Title: Why Are You a Republican/Democrat?
Post by: Wilma on July 31, 2008, 04:04:31 PM
I have been wondering why people are one or the other?  Republican or Democrat?  So I decided to analyze myself for an answer and guess what I found.

I am a Republican because my parents were and because Ike was.  You may ask Ike who?  You younger ones?  In my day Ike was the first 4 star general in the U. S. Army.  He won the second world war.  He was a hero.  He was also the 34th president of the United States.  He was the first president I was old enough to vote for and in those days you had to be 21 to vote.  You might be wondering now why his being a republican had anything to do with me being republican.  Well, after Truman had served the term he was elected to, the Democrats tried to get Ike to become a Democrat and run for president on the Democrat ticket.  He refused to change his politics and was nominated as a Republican to run for president and won.  That is why I have stayed Republican all of these years.

There are times when I have wished that I could vote the Democratic primary ticket, but not badly enough to get me to change my politics.  I don't know that my beliefs are strictly Republican, a lot of them lean towards the Democrats, but I can vote my beliefs at the general election and it doesn't make any difference what your party affiliation is then.

Wilma Ike was a 5 Star General. I am not going to touch the rest of that thread. I want to keep people guessing if I am a Democrat or a Republican.

Ike jumped overnight from Lt Col to one star in 1939. He then jumped to two, three, four, and five stars within five years.

Ike was the third five star general with George C Marshall being the first.

MacArthur was the second five star.

I am guessing the first four star general was John J. Pershing during WWI.

I'm neither,  i vote libertarian.  I only vote rep for presidential elections.  The democratic party today isn't the party it was.  It has been overrun by progressives who are communist in ecogroup clothing.   :(

I like your thinking, SR...I am a registered Independent, as I have stated before.  I have a deep distrust of anything that is too, too completely any one particular way or direction, whether it be politics or religion.  Anything that restricts our innate right and ability to question that 'authority' is in and of itself inherently wrong.  I have never voted a straight ticket...Never will.

Wilma picked the right party.  "I Like Ike!"  Good for you!

Hang it up, Frank... we all know you are a SUPER Republican (& a good Oil Man, also).  Good for you, too.

Hooray for SRKRUZICH or is it Steve.  No truer words were said about the (ugh) demo-nut party.  Totally Commie.

Come on, CatWomen... you know you're for McCain.  Don't be shy... spit it out.

Joanna.... quit flirting.  Steve's probably married and has 6 kids, 3cats and a couple of pit bulls.

For anybody else out there in WonderLand that is confused about whether they are Republican or demo-nut or... whatever...., here is a little quiz that came out in 2004 but asks all the right question pertaining to this election.  You might be surprised with your outcome.

I took your quiz Warph.........let's just say I think BOTH parties suck :P lol . I registered Democrat when I got old enough to vote because of learning about FDR and JFK. Truthfully I have no use for politicians period, I am of the group that is very tired of the vote for me cause I suck less than the other guy timbre of every campaign in the past years. I haven't seen a candidate I could get excited about in friggin years! There isn't any honor in our politicians anymore, no higher purpose, they all just want the power and the money for a long as they can hang on to it. Why should I vote for you just because you SAY the other guy is a schmuck? What are YOU gonna do different? For that matter what CAN you do different? It's like goin to a turkey shoot and endin up with a buzzard.

Obama The Patriot - Removes American Flag From His Plane

The Patriot Room
Posted on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 8:11:07 AM by Bill Dupray

Barack Obama recently finished a $500,000 total overhaul of his 757. And as part of the new design, he decided to remove the American flag from the tail...

What American running for President of the United States would remove the symbol of his country? And worse, he replaced the flag  with a symbol of himself... Obama is such a despicable human being.

This is  our country and our flag & I think this is a disgrace.

.  If Obama is elected president of the United States we are in trouble.  If you think the Liberals can lead our country just look what Pelosi and Reid have accomplished for us.

Good Morning Jo and Fred, I saw the news article on this and frankly I wasn't surprised . This is the same man that did not honor the flag during the National Anthem. I see nothing but bad for the future of America coming from this man. When I look at his background his mentors, his Minister and the actions and words by his wife, I am truly scared of the future when someone like him ends up as a candidate for the office of President of the United States. HAVE A GREAT DAY
P.S. I sure wish we could get Colin Powell to run as a Write-in.

If IKE won the war, then what were all those thousands and thousands of US SERVICEMEN doing over there? Just admiring the scenery?  Sorry, I don't agree with you.

I was there, Flo.  Where were you?

Yes, I know, Flo, that Ike didn't win the war singlehanded.  I had cousins and uncles in the service.  Fortunately, all of mine came home.   My father was too old, my brothers too young.  Your father was just the right age and you were actually more involved than I was although too young to remember any of it.  Ours was the age of patriotism.  The U. S. was at war so all citizens were involved.  Today, the war hardly touches anyone not directly involved.  Patriotism is just something that is talked about.  You and I know what it really is.

