Yes, there are still a few very old places here. My little area, where the Piedmont rises up from the old flood plain, was carved from cornfields at the edge of Newark. My house was built in 1962, hardly an antique.
My eyes are really getting old! I saw your comment about Cruz and read it ..."Why castrate Cruz?'' . I totally agree, he couldn't have done a thing to make things better, except I guess that it would have made Texans feel they mattered if he stayed and suffered with them.  Now I really feel sorry for those poor people who were taking advantage of the cheap prices, but hadn't read the fine print! WOW!
Our snow is just about gone now and I have snow drops, crocus and early daffodiles  blooming.  We can have huge snows in March, but I hope it's done for the season.
That Texas  mess would have never happened here, at least not to that extent. We do have real winter, but have city back up systems, brine trucks, and snow plows. Have a good weekend.

Ah, but dogs can be treated for fleas so the little buggers aren't passed on. Ya see what Cruz tried to pull and didn't get away with? I don't care what party he is, Texas didn't like it at all. Long term politicians have two things in mind... raising money for their re elections and trying not to be primaried.   HA!

Hi again. By the way, my "Newark' is the one in little ( less than a million population) Delaware.  (yes, Joe Biden's home.) It is pronounced New Ark, for the New Ark of the Covenant, not the ''New Joisey" one (ha) which is pronounced "Newerk" from new "work," describing new construction going on long ago.
I hope you all are not having any of the problems poor Texas is having. I feel so bad for them. I have friends who recently moved to Spring Texas. I have no idea how they are fairing.
Having gotten both my shots now, in two weeks we'll start venturing out more. (still wearing masks) I got a minor reaction to my second Moderna for one day. I'm not the least upset at being expected to keep wearing a mask. Yes, the medical folks still aren't sure if we can spread it without being sick ourselves.
We had a number of our firehouse folk who were exposed and quarantined early on, several who tested positive, several who got sick, and two who died. One, at age 43, had  rather severe Covid, got better and then while out with his wife, he dropped dead at their table. He was worked on for two hours and then they called it. I'm still dealing with that as he and his family were/are very close and special friends.
The college students on campus are tested often... mandatory. The ones who live off campus in the community can't be made to do it, but it is strongly recommended. I really don't know how the campus statistics shake out. UD is very tight lipped. Many classes are still virtual except for labs.
Much of our business district is now open at half capacity, with masks, but is doing a lot of take out too. We've ordered take out, more often than usual, to help keep them going. They do delivery and also have curbside pick up.
I'll be starting some tomatoes next week. I've had it with all our ice and snow... more than usual. Bring on spring!

Hi gang. I'm back once more.
Al and I got our second Moderna shot on Feb.12, with very slight side effects the next day. In early March we should have the best immunity we can have and will start going out to stores again, still with masks though.  The UD kids came back to campus recently and brought the virus with them.Newark's infection rate is lower than it was, but spiked when they came back to town. We had another Nor'easter come through yesterday, but compared to what Texas and the nearby states are having, it was nothing. I hope you all didn't get hit too hard. Stay safe please. I feel so sorry for the people who are dealing with it all.

Wow! I got a response! I'm assuming you are well yourself and perhaps don't know anyone who has had Covid.We are full of it here. Being a college town, that has opened and closed in many forms over the last year, Newark has people coming and going from many states. One of our big problems is that transmission is much easier than the regular seasonal  flu. These new variants do worry me. As far as vaccinations, I do what my own doc wants me to do. Somewhere along the line I got old (76...HA!) and do have some health issues, so I'm cautious anyway.
I just had a muscle ache after the first Moderna shot, but many people have a rough time for one day after the second one. We'll see what happens.
Yes, I  expect to keep wearing masks and sanitizing after I, hopefully, have my own immunity built up. A far as reading articles, I do read everything that comes my way, so thank you for your connection.There is so much yet to be learned about this newish bug. It's hard to believe it's only been a year, from the scientists point of view, since this thing jumped on us.
Are we ''dumb?" It depends on the age group, I think, The young adults here are so impatient with everything. I don't know how they would have dealt with the earlier generations' problems...rationing during WWII,  with all the ration points, etc.They don't want to be inconvenienced. My own Kansas grandfather had the "Spanish' flu and survived, but other family members didn't and a few didn't get it at all. Who knows? This is a world pandemic, not just here. We just need to take it a day at a time. Have a good day.

Hi there.The east is still here, though having a hard time with Covid 19. Al and I had our  first shots and expect our second on Feb. 12. We lost a good fire fighter/ EMT friend early, before much was known about Covid. His family got it too, but survived.
We just finished up with a nasty four day Nor'easter...glad it's gone! We've been hiding out at home, as is most everyone here, going out only when absolutely necessary. Zoom has allowed us to continue our meetings and visit with friends.
As far as politics goes,I'm sick of it all,even though Joe Biden is from here and I've known him casually for more than 50 years. My husband worked with him back when he was on County Council here. The attack on the Capitol literally made me sick. I'm still an Independent  and chose to vote according to list of things that are important to me. Truth and character are on top of my list. Stay safe please. Don't let the conspiracy theorists get to you. Moon beams do not kill Covid....HA!

I just had time to catch up and I'm just shocked. I had been following her progress on facebook and thought she was doing amazingly well. I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers to all of you who Knew her. She was so nice to Al and I when we visited out there some years ago.

Hi. It's nice to hear from you both. We did have a nice Christmas and it's very unseasonaly warm here too. 60 tomorrow with rain coming in tomorrow night. Maybe we all ran out of things to say? Merry Christmas to anyone still left. The east coast is still here and Al and I are still alive. I guess I've been shunned, so I'll go back to facebook. Such a shame. I always enjoyed the good conversations here, but never cared for the bullies. I doubt I'll ever visit Kansas again. Have a good 2020.
