Here I'm whistlin' "Dixie," because college administrators are more interested in numbers of students, which equal more money.

Unfortunately, a lot of what he says is true.
Many of the big schools now see the student as a customer rather than a student. The fact that the age of majority changed to 18 years back didn't help things either.
A good liberal arts education including art history, music history and literature, economics , psychology and philosophy is what a lot of parents want for their kids no matter what they want to do for a living later.  Of course there are many careers that still demand a college education before one can get a foot in the door.
Now, getting accepted easily depends on the college. I was an automatic acceptance for KU because both my parents went there. Getting to stay there would have been my job.  As always, some majors don't have a huge hiring pool. History and English majors have always had a hard time finding work in their area. Now it's even harder. The costs of the education have gotten 'way out of proportion to the life time earnings of the average student.
Student loans have gone through the roof and now they are hard to get at any cost. Can you imagine starting life with a $100,000.college loan hanging over your head?
As you know I'm a huge believer of post high school education, but it certainly doesn't have to be traditional college. Whatever is a good match for the student suits me just fine.
