Howard Courant Citizen
Thursday, September 6, 1956
The deal was completed last week in which John E. Batson purchased the Allen Drug Store in Howard, which had been conducted so successfully for so many years by W. E. Allen, up to the time of his death. John took possession last week end and business is continuing with the same sales force.
The new proprietor is well and favorably known here, having lived here the greater part of his life, attended our schools, served his country during World War II, and worked for a number of years after completing his education as a registered pharmacist. He has been with the Allen store for the past several years and is a popular and useful citizen. Mr. and Mrs. Batson own and live in a newly constructed home in the northeast part of Howard.
The Allen Drug store has been known for years over this part of Kansas as one of the best and most up-to-date in this section of the state and has always enjoyed a good patronage.
Mr. Batson will continue the same high quality merchandise, with good service and will be happy to serve the folks of the community at all times.
My mother worked for Mr and Mrs Allen in the drug store when they were open. She has some stories to tell on that .. hahaha
I will whine and nag her until she shares some of them with us on here..
