The accompanying picture is of a Republican Rally in Howard in 1908, I am sure the main topic was the push to elect William Howard Taft, Taft was elected President. What do you think these men would have said if you told them that in 100 years America would elect a Muslim, Non-Christian, Marxist/Socialist. Hard to believe how far left and down we have gone in 100 years.

Great picture Frank, I blew that up to full screen and that is probably the best closeup of the Metropolitan Hotel that I have seen.

Polk Daniels was probably in there somewhere walking around looking for interviews.

Except for the sidewalk cover, "Doug's Place" looks the same.
"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU

Waldo, I have a picture of the 1908 Democrat Rally as well, I will pull it up and post it. I have some great pictiures of the Metropolitan Hotel as well.
