Should Christians Observe Easter?

Here's what I think, and this is only my opinion:  I find the article interesting too, and it does make some important points, but most of our holidays original meanings don't come out clean in the wash.  Memorial Day is pretty much a barbeque, picnic and camping-at-the-lake weekend; Thanksgiving is a day to eat turkey and pie and watch football; and Veteran's Day is another great 3 day weekend!  Okay, not for everyone, but you know what I'm saying.  We don't visit Grandma Millie just because she makes the best fried chicken and mashed potatoes in the world, but we do certainly enjoy it while we're there!

Like all aspects of our lives, holiday traditions and Christian celebrations are a way to focus our attention, to make certain events special and memorable; and we all tend to add to, subtract from, and 'tweak' them as we go along to make things work.  Whether it is the exact date or not, and despite the fact that most of us could never translate the apostle's original text and meanings; as long as we hold the true meaning and intent in our hearts, God will know.

QUOTE - Should Christians observe Easter or any other religious holiday which came from man? Absolutely not! Faithful Christians will be content to follow God's Word and remember the death, burial and resurrection of God's Son every first day of every week.

I have to disagree with whoever this writer is from Lois' post.  He/she says that Faithful Christians will be content to follow God's Word and remember the death, burial and resurrection of God's Son every first day of every week.  I disagree.

Faithful Christians should never be content to follow God's Word.  They should be content in spreading God's Word.  Faithful Christians should remember the death, burial and resurrection of God's Son every single second of their life, not just every first day of every week.  We don't worship God just on Sundays.  We should worship the Lord with every breath we take.  Worshipping the Lord on the frist day of every week just helps bring it all together.

Now, I will get down from my pulpit.

Janet,

That'll preach.  Ditto to everything you wrote.  For a Christian, everyday should be Christmas, Easter, and a praise and worship day.  I used to get upset when I heard the phrase, "It's just another day."   Now, I know that every single day is "just another day"  that the  Lord  our God has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I like that response, emptynest.  "Just another day".  Another day to praise Jesus and shout it out to the masses that He is Risen.  Just as the song says, "I serve a RISEN savior.  He's in the world today.  I know that He is RISEN.  Whatever men may say."  Our Lord is RISEN.  There is not another religion in the world that can say that their lord has died and RISEN again.  Just Christians.  Yep, I like being different.
