   Marion, son of James Henry and Mary Catherine Ernest Speer, was born in Barton County, Missouri, October 6, 1875.  He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Flock of Severy, December 25, 1964, at the age of 89 years, being the last of eight children.

   At the age of six years, he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Howard. he started his schooling at the Fair View School and completed his education in Elk County Schools.

January 28, 1903, he was married to Margaret Louise Wilson. To this union were born six children; Paul H. Speer, Lulavon Flock of Severy; Aline Benest of Eureka; Lois O. Clark of Winfield; Millred Lawman of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Marion David, who died in infancy. His wife, Margaret, passed away July 23, 1923.

On January 7, 1932, he was married to Elnora Crismas, who passed away January 16, 1961.

Early in his life, he became a member of the Church of Christ, remaining a most faithful servant throughout his remaining life.

Besides his five children, he leaves to mourn his passing 12 grandchildren, 17, great-grandchildren and six stepchildren; Everett Crismas of Erie, Goldia Hinderliter of Waverly, Alva Crismas of Severy, Vernie Crismas of Bakersfield, Calif., Sylvia Carson of El Paso, Texas, and Darrel Crismas of Redwood City, Calif., several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, in the Spurrier-Watt chapel at Howard, Kansas Reverend Berard Smith of the Church of Christ, Topeka, officiated. Two songs were sung by a quartet composed of Rollin Stewart, Mrs. Gerald Lawrence and Mrs. Berwin King and T. R. Stewart.

Casket bearers were Nick Portereir, Kenneth Smith, Johnnie Murphy, D. H. Hastings, Wilbur Morgan, and Harold Taylor. Concleding services and burial were in the Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard.
