Ronald Dean Allison, age 84, of Mineola, Texas and formerly of Grenola, Kansas, passed away September 17, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.  He was born on October 30, 1934 in Woodward, Oklahoma, the son of Francis Rex "Curley" and Velma Ellen Allison.

The Allison family moved from Oklahoma to Kansas when Ronald was five years old.  In his early years, he began working with his dad and brothers managing a ranch in South Central Kansas, and that experience prepared him for a lifelong career in ranching.

On October 31, 1954, Ronald married Mary Alice Burdett at the Grenola Christian Church in Grenola, Kansas.  Together they had four children, Debra, Sarah, Vance, and Brian.  Ron was a member of the Grenola Christian Church for over 60 years and served as an elder for 52 years before moving to Mineola, Texas in 2018.  He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and raised and trained registered quarter horses for many years.  He competed in numerous cutting horse competitions, bringing home a number of trophies.  He enjoyed riding his horses, working cattle with area ranchers, and teaching adult Bible study class on Sunday mornings.  He was an avid reader of history and western literature and had many stories to share of his life as a cowboy.  "He will be greatly missed by his family, but our loss is his victory."

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Alice Allison of the home in Mineola, Texas; daughters, Debra (Don) Clemons of Mineola, Texas and Sarah (Jim) Leftwich of Derby, Kansas; sons, Vance (Nancy) Allison of Columbia, Missouri and Brian Allison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters, Rita (Gary) Baker of Rose Hill, Kansas and Verna Brooks of Sedan, Kansas; brothers, Max Allison (Delcia) of Winfield, Kansas and Clifford (Karen) Allison of Yoder, Wyoming; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Stegleman and her husband, Elvin;  sister-in-law, Juvene Allison; and brother-in-law, Bill Brooks.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Funeral service will be held Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Grenola Christian Church.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  The family suggests that memorials be made to the Grenola Christian Church or Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.  Donations may be lefti with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
