Robert Lee Conklin, age 58, of Grenola, Kansas, died January 1, 2018 at his home.  He was born on August 26, 1959 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Roy William and Dixie Ann (Newman) Conklin.

Robert was a 1977 graduate of Burden High School in Burden, Kansas.  He had worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas as a sheet metal mechanic until his retirement.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved watching football.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and for the past couple of years, building his collections of unique items while doing scrapping.  Robert was quick-witted, a history buff, and enjoyed having a good time with family and friends.  He had a special place in his heart for his pets, but most of all he loved his family and children.

Survivors include his companion, Susan Bannister of the home; his mother, Dixie Conklin of Grenola, Kansas; his sons, Brandon Conklin and wife, Krystal of Arkansas City, Kansas, Beau Conklin and wife, Gemma of Oxford, Kansas, and Corey Conklin and wife, Rachel of Kansas City, Kansas; 9 grandchildren; 3 siblings, Alan Conklin and wife, Brenda of Wellington, Kansas, Karen Stong and husband, K.R. of Elk City, Kansas, and Debra Phillips of Coffeyville, Kansas; and extended family, Derek, Josh, and Jessica Norris and Lane, Shelby, and Kylie Bannister.  Robert was preceded in death by his father, Roy Conklin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Cremation will follow.  The family will be hosting a meet-and-greet at the Grenola Senior Center in Grenola, Kansas starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 where you can also stay and watch the Chiefs play.  Memorials have been suggested to either the Grenola Museum or the Grenola Senior Center and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
