Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little 5 year old girl and some construction workers that makes you believe that we CAN make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time...

A young family moved into a house, next door to a vacant lot. One day a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot. The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers. Eventually the construction crew, all of them gems-in-the-rough, more or less adopted her as a kind of project mascot.

They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.

At the end of the first week they even presented her with a pay envelope containing a couple of dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who said all the appropriate words of admiration and suggested that they take the two dollar "pay" she had received to the bank the next day to start a savings account.

When they got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own paycheck at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with the crew building the house next door to us."

My goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?"

The little girl replied, "I will if those a**holes at Home Depot ever deliver the #@!!@#ing Dry Wall..."

Kind of brings a tear to the eye........

Fluffy Bunny Rabbit

After a long day at the office, Chris came home one day to find his dog with the neighbor's pet rabbit in his mouth. The rabbit was obviously dead.

Chris panicked!

"If my neighbors find out my dog killed their bunny, they'll hate me forever," he thought.

So he took the dirty, chewed up rabbit into the house, gave it a bath and blow-dried its fur.

Chris knew his neighbors kept their backdoor open during the summer, so he sneaked inside and put the bunny back into the cage, hoping his neighbors would think it died of natural causes.

A couple of days later Chris and his neighbor saw each other outside.

"Did you hear that Fluffy died?" the neighbor asked.

"Oh. Uhmm... Sorry to hear that. What happened?" Chris mumbled.

The neighbor replied, "We just found him dead in his cage one day. But the strange thing is that the day after we buried him, we went out to dinner and someone must have dug him up, gave him a bath and put him back into the cage!"

In honor of St. Patrick's day.....

DWI (Driving While Irish)

Paddy, the ubiquitous Irishman, is driving home after downing a few at the local pub. He turns a corner and much to his horror he sees a tree in the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid it and almost too late realizes that there is yet another tree directly in his path. He swerves again and discovers that his drive home has turned into a slalom course, causing him to veer from side to side to avoid all the trees.

Moments later he hears the sound of a police siren and brings his car to a stop. The officer approaches Paddy's car and asks him what on earth he was doing. Paddy tells his story of the trees in the road when the officer stops him mid sentence and says, "Fer crissakes, Paddy, that's yer air freshener!"

Hi Teresa,

I have a couple of questions about making a sourdough starter

1. Should the mixture be kept in the refrigerator even when you are first making the starter?
2. Should it be bubbling or anything? Mine isn't so I am hoping I didn't kill the yeast.
3. Today is the third day, but it doesn't smell sour. Should it?

I may have to resort to buying a starter. This site seems to have some really good ones including a San Francisco sourdough and Italian starter. http://www.sourdo.com/culture.htm

Teresa,

You said that "Everybody has to cross the river", but do they have to stay over there? Can they cross it once then come back and it counts as "They have crossed the river"?

Hi Teresa,

I received your package yesterday. Thank you very much. I am going to try to make the starter this weekend.

I was also able to find the yeast online at Homebrew Heaven. https://secure3.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=hombre&BusType=BtoC&Count1=58727443&Count2=975867867&ProductID=577&Target=products.asp     (Select DISTILLATION SUPPLIES & ALCOHOL FLAVORINGS. Then pull down the Current Category found at the top of the page and select Wine Yeast.)

Thanks again.

Teresa, when I think of you and a dog, I remember the story your sister told me that grossed me out and made me dry heave for years (every time I used to think of it)!

When Sherri and I were probably less than ten years old, she told me that you once had this dog that you adored. You even used to kiss it until one time you kissed it and then started chewing something crunchy. She said it was the dog's eye hockey.

Was this true? Or did Sherri tell me this just because it was funny to see a person dry heave?

Recipe's & Home Remedy's / Re: New Board

I laughed all day yesterday about Jo's Ass Jam story, but I do have a remedy for fever blisters. Have Danny take a Lysine tablet (1,000 mg) daily and he won't get them. But if he's like most people and forgets to take the tablets, have him start popping 1,000 mg of Lysine three times a day when he feels the tingle in his lips that signals the onset of a breakout. The blister will be less severe.

Lysine can be bought at some grocery stores, all health food stores and, of course, online. Here is a link for them at amazon.
