James Doggett, who was recovering from an attack of pneumonia, was suddenly stricken with meningitis Thursday night and died Friday night without regaining consciousness.  His father, mother, brothers, sister and her family came Friday and all were at his bedside when he passed away.

James L. Doggett was born near Bethel, Bath County, Kentucky, on the 28th day of November, 1880, and came to Kansas with his parents when but three years old, and has since resided in this state.  Early in the '90's the family moved to Elk county and in 1902 he was married to Miss Mary Nix at Howard.  Eight years ago they came back to Kingman County.

Two children came to bless their married life; a girl now seven years old and a little boy of only two.  These with his faithful wife his father, mother, three brothers, one sister and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of one they held most dear.

Mr. Doggett was an upright young man, an honest, trustworthy citizen, a hard working farmer, who by good management and the help of a noble wife had already paid for a good farm and its equipments.  He also carried a $1,000 Woodman policy.  He was 29 years 8 months and 29 days old.  His death occurred August 26, 1910.

His funeral sermon, preached at the home by Rev. J. R. Millsap, was instructing, touching comforting and beautiful.  The text was from Psalms 17:15.  The Woodmen lodge took charge of the body and a long procession followed to the final resting place in the Murdock cemetery.  (Kingman Journal)
