Janet Harrington

Allen Harrington, 65, of Grenola was found dead in bed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Newbold, 1111 Lowery, Winfield, Kansas, Sunday, September 23, 1945 about 8:15 p.m.  Death was due to a blood clot which went to his heart about 7:30 p.m.

Born in Oklahoma, May 17, 1880, the son of Dick and Adaline Harrington.  His parents died when he was a small boy and he was reared by Jim Gillespie of the Cambridge community.  He lived for the most of his life around Cambridge, Moline and Grenola.

He was married to Leatha Hill November 7, 1904.  She died July 24, 1933.  He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include eight children:  Floyd Harrington of Kansas City Mo., Mrs. Ethelene Newbold of Winfield, Truman Harrington of Grenola, Mrs. Bernice Adams of Elk Falls, Beryle Harrington of Grenola, Mrs. Maxine Larson of Auberry, Calif., Milburn Harrington of Grenola, Robert Harrington of the U. S. Army, who left Sept. 22 for California to get his discharge from service; thirteen grandchildren, a brother, Levi Harrington of Burbank, Calilf., a sister, Mrs. Lillie Spurgin of Commanche, Okla; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church, Moline, with Rev. Quintin Malone saying the funeral mass.  Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Pallbearers were:  Mr. Armond Thompson, Mr. Bill Hudson and Mr. John Bacus all of Grenola and Mr. Ed Pfrehm, Mr. Bill Kill and Mr. Tom Brogan all of Moline.
