Elnora Jean Carter, 74, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.  She was born on November 1, 1937 in Longton, Kansas to Myrl Lewis and Agatha Laura (Biter) Lewis.

She attended school in Longton, Kansas until the eighth grade.  On July 3, 1955, she married Albert R. Fogerty.  They lived in the Sedan area most of their lives.  She was preceded in death by her husband on September 27, 1983.  After her husband's death, she worked in the housekeeping department at the Pleasant Valley Manor for ten years.  On February 22, 1991, she married Oscar Carter, and they made their home in Sedan until his passing on October 24, 1997.

She is survived by one son, Pastor Kevin Fogerty of Chautauqua, Kansas; three daughters, Lorrie and husband, David Sprague of Caney, Kansas, Marjorie Smart of Herington, Kansas, and Cheryl Tripp of Newport, North Carolina; two brothers, Roland Lewis of Nixa, Missouri and Leland Lewis of Independence, Kansas; two stepchildren, Orville "Chunk" Carter and Virginia Bean, both of Peru, Kansas; four grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Allen Fogerty; her husbands, Albert Fogerty and Oscar Carter; her parents; and one brother, Richard Lewis.

Church services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas with Reverends Dennis Spire and Kevin Fogerty officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas.  Family and friends may call Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
