Glenn Everett Crowell, age 101, of Independence, Kansas, passed away on November 13, 2018 in Topeka, Kansas.  He was born on August 30, 1917 in Humboldt, South Dakota, the son of Bruce H. and Oma (Flesher)( Crowell.

Glenn was one of ten children, one being his twin sister, Ruth, who all preceded him in death.  In June 1937, he married Ava Elsie (Schwatkin) in Independence, Kansas, and they celebrated 72 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 17, 2009.  Glenn was a proud member of the United States Navy from 1945-1946, serving in World War II.

Glenn was a hard worker who never took vacations and was a loving dad.  As a young child, he attended the Longton Baptist Church in Longton, Kansas and sang in the church choir.  He developed a love for baseball at a young age and enjoyed the sport until he was 40, often playing the role of team pitcher.  He worked as a supervisor for Elk County for over 30 years before retiring.  In the spare time he had, he liked to fish, hunt, and water ski.  He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Glenn is survived by his children, Floyd Crowell and wife, Esther of Leawood, Kansas and Olin Crowell and wife, Julie of Wellsville, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas.  Countryside Funeral Home of Fredonia, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
