Wilma, are you watching the NBA playoffs?
Yes, Cleveland just cinched the next playoffs. I think it will be with Boston. My team is Cleveland because a Kansas boy is their star player. I thought I understood that he is from Wichita.
Mavericks and Nuggets are playing right now. I don't know who is leading in games won, but Dallas is a few points ahead in this game. The game has just started. The Nuggets have played awfully good ball this year and I wouldn't be surprised if they play the Lakers to go to the main game.
I hated to see Denver win by one point with one second left under the controversial circumstances of Saturday, but they won.
I figured Denver would probably lose tonight's game since Dallas is so good at home, but they are quite a bit ahead.
Should Denver win, they have long row to hoe against LA, not to mention the Cavaliers.
If they can take LA, they can take the Cav's.
Looks like it is Orlando-Cleveland and Lakers-Nuggets. Sorry about Boston, Diane.
Oh well. :'( ;)
Waldo, how about them Nuggets? Didn't I tell ya? Didn't I? Oh, I did say IF, didn't I? Go, Nuggets!
Go Mc Nuggets! Don't be chicken, get it all. Oh, wrong ones? ;D
Resolved, I shall remain mum on this thread until the Lakers are holding the trophy in their hands. :-X
Larryj
Wilma,
If one thinks about it, the Nuggets could very well be up 2-0.
Of course, a Jack Nicholson might say it could be the other way also.
Nuggets have a long winning streak at home and are unbeaten at home in the playoffs.
That is good news. Isn't the next game in Denver?
The next two games are in Denver, then one in L.A., then one in Denver, and the last in L.A., as needed.
Two in Denver will make it 3-1, one in LA, maybe 3-2, back to Denver 4-1. YEA, Nuggets!
WILMA! WILMA! WAKE UP! YOU ARE HAVING THAT NASTY NIGHTMARE AGAIN. ::) ::) ::)
;D ;D ;D
Thanks, Larry, I needed that. How much are the Nuggets going to win by tonight?
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Whoops! Wilma, you might have to refigure the playoff schedule. I seem to recall that you said something earlier about "see you at the finals". Then you began saying that the nuggets were going to beat LA. Which is it? Is LA going to the finals or the nuggets? I am so confused here. The most that Denver can hope for now is a tie before going back to God's country. AND, OMG, they might come back here down 3-1!
Larryj
Whoops! I forgot I was going to keep mum until the Lakers were holding the trophy. Oh, well, see quote at bottom.
Larryj
Maybe I should adopt your slogan. All I have to say is "It ain't over yet". Actually I am almost always for the underdog, whichever that is.
Orlando - 2, Cleveland - 1
Lakers - 2, Nuggets - 2
Cleveland is one point ahead at the end of the third quarter. This is getting interesting, but I am getting tired, so I am going to shut down for the night. Good night, all.
Orlanda - 3, Cleveland - 1 Surprised?
Lakers - 3, Nuggets - 2
I seem to have forgotten to post yesterday's results.
Orlando - 3, Cleveland - 2
Nuggets have to win tonight or the series is over.
Well their season is over. LA is on to the finals.
Larryj
Gee, Larry, hadn't heard from you. Thought you had conceded. So, on to the finals. Who will we be playing, Cleveland or Orlando? If Cleveland plays and I think they will, I will have to be for them as their star player is a Kansas boy. Otherwise, Go Lakers.
Whaddya mean "we"? I don't recall there being a "we". Concede? No, not me.
HOWEVER, being the nice guy that I am------Thank you for your support (maybe) of the Lakers. It should prove to be a good series. Too bad "we" have to wait a week for the games to start.
Larryj
Maybe I am a closet Laker supporter. Can't come out if a Kansas boy is playing.
Here I am, Larry. I can support the Lakers now. Go, Lakers.
Great, Wilma, glad to have on board with all of us Laker fans.
Larryj
Wish we didn't have to wait so long for the next game.
Coming in late here - Didn't really know who to root for, until Jim reminded me Orlando is where Pat Williams is from, and I have to favor any team that has people that focus that much on adoption.
So . . .
Go Orlando!
:) :) :)
Well, at last, some competition. Go Lakers. But good luck to Mom.
Well, there definitely wasn't any magic in last night's game. So sad. :(
Maybe Sunday . . . .
We have at least 3 more games. I hope Orlando wins at least 2 of them so we can watch longer.
At least tonight's game was close - but still no magic - they lost in overtime! :(
2 down, 2 left
L(akers)arryj
HA! ;D ;D ;D
Lakers won again in overtime. The series is now Lakers - 3, Magic - 1. Magic needs to win this next one just to keep the series going. Not ready to give up basketball yet.
Sure isn't looking good for my poor Magic. :(
Maybe if I were a more enthusiastic supporter . . . I could start yelling during the game? ???
yeah, mom, yell all you want. Just keep it clean so the neighbors won't call the police.
The biggest problem here is: Do the Lakers win in Orlando in Game 5 and the idiots in LA have a mini-riot in the streets around Staples Center? Or, do the Lakers win in Game 6 or Game 7 and the idiots in LA have a mini-riot in the streets around Staples Center? Tough call!
Larryj
I always taught my kids every problem has at least 3 options.
So, the third option here is . . .
Magic happens - Orlando wins in 7 games and we totally avoid the mini-riot!
:D :D :o :D :D
Yea, Mom.
