(A bit of a long read, but fun--in a sad kind of way)
John G. is 63 years old and owns a small business. He's a life-long Republican and sees his dream of retiring next year has all but evaporated. With the stock market crashing and new taxes coming his way, John assumes now that he will work to his dying day.
John has a granddaughter. Ashley is a recent college grad. She drives a flashy hybrid car, wears all the latest fashions, and loves to go out to nightclubs and restaurants. Ashley campaigned hard for Barak Obama. After the election she made sure her grandfather (and all other Republican family members) received a big I told-you-so earful on how the world is going to be a much better place now that her party is taking over.
Having lost both roommates, Ashley recently ran short of cash and cannot pay the rent (again) on her 3 bedroom townhouse. Like she has done many times in the past, she e-mailed her grandfather asking for some financial help.
Here is his reply:
Sweetheart,
I received your request for assistance.
Ashley, you know I love you dearly and I'm sympathetic to your financial plight. Unfortunately, times have changed. With the election of President Obama, your grandmother and I have had to set forth a bold new economic plan of our own..."The Ashley Economic Empowerment Plan." Let me explain.
Your grandmother and I are life-long, wage-earning tax payers. We have lived a comfortable life, as you know, but we have never had the fancier things like expensive vacations, luxury cars or anything that we could not afford.
We have worked hard and were looking forward to retiring soon. But the plan has changed. Your president is raising our personal and business taxes significantly. He says it is so he can give our hard earned money to other people. Do you know what this means, Ashley? It means less for us, and we must cut back on many business and personal expenses.
You know the wonderful receptionist who worked in my office for more than 23 years? The one who always gave you candy when came over to visit? I had to let her go last week. I can't afford to pay her salary and all of the government mandated taxes that go with having employees. Your grandmother will now work 4 days a week to answer phones, take orders and handle the books. We will be closed on Fridays and will lose even more income to the Wal-mart.
I'm also very sorry to report that your cousin Frank will no longer be working summers in the warehouse. I called him at school this morning. He already knows about it and he's upset because he will have to give up skydiving and his yearly trip to Greenland to survey the polar bears.
That's just the business side of things. Some personal economic effects ofObama's new taxation policies include none other than you. You know very well that over the years your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in cash, tuition assistance, food, housing, clothing, gifts, etc.,etc. But by your vote, you have chosen to help others -- not at your expense -- but at our expense.
If you need money now sweatheart, I recommend you call 202-456-1111. That is the direct phone number for the White House. You yourself told me how foolish it is to vote Republican. You said Mr. Obama is going to be the People's President, and is going to help every American live a better life.
Based on everything you've told me, along with all the promises we heard during the campaign, I'm sure Mr. Obama will be happy to transfer some stimulus money into your bank account. Have him call me for the account number which I memorized years ago.
Perhaps you can now understand what I've been saying all my life: those who vote for a president should consider the impact on the nation as a whole, and not be just concerned with what they can get for themselves. What Obama supporters don't seem to realize is all of the money he is redistributing to illegal aliens and non-taxpaying Americans (the so-called "less fortunate") comes from tax-paying families.
Remember how you told me, "Only the richest of the rich will be affected"? Well guess what, honey? Because we own a business, your grandmother and I are now considered to be the richest of the rich. On paper, it might look that way, but in the real world, we are far from it.
As you said while campaigning for Obama, some people will have to carry more of the burden so all of America can prosper. You understand what that means, right? It means that raising taxes on productive people results in them having less money. Less money for everything, including granddaughters.
I'm sorry, Ashley, but the well has run dry. The free lunches are over. I have no money to give you now.
So, congratulations on your choice for "change." For future reference, I encourage you to try and add up the total value of the gifts and cash you have received from us, just since you went off to college, and compare it to what you expect to get from Mr. Obama over the next 4 (or 8) years. I have not kept track of it, Ashley. It has all truly been the gift of our hearts.
Remember, we love you dearly...but from now on you'll need to call the number mentioned above. Your "Savior" has the money we would have given to you. Just try and get it from him.
Good luck, sweetheart.
Love, Grandpa.
This is far from funny, unfortunately...I am witnessing this letter being actually lived out in a couple of friends' families. I will be so glad when this sad four years are over with.
I like how so many people wake up, find themselves broke, and blame Obama, who has been in office for 6 months. Yet the ones complaining the loudest are the republicans, who have voted in crook after crook and have been in control of the government for the last 8-10 years. It is sad, it's sad that the thinking americans have to pay for the willful ignorance of people who vote for a candidate just because of their party. Too many people, including members of these forums, ignore the real issues and let other people do their thinking for them.
Maybe Grandpa, like so many others, while such a good business man, should have been busy teaching Ashley how to be self-sustaining instead of handing her everything she wanted.
I wish all of you "Obama Lovers" would get on here and list all the wonderful things you think he has done for this country.
You want to do that???? Then do it!!!

