Johnnie W. Miller, age 84, a resident of Howard, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at the home of his son, John Miller Jr. in Howard.  He was born on February 19, 1927 in Cloverdale, Kansas, the son of Oscar and Sara (Dorsey) Miller.

Johnnie served in the United States Army in both World War II and the Korean War.  On December 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to LaRita Mae Tucker at the Baptist Church in Moline, Kansas.  Johnnie worked for Beechcraft in Wichita, Kansas as an inspector for many years.  He was a member of American Legion Carter-Rader Post #149 in Howard.  Johnnie was an avid gardener, and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, John Miller Jr. of Howard, Kansas; two brothers, Dwayne Miller of Sterling, Kansas and Charlie Miller of Winfield, Kansas; three sisters, Rosie Gray of Howard, Kansas, Lodean Lauffer of Winfield, Kansas, and Ellen Curtis of Leesburg, Florida; five grandchildren, Jeremy Miller, Amber Miller, Ashley Miller, Brandi Jones, and Cassandra Jones; and seven great-grandchildren.  Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaRita Miller on February 2, 2010; and one sister, Lola King.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Robin Haines officiating.  Interment with military honors conducted by Carter-Rader Post will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials suggested to the Carter-Rader Post and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. We are so sorry to learn that Johnnie had passed away, Johnnie has been a longtime friend and I have enjoyed some great visits with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, Waldo tell your Mother we love her and are thinking about her, and if at all possible I will I will see her at the services.
