Florence E. Lampson was born on February 10, 1929 to Cecil P. and Lela L. James.  She passed away on October 30, 2017 at LakePoint Nursing Center in Augusta, Kansas.

Florence grew up in rural Keokuk County, Iowa.  After completing high school, she attended Parson College in Fairfield, Iowa where she received her teaching certificate.  She taught in one-rom schools throughout the area.  In 1957, she was united in marriage to Richard Lee Lampson, a young man from Kansas who her father met at work and brought home to dinner.  They were married for 47 years until he preceded her in death in 2004.  They started their family in Iowa with two daughters and later returned to Moline, Kansas where their family continued to grow adding two more daughters and a son. 

Florence was a lifelong learner and teacher.  She received her Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in 1970 and Master's Degree from Emporia State College in Emporia, Kansas in 1975.  She was an educator at U.S.D. #282 for 47 years.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Lisa Venable (Mark), Dana McCann (Robert), Kelly Winter (Larry), and Tracy Adams (Mark); her son, Lee Richard Lampson (Karen); thirteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Vinton James; her sister, Louise Coon; and her husband, Richard Lampson.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., also at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Spencer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Moline City Cemetery in Moline, Kansas.  Memorials have been suggested to the West Elk Elementary Library and may be left with or sent to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 who have been entrusted with arrangements.

I can't imagine Moline without Florence Lampson.  It hurts my heart to know that the grand old dame has passed into Elk County legend.  Prayers going up for her family during this sad time.