Nope, wrong, the invitations for the upcoming mini-riot will be mailed to Orlando so they can have a min-riot there. Dress is casual leaning toward replicas of star players jerseys. There will be no open bar so BYOB. Try not to be photographed destroying someones property so you can't be prosecuted. Avoid hitting or swinging at someone dressed in blue with a badge on no matter how drunk you are as this could delay your return to work or school the next day and will cost you a lot of money in fines or time lost. Other than these precautions have a good time!!!!
Larryj
LAKER'S WIN!!!!!! YEA, LAKERS. When does the party start?
Now I can tell you the truth. I haven't cared who won since the Suns failed to make the play-offs. GO, SUNS!!!
Wonder how baseball is doing.
Well, I am sitting here watching all the idiots downtown showing their intelligence and physical prowness. I mean it takes a lot to lift a trash can and smash it into a police car. I never was a big fan of any sport that I had to run into town and smash things or tear small trees out of planters to build bonfires with. What a bunch of dolts ::)
When our kids were growing up they both played baseball/softball. So we as a family were really into those sports and still are to a lesser degree. After the Lakers won tonight my wife wondered what she would do now. I told her it was back to baseball or nothing.
Congrats to the Lakers!!!!!
Larryj
Orlando lost - that is sooo sad. And Jim and I were the jinx :D.
They were ahead when we tuned in - and got to watch that Lakers run of 16+ unanswered points.
That was impressive.
And we were sad. :(
On the other hand . . .
QuoteWonder how baseball is doing.
Jim's in seventh heaven. His Yankees won today, trouncing my Mets.
:D :D :D
Okay now I am PO'd! There are a bunch of them running around waving a mexican flag. That is uncalled for and totally unnecessary. I have never been biased in my entire life, but I am starting to not like those idiots carrying a mexican flag.
Larryj
Ok, I'm confused. ??? What's the connection? Mexico and the Lakers? ???
Idiots are idiots everywhere, I guess. ::)
There is no connection, or nada, as it is pronounced in East LA. Los Angeles has more than its share of Mexican people and they are proud of their heritage as we are of ours. However, they came here for a better life in the UNITED STATES that has a flag with stars and stripes on it. There is no room for a mexican flag anywhere except on a consulate building. However I took it as a slap in the face for them to be waving it around in the streets of downtown and especially on FLAG DAY, AMERICAN FLAG DAY.
Larryj
Wilma, as to how baseball is doing:
The Rockies are currently the hottest team in the major leagues with eleven straight wins.
The Rockies also hold the top National League record in inter league play since that type of play began a few years ago. Go figure.
I think the Royals even have a three game winning streak.
The 1935 Chicago Cubs hold the longest win streak in baseball history at 21 games, unless one is willing to count the 1916 New York Giants. That team won 26 straight in 27 games. One of the games in between was a tie. That game may be the only tie in baseball that I have ever heard about.
Well, okay, that's it. They had the parade and they had the ceremony in the Colliseum. Now how long will the media stay on this hoping for some violence or something like that. So far, the media have been careful about pointing out how great the fans are and one reporter was amazed at the absence of trash along Figueroa St. For those who are not basketball fans, the reason you are not getting any service at your local store or mall, DUH!! They are all downtown celebrating. 95,000 people inside the colliseum and probably twice that number on the streets. It would be interesting to know how many called in sick.
Well the media is backing off so maybe LA looks a little better than the other night.
Larryj
Colorado Rockies:
June 20: Fifteen wins in sixteen games.
They must have been playing Kansas City.
Those Royals are a far cry from when I used to drive down the street to see their games at what is now Kaufman Stadium.
The state of the art stadium that I attended when it opened is now a thirty-seven year old facility with a new face. I recall the most expensive seats, the Gold Seats, were a whopping $8.
Both Arrowhead and Kaufman were intended to be a covered stadium but at the phenomenal cost of $15 million the idea was discarded.
The recent renovations at Arrowhead and Kaufman stadiums reconsidered the cover option, but again the idea was discarded as too costly.
As an aside, the Dallas Cowboys will play this fall in a $1.3 billion covered stadium, which, in a non-football configuration, is supposed to be the largest seating capacity stadium in the U.S.
The money could have been better spent for better basketball facilities. And to beef up the Phoenix Suns. They need some help.
My understanding is that Jerry Jones owns the stadium and is paying the lion's share. There is public money involved, though as a condition for the new stadium.
I think Dodger Stadium may be the only privately constructed stadium in the U.S.
As I mentioned once before, Connie Mack had it right when he managed the Athletics, owned the team, owned the stadium it played in, and rented his stadium out to the Phillies including the Phillies meager World Series play. Now those rentals, alone, would be payback.
Without a computer, his game scheduler might have been rather busy. The two teams, though, never came close to playing each other in that stadium in the World Series.
Wilma,
Do you ever get a chance to see the Patriots or the Lions play?
Whenever they are the scheduled games on TV. Remember, I can watch 2 games at the same time. My favorite team was the Dolphins while Jimmie Johnson and Dan Marino was with them. I hope I am right about those names. Now, I am not so picky. I have enjoyed the quarterback brothers rise. I liked watching the football player that was from Wichita. And of course I will miss Bret Favre whenever he decides to quit. I'm not particular.
Since you like basketball so much, I was actually referring to the West Elk Patriots and the Elk Valley Lions.
No, I don't get to high school games. High school gymnasiums are not wheel chair friendly, altho, I don't imagine that stops Steve Fielder. I envy him his courage in going ahead and doing anything he wants to. I have to get my sports over the TV. The Royals lost big time again and Tiger Woods isn't anywhere near the lead. Now you know what is on my TVs this afternoon. I might be able to find another baseball game on the bedroom TV, but that takes a lot of rolling back and forth.
