Bruce D. Zimmerman, age 81, of Howard, Kansas, passed away October 1, 2018 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  He was born on November 29, 1936 in Wellington, Kansas to Paul Zimmerman and Fanchon (Price) Zimmerman.

Bruce attended a few country schools before graduating from Wellington High School in Wellington, Kansas.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served from January 24, 1955 to October 24, 1958 when he was honorably discharged.  He was part of the decommissioning of the USS Kenneth Whiting during his time in the Navy.

On February 20, 1959, he married Marilyn Jones in Conway Springs, Kansas,.  They made their home in several placed throughout their married life, spending several years in Sedan and Chautauqua County and Elk County.

Bruce worked as a farmer and rancher and later worked for USPS as a mail carrier until his retirement.  He loved horses and antiques.  He and his wife owned an antique store for several years.  He also like to drink coffee at the coffee shop with his friends.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Marilyn Zimmerman of Sedan, Kansas; two sons, Steve Zimmerman and wife, Kathy of Sedan, Kansas and Brad Zimmerman and wife, Ronda of Ringwood, Oklahoma; one daughter, Nancy Baker and husband, Troy of Stanton, Texas; one sister, Sandy Mopitt; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riley Cemetery east of Sedan, Kansas with Hospice Chaplain Keith Springer officiating.  The United States Navy will perform military honor rites.  Family and friends may call on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6;00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dickens Family Funeral Hpme , 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas.  The family has suggested memorials to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and those may be sent to the Dickens Family Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
