Hi, I just found this great site from Genforum!  I'm hoping someone on this forum is able to help me.  I'm working on my Morris family genealogy and am a descendant of the sister of Cyrus Morris.  I've been in contact with the Deputy Stephanie O. of Elk Co, KS and the Howard library.  I'm looking for any and all info of this family.  I'm hoping for and looking for obituaries and photos especially.  Cyrus Morris died 1902 Longton, KS and is buried in Longton Cemetery.  Cyrus son, Ky (Kysmere or Kisamore) Morris died 1939 & wife, Lucy, died 1952 both buried in Elk Falls Cemetery.  Their children were Edith, Ethel, Pearl, & Ola.  Cyrus son, Andrew H Morris died 1930 Longton, KS & wife, Harriett E (Quillen) Morris died 23 Feb 1900 Longton, KS & both buried Longton Cemetery.  Their children are Alvin, Arthur, Edith, James W, Blanche L, Gladys Melissa, & Clarence.  Cyrus son, James P Morris died 1954 Longton, KS & wife Margaret Alma (Thompson) Morris died 23 May 1961 & both buried Longton Cemetery. No known children.  Also, looking for the obit for A. H. Morris who died 1 April 1902 Longton, KS.  I'm hoping to learn more about Cyrus Morris life.  My biggest brick wall is who is the mother of Cyrus Morris!  Hoping for some big help from all of you who know this area so well.  Thank you ahead of time!

KSgirl, that is my wife's family, Ethel was my wife's grandmother. I knew, Ethel, Pearl and Ola. Pearl was an absolute Hoot, she used to go in the truck with me and ride along while my wife and I hauled hay. My wife is not home right now but she will contact you when she gets here, I am sure.

KSGirl, my Mother-in-law who is the Daughter of Ethel, is 92 and still very sharp, I am sure that between her and my wife they can help you.

Frank,

Don't know if there is any connection but "Morris" is mentioned on pages 96, 97, 104, 159, 167, 191, and 242.  One of those pages has a reference to a Morris movie theater in Moline.
"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU

Hi, I'm back and can't wait to hear more.   Are the Morris family who owned the Movie Theater related to Cyrus Morris and family?  I don't recognize those names from my research.
Did you ever meet Ky and Lucy the parents of Ethel, Pearl and Ola?
W.Gray I will check those pages that you mentioned, thank you.
My name is Donna by the way

No, the Morris that had the theater were not related. Myrna is out again she will be back shortly.

I didn't think they were related.  I will await Myrna's words of wisdom about the family.
