Do you know anyone in the Howard area who I could hire to till a garden spot? I have an established spot and also would like to have a new small place tilled. Thank you for any leads.

I would like to comment on the KAKE interviews done about the water in the City of Howard.

Everytime KAKE TV 10 and/or any TV station for that matter is called to Howard/Elk County, it seems to be for some negative reason.  The light that shines forth on us for others to hear always has some "bad" connotation.  So, Monday, it was the brown, stinky water and how it leaves a bad taste in peoples' mouths and stains what was once clean.      Well, that's what I thought their TV clip did for us also.  It stunk! It left a bad taste in my mouth, not to mention others in the state who once again had to hear that maybe Elk County is not so cool a place to call home.  It stained us once again.

I know they have the right to come here after something newsworthy, just as we, as individuals and businesses have the right to refuse to grant an interview.  But just for once, could we have something positive shown about us?  Maybe instead of Chris Frank proudly telling about the brown water coming into the toilet, or practically gagging as he sipped a glass of Howard water, he should have ended with a postive note.  On Monday, there WAS some place that had beautifully clean water with people in it enjoying themselves right here in Howard.  And I'm not bragging because it was the pool's water, which took a big hit with the bad city water also---- but just for once---could we have offered to shed some positive light on our community amist all the "stinky stuff"?

And did KAKE offer to come back once the problem is "cleared up" to report on the progress made?

(Just had to air my "dirty laundry")

Heather,
I have learned as have you that the fatality was between the Elk County and Montgomery county line. We learned this information from the Kansas Highway Patrol Online Crash site.  The fatality was a 36 year old man from Elk Falls.

The Coffee Shop / Re: WEATHER!!!!!

I want to go out and walk and play inside my fenced in yard, too, Laura. It's not what I had planned for my spring break, but then I guess I don't get to say how the weather is going to be.  I really wanted to rake and burn and trim and clean-up after this long winter since I have some limited time on my hands. Oh well, my floors inside are a little bit cleaner, my cupboards now a little bit more organized, and 3 written assignments completely completed. If it continues to rain, I may even paint my bedroom---Lord knows it needs something new and exciting!!! Maybe I'll see you and Cody when I am out walking in the rain.........but pray for sunshine!!!

Religious/Spiritual / Re: Prayers needed in Texas

Ms Bear,
I pray that God's direction be with your mother and with you. I am reminded of this scripture:
"Trust  in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknoledge Him, and he shall direct your paths."    Proverbs 3:5-6

You never know what the day will bring, but the Lord does. A perfectly ordinary day may end with glory or grief, or it may end like a perfectly ordinary day usually ends.  All you can do is put your trust in the Lord, and live today and tomorrow in the belief that the Lord knows how everything will work out---even if you have no idea.  He will show you which way to turn. He will guide and protect your mother and you day after day after day. He has a plan and even if you don't know or understand it, just trust in Him. Blessings, peace, and grace to you and your mother.

Judy,
I do appreciate you introducing me to Bonnie at Ardis' funeral. You have always gone out of your way to say hello and do your best to support those on the Elk County forum. I know I haven't been on here lately due to time restraints, and I miss it terribly. Thank you again for coming up and saying something to me. Bonnie, it was very nice to meet you in person. It would be nice to be able to get together and talk, but I realize your time limits.   I thought Ardis' funeral tributes--especially what was said about her being a "key" to the community were very fitting.

Thank you all so much for the beautiful birthday wishes.   I have a great time turning 50.  I was out of town at a 2 day conference in Topeka, but somehow my instructor was even told about my turning 50, and soon the entire conference knew.  I can't say thank you enough for the wishes, the cards, the calls, gifts and so on.  I truly believe I have been blessed.  I thank God for each and everything in my life--cause it has helped shaped me into the person I still am becoming.  God Bless~

Religious/Spiritual / Guidance------Dancing with God
October 12, 2007, 08:45:52 PM
When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing 'dance' at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and let's the other one lead,
both bodies began to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if the two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.
When I saw the 'G': I thought of God, followed by the
'u' and 'i'.
'God', 'u' and 'i' dance.
God, you and I, dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that God's blessings
and mercies are upon you on this day and everday.
May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and guide you through each season of your life.
Amen.

Bob and the Blonde

Bob, a handsome dude, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 p.m.  He sat down next to a blonde at the bar and stared at the TV.

The 10:00 news was coming on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building threatening to jump.

The blonde looked at Bob and said,  "Do you think he'll jump?"

Bob says, "Ya know, I think he'll jump."

The blonde replied, "Yeah?  Well, I bet he won't."

Bob placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, "You're on!"

Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off the building , falling to his death.

The blonde was very upset, but willingly handed her $20 to Bob, saying, "Fair's fair.  Here's your money."

Bob replied, "I can't take your money. I saw this earlier on the 5 PM news and I knew he was going to jump."

The blonde replied, "I did, too, but I didn't think he'd do it again."

Bob took the money.
