It is with great sadness that I type this post to all my friends here in Elk County. Chuck has taken a job around the Ellsworth/Brookville area and we will be moving from Elk County mid-December. It was a difficult decision for us to make; to leave our friends and communities. Chuck has been here 6 years and I have been here 5 years and we have formed lasting friendships with many people. We have also been involved in many community projects and groups, and are saddened to leave this behind. We both see Elk County as having great potential and hope everyone involved continues to persevere and GROW this area! We will still stay in touch (and you'll still see me on the Forum often), as well as visit, too!
NO NO NO you can't go -------
I am happy that you have a new opportunity in your lives, but I really was hoping I could hold little Josie before too much longer.
Good luck - the new community is going to be blessed with your presence. Good luck and God Bless!!
Jo and Fred
I wish you all the luck in the world. Take care of that beautiful little girl and keep those pictures coming.
QuoteChuck has taken a job around the Ellsworth/Brookville area
But that's up north! ! ! It's cold there. :D
We'll miss you.
There are times and situations where a family has to make a decision that is in the best interest for them. I know it is a tough decision to make, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. You may be leaving Elk County, but Elk County will not leave you. Once you have lived in Elk County, it is in your heart and soul. There are those of us (me) who lived in Elk County in their youth and have visited on occasions. When I did visit there, it was like coming home. You and yours will always be here on this forum for us to hear about and see pictures of you and your family. Good luck in your new endeavor and God Bless.

Tobina, you and Chuck may not have lived here many years, but you both certainly have endeared yourselves to the community, and you will be deeply and sorely missed. And not just because of all your community involvement -- though your absence will be felt there as well -- but because you both are are truly kind, generous, creative young people who care very deeply about others. So we are very sorry to see you leave. At least there's the internet and the forum to keep us abreast of little Josey's milestones. Terrell and I wish you both nothing but the very best!
Best of luck to you and yours. Thank goodness for the Forum because we can still all keep in touch. I was looking forward to pitching my tent by the creek in the spring and havin' the hot breakfast with you.
Is Ellsworth in central Kansas? Have you found a place to live? Have a great move and hope the weather holds for you. Merry Christmas in your new digs. By the way, how have your dog and cats taken to little Josey? I know, I'm nosy.
I have been to Ellsworth a number of times, and it seems to me it is a great town! Good luck to you and your family on this new venture! A new family, a new life and a new year; how blessed you are! :-*
I bet Grandma is happy that you'll be closer to her. ;) :-*
How exciting to get to start over again. Change is always a tad scary but so many new experiences await too and that always makes it exciting. Have a wonderful Christmas and a wonderful new year in your new home and best wishes for your husbands new endeavour!!!
Wyatt Earp shaped up Ellsworth in the 1870s and was supposed to have shot and killed a mean resident.
There is a DVD out called from Ellsworth to Tombstone.
I'm so sad you are leaving, but I know you'll be a blessing to any community you become a part of... lucky folks where you are headed :D I know people who have moved to the far reaches of Kansas ;) ~ mostly they love it there so I'm sure you will too.
Tobina,
There will always be a time in your life when you must make a change for your family. Your time has come, you can make it a good change or make it a bad change. I hope you and Chuck will go and make a good change. Rex and I wish you the best and what ever you do, keep that baby safe as she will always be a bright spot in your life no matter what you do or where you go.
Jane
Thanks for everyone's good wishes. We are excited about starting new, but still sad to leave our friends and communities in Elk County. We will have a house provided, as most ranch jobs provide housing. We will miss our big new house that we live in now, but we're spoiled. I'm not too concerned about the weather, as I grew up 3 hours Northwest of there. Chuck lived there for 5 years before coming down here, so he's used to it, too (as much as a guy from Florida can get used to the cold, anyway). I'm lucky that my job is able to go with me wherever I go, too. I'll start back to work after Jan 1, so at least I don't have to worry about moving, new baby, AND job at the same time!
Diane; our cat and dog are outside animals, so they probably don't even notice the addition to the family. Although the other night when Josey was squalling so loudly, she apparently woke the dog, as he went to barking, too! Yes, Ellsworth is about 40 miles West of Salina, in central Kansas. We'll be about halfway between Salina and Ellsworth.
We probably won't have too much Christmas at our new house. We might not even be unpacked by then! My brother is getting married the week before, and we'll probably go to my parents' for Christmas. It will be fun to have a new baby at Christmas, but next year when she's a little older will be even more fun!
Whew, you have one full calendar! Planning and packing and wedding and moving....you'll wake up on Christmas morning and wonder where you are! What a great adventure lies ahead.
