Larry Wayne Light, age 72, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on March 13, 2023 at his home.  He was born August 3, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas to Joseph and Bertha (Persinger) Light.

Larry grew up alongside two sisters in Howard, Kansas, attending and graduating from Howard High School in the Class of 1968.  He then went on to attend Butler County Community College.  On Augujst 24, 1969, Larry married Crystal Downing.  Together they raised their two sons, Terry and Patrick, and had spent nearly 54 wonderful years together.

Larry wore many hats throughout his life, from law enforcement to fireman to working in the oil business and spending 10 years serving his country in the El Dorado unit of the Kansas Army Reserves.  He was active in the Boy Scouts while his sons were growing up and loved taking them camping and  traveling all over the country as a family. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed playing golf, working with wood in his shop making things, and collecting anything eagles, Budweiser, Texaco, or anything oil related.

Larry was a very active Mason and Shriner and was a dual member between Howard and El Dorado.  He was a member of the Shriners Antique Auto, the Bluestem Antique and Vintage Auto Club, and was very involved with doing things for the kids through the Shriners.  He loved to take his grandkids to the donut shop in the mornings, and sometimes the donuts would magically already be there when they woke up.  He was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandpa.  He will be dearly missed by all his family and all those that knew him.

Larry is survived by his wife, Crystal; two sons, Terry (Barbara) Light of Hawthorne, California and Patrick (Julie) Light of El Dorado, Kansas; four grandchildren, Daniela, Michael, Alia, and Emjay; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Eureka, Kasnas and Marlyn (Tom) Long of Independence, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and other loved ones.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bertha Light of Howard, Kansas and his brother-in-law, Jim Smith of Eureka, Kansas.

Funeral services for Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  The family will receive friends at visitation for one hour prior to service time.  Interment will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kasnas.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
