As I read all of these from "way back".. Do you notice that some of the ladies were referred to as" High Type of womanhood ".. and the socially upper class was given  the recognition in a pretty much a matter of fact way.
Then you have one that said that the man was a "garage man."..
From reading that  "so and so was accustomed to the finer things in life"...to  she has worked as a kitchen maid for the more properous people of the community.

No one seemed to have any problem with "calling a spade a spade " back in the old days...Although I imagine that plenty of feelings were hurt at times.

We are what we are.. but everyone seems to take offense in everything that is said these days. Have to be so very careful to be "politically correct " in everything that is said.

I'm a simple country redneck. ( some say that as if it is a bad thing   ;) ) Pretty poor in the financial areas of life, I guess by most anyone's standards... but richer than all the kings in the world where love and family and roots are concerned.

There are lots of things I could say, but someone would be more than likely to take it the wrong way, but in plain English, I say let's forget about this "political correctness!"  I was raised as a "country hick" and I'm proud of it.  When I grew up, if something was said that wasn't to your liking, you let it roll of your back, forgot about it and went on with life.  But anymore, it seems like society can pick at every little thing, and make mountains out of mole hills.  The way I figure is, if people can be so easily offended at any little thing, they've got a "problem!"  Now.....I wonder how many people got ticked off or offended at that!  To them I say "Cowboy Up!" or Get Over It!"

Life is too short to be holding or carrying grudges.  Live life to the fullest, be forgiving, and love much, and you will be amazed at the results!  (It is also easier on the blood pressure. :laugh:)

Yes, Teresa, I get a "kick" out of the terms that are used in reading the old newspapers.  Sometimes things have a much different meaning back then, than what they do today.  And I often think that life (on the whole) was much simpler back then.

 :laugh:  Let's start a movement!  I'm so over this politically correct BS. Calling a Spade a Spade was a concept that I grew up with as well.  When I first started reading the old papers, I was shocked at some of the things they said and discussed in print.  I was also delighted to read it. There was a lot of innuendo, (if I misspelled this sorry, I'm to lazy to look it up), about personal things in those columns.  I notice Grandad's columns were not politcally correct either.  Here's to "telling it like it is".

I think that you two "ladies" have said it all.  You have said everything that I would have said.  Well, maybe not, but I'm trying to be nice.   :-* :-*

Janet, Are you telling me that I wasn't nice?  :o :o  I think I'd probably fall over in a dead faint if someone told me that I was nice.   ???  It is never my intention of offending anyone, but if that is how they want to take it, that's up to them.  The people that make mountains out of molehills must not have much to occupy their time.

The late Country comedian Jerry Clower has said something to this effect.......the people that talk and think above others, are educated above their intelligence.  :laugh:

I believe I've said enough. ::)

Janet Harrington

No, Lois, I did not say you weren't nice.  I was just harrassing you and Ms. T.  I really thought you both said it just the way I would have.

And Janet- seriously I know you didn't say that!  I just happen to be "full-of-it" today, so dig out the old shovel!!  :laugh: :laugh:
