HOWARD-- Helen Mae Montgomery, 72, a former resident of Howard, died Saturday at the Riverview Nursing Home in Oxford.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Bumstead. pastor of the United Methodist Church, with burial in the Grace Lawn cemetery at Howard.

A memorial had been established with the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Montgomery was born Aug. 13, 1916, at Arborville, Nebraska.

On October 16, 1919, she came to live with Leroy and Blanche (Hendricks) Hutton, and was raised in the Bennet, NE community, graduating from high school there in 1934.

She attended National Business Institute in Lincoln, NE for one year before moving to Washington, D. C., in 1941, where she worked for the government during World War II.

On January 9, 1944, at Howard, she married Richard L. Montgomery.  He died in 1976.

Mrs. Montgomery was a member of the Howard United Methodist church, and a member  of the American Legion auxiliary of Carter-Rader Post 149 of Howard.

Survivors include two sons, Gary of Del Rio, Texas and Dale of Howard; three daughters, Ruth Stewart of Tyro, Mary Goldwater of Wichita, and Lois Morgan of Winfield; one brother, Ralph House of Oroville, Wash.; and two sisters, Blanche Clark of San Bernadino, CA and Ruth Pritchard of Ravenna, NE.  Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

Oh, Lois, I like that.  It brings back memories of seeing your mother.  Of course, back then we knew her as Dale's mother.
