What is your favorite Christmas gift that you received??? (Can be current and/or times past)
This year, the most fun gift was a new cappuccino machine! It's a small Mr. Coffee one.
The most special gift was a pretty cross necklace from my hubby.
The gift I liked giving the most was new silverware for my mom and new dishes for my sister.
The gift I liked seeing someone else give was when my brother proposed to his girlfriend!
Oh, almost forgot... my favorite "practical" gift was a Swiffer Sweeper Vac! Silly, I know, but proved to be very handy on my tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom already!
My favorite gift was the gift of getting to see my whole family together, spending that precious time in the same space together...especially getting to see the look on my childrens' faces when they opened their gifts. We have lost so many people out of our family that each person present is a present unto themselves.
I agree Cat. I loved spending time with my family, as well as Billy's. It's a very special time for everyone to come together and it's almost like time slows down that day.
My favorite gift to give were the gifts I got Billy. He never expects anything and he gets so excited when he gets something he can really use! He received a carwash system made by Mr. Clean. He's particular about keeping his pickup clean. He also received a cordless screwdriver, which he thought would come in handy. And also, a beautiful pocketknife set from Winchester. It came in a really pretty wooden box.
I also bought a gift for both Billy and Lane. Billy loves to fish and Lane likes to go along but he can't handle any of the large poles we have. So, I got Lane a little Zebco kid's pole that he can use. They were both really excited!
My favorite gift that I received...was...A Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber. It's like a handheld carpet shampooer, but it's mostly used for quick cleanups. Anyone who has kids needs one of these!! When you spill juice or anything else, you spray a pretreatment on the spot, let it set for 5 minutes, scrub it with the automatic scrubber and then suck up the nasty water. It's great!!! That was from Billy. He also got me more cartridges for my Cricut. :)
This was also a big year for Lane. He's really into Santa now and understands what it's all about. We wrote letters to Santa (who wrote back!), and left him milk and cookies. It was so great to see his face on Christmas morning when he saw that Santa came and left presents for him under the tree. He couldn't believe Santa ate the cookies and drank all the milk too. It's times like that when I feel so blessed to be a parent. :)
My greatest gift was my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were here with smiles and appetites. Our gift giving was minimal this year. Why spend money you don't have on something you can't afford for someone who probably doesn't need it anyhow? I gave my girls family heirlooms, as I have for several years. Of course gifts were bought for the little ones. The most practical gift I got was a GE Cappaccino maker, probably not the biggest one they make but a large one and I love it. Still trying to get the "foam" just right, but practice makes perfect and sure does taste good.
Flo; we'll have to exchange tips on using our capp makers! I still haven't mastered mine yet... the foam is way to foamy before my milk is even warm! I finally figured out that my "foam aid" tip has holes in the side that make it foam faster. So, I'll either have to warm my milk in the micro first, or not use the tip. I've been using decaf coffee and drinking some in the evenings to help "wind down".
I may have told this before but my favorite gift ever was Al. He was discharged from the Army and I got him home for good on Christmas eve 1968.
awwwwww Diane.. That was nice. :)
I have received so many wonderful gifts over the years, but (silly as it may seem) the one that comes forth every time is the one that Fred gave me in 1946. We had only had two dates, and he asked Mama and Daddy if I could go with him to his Mother's side of the family's Christmas dinner. He gave me a small gold compact and the card on it said:
Someone who likes you, bought this gift,
Someone who likes you, tied it,
Someone who likes you, very much
Has put this wish inside it.
Merry Christmas
Love, Fred
We were married on May 16th, 1947
That was sweet mama...I have never heard that story. My most favorite gift of all was when Tania was born but a gift that I still treasure today is Mr Bimm. I was very little and we lived in Pittsburg and I got this monkey named Mr. Bimm. He was my best friend and I still have him. He is a little worn for the wear but he is still wonderful and still my friend. Brings back lots and lots of memories. My family has always made Christmas so fun and I can't wait for mama and daddy to be back so next year we can all get together and play games and have a Christmas like the old times. That will be the best ever.
I have thought about this subject and couldn't decide what I liked best. School pictures of my great grandchildren was heading the list until I read Rudy's column in today's Prairie Star.
He wrote about the pleasure of having the house full of his children and their children. I think what I enjoyed most about my Christmas was the houseful. My 4 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 5 grandchildren, 3 grandchildren's spouses and 10 and 1/2 great grandchildren, ranging in age from 18 years to 18 months. My little house was full, but all was peaceful and quiet. The great grandchildren played together without fussing and I have the pictures to prove it.
Wilma, I have to agree with you, the best Christmas Present for us was having all of our Family here for several days. That is always the best part of life, having family together. We visited, played games went to the Rifle and pistol ranges and and had a great time. I remember Christmas as a young boy and looking forward to my older brothers and sisters and Nieces and Nephews coming home and all of the fun we had. Every square inch of the floors in my folks' old house was covered with sleeping people at night. We played cards and games sometime all night, it was fun just listening to the stories my older siblings told about growing up in a family of 15 kids.

My favorite Christmas gift!!! Was my daughter Spc Vinette,Rachael getting out of Iraq after 15 months in the sand. She did have some close calls and said they were not allowed to fire back. She sounds fine seems happy and at this time is in Germany going to Paris, Amsterdam and some small towns around Frankfort Germany. That was all Rex and I could ask for as a Christmas Gift.
Army Mom
Jane, we are really pleased to hear that your Daughter is out of Iraq and Harm's way. Happy New Year to you and Rex and your family.
Frank and Myrna
Jane, how absolutely wonderful that your sweet Rachel is safe and out of Iraq. I have to tell you, I have some wonderful memories about that sweet little girl. She could be so funny, when she was telling things that made you roll your eyes. lol lol
I was always so pleased when you, Rex and Rachel would come in to the salon when you were home visiting.
We pray that she will stay safe always.

For the first time ever, our entire family posed for a photo during our Christmas get-together. We seldom get all the kids and grandkids to come at the same time. We couldn't have asked for a better gift.
Nice family! You are a lucky man Rudy!
Oh Rudy.,. That is awesome. What a nice looking family..
What a lovely family!
That photo will be cherished for years to come.
What will be interesting is - if you ever get everyone together again, pose in the same positions.
Makes comparisons fun.
I loved your family picture, Rudy. It is certainly a blessing to have all of your family home at the same time. Everybody looks so good, and the little ones are wonderful. Thanks for posting the picture.
Rudy and family,
That picture gives one a warm cozy feeling in the heart. It is Wonderful - and thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
