John Theophilus Morgan, son of William H. and Mary E. Morgan, was born in Hocking county, Ohio, December 10, 1867.  When a boy he came with his parents to Labette and later to Elk County, Kansas, where he grew to manhood in the Antioch community and lived the remainder of his life.

On February 27, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Walter, also of thie community, and to this union was born one son, Wilbert.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lulu Morgan; his son, Wilbert Morgan, who resides in this community; and three grandsons.  He is also survived by  one brother, Dave Morgan, of Howard, Kansas, and a number of other relatives and many, many friends.  Two brothers, Bert and Fred, and one sister, Mary E. Small, preceeded him in death.

When he was a boy he was converted at the old Antioch school house in a revival meeting conducted by Bro. Wm. Simons, who later officiated at his marriage in the home of his father and mother, William and Mary Morgan.  On July 4, 1886, as a young man of 19, he and his young bride were received into the membership of the Antioch church by Bro. John MacLean.

Mr. Morgan passed away early Thursday morning, July 27th, in the same home where he and Mrs. Morgan  had lived for fifty-five years.  The last words which his wife heard him speak were the words of the 28th chapter of the Acts of the Apostles from the Holy Scriptures which he read the morning he was taken ill.

Funeral services were held at the Antionch church at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 30th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. P.L. Mitchell.  The Antioch choir sang favorite hymns.  The casket bearers were Ray Dellinger, Donald Sexton, Harry Cummins, Will Heater, Ralph Cummins, and Louis Deeds.  Burial was in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard.
