Glenn A. Cookson, age 83, of WaKeeney, Kansas and formerly of Howard, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.  He was born January 2, 1930 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Irma (Gohs) Cookson.

After graduating high school, Glenn served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  Prior to living in WaKenney, Kansas for over ten years, he spent 50 years in Howard, Kansas.  On October 5, 1956, Glenn was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Dotterer.  They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together until Darlene'e death on April 20, 2012.

Glenn  was a heating and air conditioning technician as well as an electrician.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM #148 and the American Legion Moore Post #197 of WaKeeney.  He was a very musical person as he loved playing the banjo and the harmonica.  He played in a group that went around to various nursing homes to entertain the residents.  Glenn enjoyed farming and ranching in his youth and later was a great gardener.  He was always known for his talent of telling a great story.

Glenn will be missed by two daughters, Debra (Everett) Carrell of Pittsburg, Kansas and Irene (Max) Dirks of WaKeeney, Kansas; grandchildren, Katherine, Dallas, Christopher, Danny, Ivan, Natasha, and Gary Carrell and Lt. Toby (Holly) and Taylor Dirks; and great-grandchild, Julian Carrell.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene; and two brothers, Joseph Robert "Bob" Cookson and Eugene Cookson.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, Kansas.  Private inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas.  There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Masonic Scholarship Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.  Arrangements are being handled by Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th Street, WaKeeney, Kansas 67672.

Sorry to hear that Glen had passed away he was good person. I had the opportunity to work with Glen at Garisons, he bent the tubing and welded Pony Carts. He was always smiling and made work fun. He was so proud of Darlene. Our prayers to the family.
