Title: INCOGNITO
Post by: flo on October 02, 2008, 10:39:13 AM
I have something to say about forum members who do not use their own names.  Are you afraid to let others know your true feelings about things? Hide your true identity and stand around the corner or some other hiden place and hollar obsenities/crude remarks/opinions at someone but don't want them to know who said that? If you are afraid to state your opinions in public and take credit/flack for them, then I think that is a bit childish and just a bit rude.

Flo, I read Warph's post and understand why you've said what you have.  I agree...the post shouldn't have been put there.  I assure you...those of us who use a pen name have friends on this forum who know exactly who we are...which is enough.  I doubt that anyone is using a pen name to deliberately irritate anyone.

My opinion (for what it's worth)...  8)
Let people have whatever screen name they want.
BUT... do not throw personal attacks or insults around to others if no one knows who you are.  If you're going to insult someone or be rude, have the decency to do it under your own, real name.   >:(
Better yet... no need for personal insults at all on this forum.

If you have 2 opinions, then by all means, have 2 screen names.  Even funnier... argue with yourself.  But do not use one anonymous screen name to publicly flog someone.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but......I closed my other account and made a new one because the other half wanted to post as well. So here we are...Devyn, Billy, and Lane.  :)

I think it's very shady of these people with 2 screen names to go about this way. Grow up. Don't hide behind your new name. In my opinion, it shows what kind of person you truly are out there in the real world.

I agree with you, Tobina.  There is absolutely no need for personal attacks on this forum.  If you can't find anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!

Flo, CDBL, Tobina, and Catwoman, Pam if those are indeed your real names , I agree with much of what you say. As far as the screen name goes I don't think it matters if it is a pen name or a given name. If you have a reply to someone incognito just reply to whatever name they have chosen. Otherwise I agree with you all.

;D that is my real name and that is my real picture, altho it is 4 yrs. old and I no longer wear glasses.  I am not afraid to identify myself AND what I say on here I will say out loud.  I don't ask that everyone agree with me, but at least you know who said it and that way if you see me on the street and want to discuss it further, I'm more than willing.  That is the point I was trying to make.

That's my picture and this is my name (hey, you think I can make something like that up?).   :D
...Of course when I change my picture later on and it's my dog, that will be a funny statement to re-read.
Flo; we all agree with you... we just have to put our own spin on it... forum style!

Oh, BTW, you think there's some mud-slinging going on in the Coffee Shop... stay away from Politics!  The stuff they're slinging is a little more smelly.  Can't wait for the election to be over.  Nothing that's said on this forum is going to change my vote, anyway.

greatguns is not my name, but I did use to be a Cannon before I came to Greenwood County and if you look up my e-mail address you will probably figure it out.  Now for those that only lurk, I really don't care if they know who I am.  If I decide to get as huffy as some,  I will sign my name.  Flo you know me.

We were lurkers or just observers for along long time, we discussed joining the forum then we began to see how nasty some of you could be when someone disagreed with you. We started having our neighbors over and they began to copy and print some of the posts. We finally said we are not about to let the rude and nasty people know who we are or who are relatives are in Elk County. The all time nasty was when someone said a person was "Raping the People" because they worked in the Oil and Gas Industry. In the first place the person was working not setting around whining for the Democrats to give them something they didn't earn. Secondly , how much energy does this person think we would have if noone worked in the industry. We don't know the one that works in the Oil Industry but we do know some of his family and they were all very hard working people and sure didn't deserve that type of trash. Our neighbors all wanted to take a copy of that post home to show other people. There are some people that do not want to discuss a subject, they just want to be nasty to the poster. I wouldn't blame anybody that doesn't reveal who they are or who their family is. I have already said more than I should but I wanted you to know why some people do not want to reveal their identity.

Y'know believe it or not I've tempered myself at times because my Ma and sister live in Howard, not cause anybody scares me just out of respect. Other than that, I've always been if I won't say it to your face I ain't gonna say it behind your back kind of person, and I've finally pretty much outgrown needin other peoples approval of my opinions lol

I've been using the nickname Indygal for nearly 10 years, and the forum isn't the only place I use it. "Indy" literally became my nickname with many people who know me, and I even named my mosaic studio/business Indy Art, and sign my work as "indy." I have never "hid" behind my onscreen name in order to say things I otherwise wouldn't ... and won't. Plenty of folks know who I am and plenty of others don't ... just as it is in the offline world.