This is sad news!! But you have to do what you have to do for your family!! We will miss you!! My best friend lives in Ellsworth, so I just might get up that way!! I haven't been to see her for awhile, because her dad lives here and she usually comes home to visit him. But best wishes on your new venture!!
Enjoy your move and look forward to each and every day Tobino..
Remember that we are not on this earth flying by the seat of our pants without a driver...
Things are happening as they should in your life.. all things are for a reason.
Grab this new change with a smile and anticipation.. for you have the 2 most important people with you throughout the journey.. (http://www.cascity.com/howard/animations/95.gif)Chuck and Josie...
Keep in touch!~~ :)
Tobina, you have been such a positive influence on us. I've always appreciated your common sense. You have been a reminder to all of us that rural Americans are truly the salt of the earth.
I'll add my best wishes to you also, Tobina. I believe that if you're happy where you came from, you'll be happy where you're going, so, continue being happy!
Looking forward to the pictures as your baby grows and changes so much.
Good luck.
Tobina,
Larry said it best, once you have lived in Elk County it stay within you. My Dad was in the Air Force so I spent the first 17 years of my life moving and Dad retired in Howard back in 1975. I was only there for my senior year (75-76) and then went off to college but always came back and visited. It was not until I was much older that I realized what amazing communities are in Elk County.
My parents lived there for many years, well up until their deaths and my Aunt Betty and nephews still lives in Moline. The area has my heart and I am always talking about wanting to move back. Will I ever move back? That I do not know but I know I will always go back and visit the community and will take photos at every opportunity I get of the local athlectic teams.
I do not know many of the folks in the Moline/Howard area anymore but I do recognize names that I remember my Mother talking about so that I is why I keep stopping by here, I can just hear my Mother saying, "Nandine did you hear Tonina is moving?" She was the internet of Elk County for me back in the days when we did not even know what the internet was LOL.
My Dad's family came to Elk Co in 1871. I only spent the first three years of my life in Elk Co and yet I have such an attachment to it. Our roots evidently grow deep in Elk Co and never die.
Well, we are officially moved into our new home! Still have paths around boxes, but slowly unpacking! Since I last posted, its been a flurry of activity and travel. Chuck's mom came and spent a week with us over Thanksgiving. We took her to the airport on Friday night, and Sunday at noon Chuck's dad arrived! They left Tuesday to head to Salina for hunting, and my mom came later that day to help us pack. It was some power-packing, and we finished on Friday and loaded up to head to NW KS so Chuck could hunt. Chuck got his deer on Saturday and because of the storm, decided to head back to Howard. I stayed with my parents that week (and my mom and I did some power internet shopping since we were snowed in). The movers came on Thursday to load up. My parents, Josey, and I headed to Salina to meet Chuck that day, and the movers unloaded on Friday. We had a few days in the house to get stuff unpacked, and then I headed to Manhattan the next Wednesday to help get ready for my brother's wedding. We got him married on Friday night, and I headed home Saturday night. We were planning on going to my parents for Christmas either Wednesday or Thursday, but it looks like the weather will keep us home. All my gifts were shipped to my mom's house, so we'll just have to enjoy our Josey gift on Christmas morning!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! So what have you been doing in your spare time? ;D ;D
WOW Roller Coaster Ride for sure --- So glad you have your wee one to keep you grounded.
MERRY CHRISTMAS Enjoy all of God's blessings!!!
What an exhausting-sounding time. :D
I think a lot of folks will stay home this year instead of traveling... You are right, enjoy what you have where you are and the rest will work itself out in time :)
Have a Merry Christmas Tobina. It sounds like being snowed in at home could give you guys a breather.
I was just thinking about you.Merry Christmas!
What GG, Jo, Mom, Joanna, Roma and Diane said.... and Merry Christmas, Tobina and family.
Here is something you can do if snowed in.... deer jerky... mmmmm.... good venison.
Tobina,
I think you can tell by the responses on this forum that YOU will be missed in this county.
We need all the young families we can get, and we're still reeling from the news of your leaving. We do wish you well. But please know that your Elk County friends will welcome you back in a New York minute if you ever see it as a possibility! Come home often, OK?
Thanks, Rudy! I will miss Elk county, too (already do)! I haven't been very good about taking picures these past couple of weeks, but here's one I took today!
Oh my goodness, she is growing so fast! What an adorable little angel! Have a great Christmas. :)
Well, isn't she just adorable? You and Chuck and both sets of Grandparents have the best Christmas present ever.
Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing the picture. ;) ;)
Doesn't their little smiles just break you down into a million pieces???
I think being a mother is the best thing in the whole world.. and then when you ae rewarded with being a Grandma..............well.. there are no words to describe it.
Thanks for sharing.. She is precious!
