Albert Richard Palmer, 85, of Longton, Kansas, passed away on January 6, 2016.  He was born on February 3, 1930 near Lindsay, Oklahoma to Athel Palmer and Lessie (King) Palmer.  He was the seventh of nine children.

Richard worked in the oil fields ever since he left home at a young age.  He loved the smell and sounds of the oil pumping so much that he eventually owned his own business of rigs that drilled many wells in Kansas.  Richard also loved to train and trade horses for his daughters to ride.

Richard married Velma Jane Willits in Ulysses, Kansas on August 21, 1949.  Three daughters were born to that union.  After Velma's passing in 1998, Richard married Naida Becker on February 6, 2000 at Longton, Kansas.  He was a member of the Longton Christian Church where he served as a deacon until his failing health.

Richard is survived by his wife, Naida, of the home; three daughters, Zona Woodard and husband, Michael of Warsaw, Missouri, Teresa Wallweber and husband, Tim of Wichita, Kansas, and Jynell Mccollam and husband, Greg of Independence, Kansas; one sister, Ena Jean Coppess of Duncan, Oklahoma; and three step-daughters and husbands, Diana and Charlie Stroble of Longton, Kansas, Deb and Brad Ott of Fairview, Oklahoma, and Barbie and Tony Small of Hopkins, Minnesota.  He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and Naida's 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on January 9, 2016 at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas.  The family requests memorials to Home Town Health Care Hospice, and memorials may be left with Webb-Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301, which is in charge of arrangements.