I think they are referring to a conversation between Frank and myself. However I certainly did not say that Frank was raping the people. I do recall saying that BIG OIL was raping the american people. If this instance occurred in another conversation, and I was not involved, I apologise for the intrusion.  ;)

EXACTLY INDY!!!! That is so true. It's just "silly" to think there needs to be justification for the selection of a screen name.
---------------------

Ya'll take yourselves much too seriously.  Life is way too short for that.  The Forum is a free exchange of words, ideas and opinions isn't it?  Good, bad, and indifferent.  There will be intelligent input, stupid input, silly input, informative input, happy and sad input.  I hope there's a dash of common sense tempered with a bit of humor occasionally (thank you PEP).  We cover the whole gamut of emotions from sympathy, empathy, sarcasm to irony and beyond.  And which category the words and thoughts fall within are strictly within the mind and translation of each individual reader. Not much different than if we all sat down, face to face, at a round table to discuss the subjects posted here. Each one of us is a unique personality, each one of us has a unique style of communication.  I'm not going to like or agree with every word that is posted nor is everyone going to like or agree with everything I might post.  So what?!  That's life and what makes this world the interesting place it is.  I am like everyone else I like to know who is posting.  But if I don't know, in the grand scheme of life it isn't going to impact the course of my day.  I appreciate this forum because it is one more way to keep me connected to Elk County.  To me, Howard is home.   Everyone that posts here with any regularity, I don't care where you live...represents a slice of Elk County.  There is somethng to be learned from EVERYONE.

I resent the Flo commet about those of us that do not want people to know who we are. We pay taxes in Howard and own land and pay taxes on it. I and my sister think Howard on the whole if full of people fighing among them selfs and nothing is getting done. You are setting on this forum and not doing a thing about the betterment of Howard.
How many of you on this forum making comments pay taxes in the city or county. We pay taxes in both a I feel I can say anything I want with in the guide lines Teresa and Khelli  have set.
If Teresa says she will not tell, then that is the end of the subject.

She is also not afraid to say what she thinks where people know who she is, kinda like the rest of us  :P I don't live in elk county so I don't comment on stuff to do with Elk county. This is what we mean. If you do not go along with something you all become defensive, so why would any one want to let you know who they are if they go against the grain. As far as paying city and county taxs, we have not heard from them. We were there for the Festival and we know a lot of people and what we saw was a lot of people not talking to people they know. In fact we saw pepelect sitting by himself, we also saw Julie his wife and no one was going out of there way to talk to her and they have done a great service for Howard. Any one that does not go to the store and buy grocery or other things they need should buy from Walmart to we can keep China in the money. If Howard is going to grow they have to all get together instead of not getting along.

I believe the whole point of the original post was why people "make up" names to say things that they don't have the balls to say under their real names.  That only goes to show their character.  I have had experiences before with drama queens that just wanna keep the s*** stirred up, but with 2 names they can play both sides of the fence.  Is it gutless????  yes it is.  But they have to live with themselves, not me, so more power to em.  I have had people upset with me for stating my opinion in a forum before, with them knowing full well who I was, but I have yet to be typed to death or slapped with a keyboard over the internet, so they can be as nasty as they want.  Like I said, just shows a person's true character.

I think they are just chicken.  Spineless as jellyfish.  Hiding behind the fact that no one knows who they are allows them to say things that they would not say if they were across the table.  If you put actual thought in to something, come up with something positive, and then want to be anomimus then more power to you.  But if you just want to rant under a second name, then grow up.  It not only shows your lack of character but lack of maturity.

I really love the fact that we still start threads to gripe about threads started here on the forum.  By griping you are using the same communication tool that you could be using to do something to better the entire community not just nit picking at  the idiots.

Very Entertaining!  LOL
Not as much as Greetings and a few trying to figure out who is who by their user name.
I get a kick out of it.  Not being a Native of Elk Co.
That would take all the fun out of it !

No matter what catagory we go under don't we all learn a thing or two.
Sometimes the other guy/gal has a angle on the subject that the rest of us hasn't
looked at, and that makes us think a little.

So Thank You all for the insight, education, and local happenings.
I truely Enjoy the Elk County Forum! !