Jo, that very ticket and the fact that so many people have expressed their wishes that Colin Powell were running for President certainly nullifies Obama's complaint or comments that McCain and the Republicans are trying to use race against him. It is not race at all, every person, Democrat or Republican that I have talked to has said they would vote for Colin Powell (Period). Obama is not a Colin Powell, and race has nothing to do with it. There should be some way the Republicans could use that, I think I will call Republican Headquarters and talk to someone I know of there. It could have some value.

The flag symbol was removed from the plane and replaced by the Obama campaign symbol because the presidents' plane has a flag on the tail and the door. A very large portion of the original article was omitted from this posting trying to make Senator Obama appear to be unamerican. Had he left the flag symbols on the tail and the door, he would have been criticised as trying to appear too presidential. Just another cheap shot from somebody and passed on by somebody else.

What  unbeatable ticket a McCain and Colin Powell ticket would be. I am sure that Colin Powell wouldn't accept the VP Nomination if it was offered but that would be a tough ticket and one that would move the middle of the road and undecided vote to the right.

Warph, I took yours and several others that have been posted here. I also, took some that I found. How come none of them have my exact answer to the question. I think they are all flawed. I have come out liberal, Neo-Liberal, Centrist, Anarchist, and aligned with Colin Powell. I'll take centrist and Colin Powell. I know I am Liberal on several topics but I like small government, free market capitalism, and individual rights. I thought that was Republican. I guess some of that California liberalism is bound to seep in after all these years since we only have Democrats running in my area. I will take the middle road and vote for what I think is best for me and the country. Maybe I am a liberal Republican or a Regan Democrat, I hate labels. Maybe I am an Anarchist???????

GreatGuns, a good and sensible answer. I register for the same reason. I take my voting rights very serious and I have never missed voting in my life. Being registered a Democrat or a Republican has nothing to do with your voting in the General Election , not being registered just keeps you from voting in the primary election.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought N.J., Nebraska and several other states held open primaries where any one can vote in the primaries, including Independents.
Title: Re: Why Are You a Republican/Democrat?
Post by: frawin on August 02, 2008, 11:17:48 AM
Diane, I am only familiar with the states I have lived and voted in, Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. The principle, as I understand it,  in having to register for the Primary is to keep people from voting for the weakest candidate that would be opposing the candidate that you want to win in the general election. I am not sure I worded that the best, but I am pretty sure you get my point.
Title: Re: Why Are You a Republican/Democrat?
Post by: sixdogsmom on August 02, 2008, 11:19:39 AM
Not being registered keeps you from voting iin any election in the state of Kansas. You only have to declare party in a primary, and yes Diane I think there are some states that have open primaries.
Title: Re: Why Are You a Republican/Democrat?
Post by: greatguns on August 02, 2008, 01:03:03 PM
I believe that only in the last election the state of Kansas held the democrats let the independents vote in the primary and the republicans did not.  That was a first in this great state that I know of.

I am posting this in the name of "Political Humor"
Now after you read this -- if you want me, I will be standing over by the hay stack - waiting for the "firing Squad"   lol       Welcome to the Great Barnyard

Once upon a time, on a  farm in Virginia  (just outside D.C.), there was a little red
hen who scratched about the barnyard until she uncovered quite a
  few grains of wheat.

She called all of her Democrat neighbors together and said, 'If
we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me
  plant it?'

  'Not I,' said the cow.

  'Not I,' said the duck.

  'Not I,' said the pig.

  'Not I,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so
she did. The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

'Who will help me reap my wheat?' asked the little red hen.

  'Not I,' said the duck..

'Out of my classification,' said the pig.

'I'd lose my seniority,' said the cow.

'I'd lose my unemployment compensation,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so
  she did.

At last it came time to bake the bread.

'Who will help me bake the bread?' asked the little red hen.

'That would be overtime for me,' said the cow.

'I'd lose my welfare benefits,' said the duck.

'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig.

'If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination,' said the
  goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors
to see./ / They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But
the little red hen said, 'No, I shall eat all five loaves.'

'Excess profits!' cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)

'Capitalist leech!' screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

'I demand equal rights!' yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)

And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around
and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen,
'You must/ /not be so greedy.'

'But I earned the bread,' said the little red hen.

  * 'Exactly,' said Barack the farmer. 'That is what makes our
free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn
as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the
productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those
  who are lazy and idle.'*

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen,
who smiled and clucked, 'I am grateful, for now I truly understand.'

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never
again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread
free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.

Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no
one cared...so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' w ere
  paying for.

  EPILOGUE

Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs.

Hillary got $8 million for hers.

That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who for
eight years, repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't
  remember anything.

IS THIS A GREAT BARNYARD OR WHAT?

It could happen!!!

Much is made of McCain's age. Has anyone brought up the fact that Obama smokes and both of his parents died at an early age. Plus Biden has had two brain aneurysms which could have killed him. If they both died while in office; that would leave Nancy Pelosi as president. :o :o :o :o :o :o

I can't think of a better reason to vote for McCain & Palin. ;D