I don't think anyone who posts regularly on this forum is an "Obama Lover" I think people just are tired of hearing the lies and silly bickering that go back and forth. Take the following story as an example;
1992 Bill clinton : Hey y'all, i'm gonna balance the budget
Repubs: We don't like you, but it's a great idea, lets get to work
1997: Budget Balanced for the first time in 30 years
2000: Bush says: Hey, screw this surplus nonsense, lets give money to rich people. Also, lets try to fix a system that works by removing some rules. By the way, I inherited a recession, so what happens to the economy isn't my fault. I think i'll also increase the size and power of the federal government.
2008: Economy collapses, Deficit back to all-time highs. Bush and house republicans bail out banks and auto industry, create TARP.
2009: Obama elected president, spends more money to try and recoup Bush's bailouts, inherited one of the worst recessions in US history
mid 2009: Repubs and members of this forum "OMG Obama ruined the economy and took us towards socialism"
Me: This is too important to play political games with. Stop complaining about people who are trying to fix this mess that people you support created. Instead, help find a solution.
ANWAR Someone said on here recently that you were full of something, my husband and my neighbors says that you are totally full of crap. The original "OBAMA MAMA" is on this forum as well as others. You think you are way to smart for us dumb country folk and you have to put in some smart aleck comment to everything.

I don't even know where to start.
Addressing the poster by the name ANWAR. In caps, I assume, to make it blatantly obvious how racist you are? I can't think of any other reason unless you are just naturally rude.
It's too bad there isnt some sort of grammar check on here. Although I dont think that would have helped you much. The next time you want to call someone out for being "to smart" I highly recommend you double check your spelling, grammar and word usage. Here, let me show you what your sentence SHOULD have looked like, had it been written by someone of obvious 9th grade intelligence:
Anmar, (see what i did there) Someone said on here recently that you were full of something. My husband and my neighbors SAY that you are totally full of crap. I could have done better, but you get the point.

Good one Anwar :)
If you are speaking to me. I'm not an "Obama Lover" nor am I an "Obama Hater". I don't think the Government should keep me and I damn sure don't think Grandpa should pay my way either.
The vote here is unanimous, Cellar and Anmar are one in the same, the attitude, writing style and wording are the same for both posters. The better, smarter than thou attitude is obvious.

LoL.. Unanimous, huh? We are in fact not the same person, as i am sure the moderator can verify by our IP addresses. I am simply someone who has perused the forums for a while, but felt the need to post when I read what you said. Nothing more, nothing less. But thank you.

You and i don't get to vote. You still have yet to address an actual issue Elk. Sitting here and attacking me personally won't really do any good. Maybe you'll feel better, i'm not sure. But when you are ready to actually talk about issues, facts, and possible solutions; I'm here.
By the way, moderators can track IP addresses of posters who are online, thus enabling them to see who is who. You are the same person as Warph, how about that. I bet you're me too, and we are just arguing with ourselves out of boredom.

You still have yet to address an actual issue Elk.
You're a little late to this particular party, Anmar...Elk has indeed posted definite opinions on this Forum (previous to this particular post). I believe, perhaps, the condescending tone of the post in question might have triggered the response.
Catwoman,
Elk said i was full of crap, i asked, what have i said that isn't true?
In this thread, Elk has not spoken on any issues, only made personal attacks and name calling. The same kind of silly things that people have been complaining about on these forums.
I'm saying, if anyone wants to discuss issues, lets do it. I don't need hateful rhetoric and neither does anyone else. I've worked in politics and i'm accustomed to being insulted, so it doesn't bother me much, but sitting around here and insulting people isn't going to solve anything. We can sit here and argue till we're blue in the face and in the meantime China, Russia, Israel and the UAE own more than half our country. We have a national debt that we're never going to pay off, our education and health care system is among the worst of the developed countries and all Elk and her neighbors can say is that I'm full of crap.
Only once in the history of the United States has the national debt ever been paid in full.
That was for one year during the Andrew Jackson administration in the 1830s.
One of the biggest steps Jackson took was abolishing the federal Bank. They are the biggest economic enemy of the American people. Why we sit here and let a private, non-government entity have control of our money supply is beyond me.

You left out 2001: 9/11/01 Terror attack, Katrinia, and the War in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But you are right, this goes beyond party lines, and the bush did that obama did this argument.
LOL.... OMG... this is amazing. See what ol' grandpa started.... :D :D :D
Well, thats what ol grandpa gets for paying taxes according to a tax policy that hasn't even been proposed yet. ;)
