Title: More Football
Post by: W. Gray on August 13, 2009, 07:58:23 PM
Football season essentially started last Sunday and continues tonight, tomorrow night, and the weekend (even if it is only preseason).

For those who may not have enough football to watch this fall, a new major league, the United Football League, is launching this October to play on Wed, Thurs, and Friday nights.

The initial teams are
California Redwoods (San Francisco and owned by Nancy Pelosi's husband)
Florida Tuskers (Orlando)
Las Vegas Locomotives
New York Sentinels

Games are to be televised on the Versus sports network and HDTV (where Dan Rather hides out).

Expansion teams are being investigated for Los Angeles, Hartford, Salt Lake City, Monterrey, Mexico City, Detroit, Chicago, Omaha, London, and Germany.

Just turned on the TV, The Fox station here is getting ready to show the Cowboys at the Raiders.

As for expansion, I always had a dream of getting George Kaiser, T. Boone Pickens, and Charles Koch to team up and build a stadium where the Cimmaron Turnpike meets I-35.  It'd be about the same distance from OKC, Tulsa and Wichita.  And the team would be called the "Prairie Rattlers"

ESPN has Arizona and Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh is ahead with a little over a minute to play.

I like the idea of the Prarie Rattlers.  I think it could go a long way.

These statistics might surprise you folks in Chiefsland.

Since 1990 the Chiefs are 104-90, the best in the NFL (through 2007, though).

Arrowhead Stadium is the fourth largest in seating capacity in the NFL.

Voters approved $850 million to renovate both Kaufman Stadium (Royals) and Arrowhead Stadium but narrowly rejected almost $150 million to place a rolling roof to be shared by both stadiums.

Renovation will continue on both Stadiums through 2010.

What exactly is a "Tusker"?

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the team was named for the wild boar and the name was selected from entries received from 30,000 people.

Yes, just confirmed with hubby from FL.  He said the general term for hogs is "tuskers" to some people.
