Don't let this be the last we hear from you.  We are always interested in other people's business.

Thanks Wilma,
Perhaps the reason John and I got along so well is that we were both small town kids. I grew up and still live in Northern Minnesota along the shore of Lake Superior. We have 3,500 people in our town and are a shipping harbor for iron ore from the mines north of here down the Great Lakes to the steel mills.
I was just sitting at the computer with a little spare time yesterday and thought why don't I do a search on John's home town. So I did, and knowing how helpful small town folks are, I thought I'de use your forum to ask about him.  I last saw him in 1975 when he and I had both just been out of the Navy for awhile. He stopped by my home here on his way out to the west coast. We lost touch after that, though I did talk to his mother once in the late 70s, she was trying to contact him as she had lost touch with him too.
Thanks again all, I do hope to see your area in person sometime next summer ;)

He lives out there with his mother, Lois.  John does general contracting specifically electrical work.  He has long grayish white hair and a beard to match.  I'm sure that John, (who talks slow), would enjoy hearing from an old military buddy.

Thanks Janet,
That sure sounds just like John!  He always talked slow and I know he even had a beard when the Navy allowed us to grow one back in 1970. We were Navy electronic technicians so that would explain his doing electrical work also.  I sure will drop them a card to get in touch. My reason for asking at this point in time is that I retired from government service and now have a little spare time to travel for once. Thought I'de drop by your area when headed west one of these days. Thanks to all for the help ;D. I look forward to a visit to Kansas soon!

Thanks Wilma, I may just drop them a post card to ask. Do you know if John would be around 56-58 years old and if he still is in the area? If so, I will get in touch with them. Thanks again.

Don't know if this forum is the best place to ask about a former military buddy, but it does deal with local families so I'll give this a try.
I served with a young man from your area. He said he came from a farm between Howard and Severy Kansas. We served together for a number of years in the US Navy. Between 1969-1971 in fact. Got to be pretty good buddies, but I lost track of him in the mid 1970s.
He would have graduated from high school around 1966-8 I think. His name was John Gray.  He grew up on a farm outside of Howard. He said he had a younger sister. I'm 55 and he was a couple years older than me. I know his parents and sister still lived in the area as far back as the late 70s. Please drop a note on here if anyone can help me with any information. I always wondered if I could get in touch with him again.
