Joyce Karryn Giesy passed away on October 5, 2023 in Katy, Texas. She went to walk with the Lord and join the love of her life, Larry Giesy.   She was born July 20, 1944, the daughter of John Edgar "Ed" and Alice Elizabeth (Jones) Goodnight.

Joyce grew up in Elk County, Kansas and attended school in Howard, Kansas, graduating from Howard High School in 1962.  She married her love, Larry, in 1968 near her childhood home.  After moving to Houston, Texas, the marriage was blessed with a son and a daughter. She was always a joyous person, befitting her name.  Without fail and no matter the situation, Joyce was always upbeat and cheerful, singing happy songs to which she commonly added her own words and harmonies.  She was a lifelong bridge player and gardener with a beautiful yard comprised of fruits, vegetables, and rose bushes.  Throughout her life, Joyce found her greatest joy from bringing happiness and smiles to her family and friends.

Joyce loved spending time with her family and taking trips throughout the United States, but returning to Kansas to visit family was always her favorite travel destination.  Memories of these trips will be cherished by her family forever.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Betty Goodnight; her daughter, DeAnne Giesy; her son, David (Lindsay) Giesy; two granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents, Ed and Alice Goodnight; her sister, Darline Dameron; and her brother Jack Goodnight.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery near Moline, Kansas.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funerall Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
