Sharon Lea French, 78, a longtime resident of Wilson County, Kansas, most recently of Fredonia, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at her son's home in League City, Texas.  She was born July 23, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Albert F. and Hazel E. (Peace) Hooper.

Sharon was a graduate of North High School in Wichita.  She spent most of her adult life as a wife, mother, and homemaker.  She also worked at Johnson's General Store in Fredonia, Peter Pan Ice Cream Store in Wichita, and at the Wichita Juvenile Detention Center.  On December 26, 1955, Sharon was united in marriage to Henry Eugene French.  He preceded her in death May 22, 1996.  Sharon was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Fredonia.  She was a master quilter and made sure that all of her children and grandchildren received one of her handmade quilts.  

Sharon's survivors include one son, Kenneth French of League City, Texas; three daughters, Tina King of Fall River, Kansas, Lori French of Fredonia, Kansas, and Jill Malone of Fall River, Kansas; four brothers, Kenneth Hooper of Conroe, Texas, James Hooper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Richard Hooper of Butler, Missouri, and Thomas Hooper of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Kathy Diehl-Shores of Bedford, Texas; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Her parents, Albert and Hazel Hooper, and one brother, Robert Louis Hooper, also preceded Sharon in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2012 at Timmons Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Street, Fredonia, Kansas, with Pastor Kyle Clutter of the First Southern Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Weakley Cemetery near New Albany, Kansas.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Timmons Funeral Home.
