Myrtle Augusta Sprague, the youngest daughter of C. Dale and Maria Sprague was born near Elk Falls January 1, 1908 and departed this life August 12, 1933 in the Moline hospital, having been hurt in an automobile accident.  She had been in the Newton hospital at Winfield, Kansas, for the past two years, training to be a nurse and was spending a three weeks vacation at the home of her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown of Elk Falls.  She was educated in the schools of Elk Falls, graduating from high school with the class of 1926.  She was employed several years in the Elk Falls telephone exchange, where she gave very satisfactory service.

She decided upon a life's work as a nurse, one of the noblest professions open to womanhood.  Myrtle was an exceptionally fine woman, and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew her.  She attended the Christian Sunday school many years, and only a week ago she and her cousin were present in the young people's class.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, and a true friend.  It is sad that such a promising young life should be snuffed out and the hopes of those who knew and loved her should be shattered by death, for she gave promise of a long happy useful life in her chosen profession and in her devotion to her loved ones.  The memory of her acts of kindness and words of sympathy will always be treasured.

She leaves to mourn her untimely departure an aged grandmother, her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown, two sisters, Mrs. Dora Harlan and Mrs. Ola Finley, two half brothers, James and Raymond Brown, several aunts and uncles, three nieces and a nephew and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Elk Falls Christian church, Sunday, August 13th, at 2:30 p.m., Newton Hill giving a brief address.  Music was furnished by Mesdames Beulah Ransom and Grace Morton with Lois Burnett at the piano.  There were many beautiful floral tributes.  The active pall bearers were Francis Maxwell, Roy Olsen, Paul Morton, Roy Henderson, Ted Frauner, and Lester Wicker.  Honorary pall bearers were seven nurses from Newton hospital at Winfield.  Burial was in the family lot in Elk Falls cemetery.
