The tenets of imperial Christianity include things like blind nationalism, belief in American exceptionalism, willful ignorance of U.S. foreign policy, childish devotion to the military, cheerleading for the Republican Party, acceptance of the U.S. empire, and support for a perpetual war on terror – all, of course, with a Christian twist for effect. In other words, the views of Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry.

I have some simple yet pointed questions for Christians who subscribe to, or can be characterized by, the above things:

No need in me reading any further than this . Wonder if the same person feels the same about the Confederate soldiers.

Am I a Imperial Christian? No, I'm a Eastern Orthodox Christian. I hope I answered your question.

Jar, "THIS same person" thinks statements like that writer made are meant to start conflict and cause trouble. Childish devotion indeed! >:(

Don't know how the author feels about the Confederates except he probably thinks they stood with the founding fathers and he might even think the Confederate military was the last American military to fight for the Constitution.

Yesterday, a friend of mine who was career U.S. military commented about the article in an email.  I liked how he said it.  He gave me permission to post his comments as follows below:

Some of the questions in this article are loaded.

If I have to answer with a simple yes or no I think I can answer no on all.  But, and there is a big but, it isn't that simple.  For instance:  Does the  US enjoy a special relationship to God.........................not now, may be at one time, but certainly not now.

Does the Lord approve of everything the government of Israel does?  No, but I think the Bible clearly gives Israel a special place in God's heart even though they are out of the will of God today.
And I think it is in the best interest of the US to be a friend of Israel.

Does the NT command churches to hold special military appreciation days?  No, but the NT does not command churches to install air conditioning, but I think it is good, and not an insult to God to do so.

I probably lean a little more toward saying no on some of these questions than some of my brethren.  I never wear a US Flag label pin anymore, but I don't have a problem with anyone who does.  I always wear an SCV (confederate) pin.   And I don't have a problem with patriotism, in it's right place and order.  And I certainly don't have a problem using a radar detector to prevent collection of more gov't revenue.
