Obama is not a muslim, period. Barack Obama is a Christian man who is raising a family in a Christian manner. Why are you afraid of a United States Senator? A man who has sworn to uphold the constitution of the United States? I have known Muslim Men. I have known Muslim women. I have known Bhuddist men, and I have known Bhuddist women. The scariest people that I have known are people who claim to be Christian and trash everyone else simply because of religion, color or country of origin. Unless we are Native American, we are interlopers on this continent. We are blessed to have our society and blessed to have our process to elect our leaders, but race, religion or creed have nothing to do with it. God bless America!
Shouldn't we be judging Obama by what he is and not by what his relatives are? After all, we can't choose our relatives. If we could I would be the only child of Bill Gates. We can choose our associates and Obama has discarded some of his associates for the extremist things they have said and continue saying. This is not saying that I am voting for Obama, just that I believe nothing that I hear and only half of what I see.
Catwoman, you can stay on your soap box as long as you like. I like your way of thinking and you can certainly present it in a way that can be understood.
Wilma, I have always told my parents that I have taught for (over these many years!) that I will believe 15% of what their children tell me at school if they will believe 15% of what their child tells them at home. I usually get a stunned look and then a giggle as they agree to do so. And, no, I'm off of my soapbox...at least for now, right? (lol)
Catwoman, your soapbox sounds like a winner to me lol
Wilma, you are so right! Issues have hardly been touched at all in this forum, just rumors, namecalling and out and out lies. I cannot believe so many are 'against' and are not 'for' anything. I have challenged many times for someone to please please say who they are 'for', and this place remains silent as a tomb. And catwoman, I agree that your writing is superb, and thank you for posting.
sisdogsmom, I beg to differ with you. I, among others, have stated very plainly their standing on this election. Want to know who I'm for, okay I'll tell you. NEITHER OF THEM
Flo, would you make that a little plainer.
Frank
sure - not a problem.
NEITHER OF THEM
Lol Sixdog, I'm against Obama because he doesn't have the experience to deal realistically with a war like the one we are in. I'm for Obama because he is a change from the present status quo.
I'm for McCain because he DOES have the experience to deal with this was in a realistic fashion, I'm against McCain because he is just four more years of the same thing.
Other than that I can't tell you what I'm gonna do on votin day because I probly won't know till I walk in the booth!
Besides that, I don't listen to what they say about what they "are going to do" when they are elected because most of it is BS lol
Obama is a great speechifier, McCain is kinda wobbly on that. Obama is very charismatic, McCain kinda comes off as a goober sometimes. Obama doesn't have the solidness that McCain appears to have. Just bein a good talker doesn't mean he'll make a good president tho. Snakeoil salesmen are good talkers too.
Just havin the solid appearance of your grandpa doesn't mean McCain will make a good president either. You have to have a little bit of snakeoil salesman in ya to get anywhere in politics.
Obama seems kind of condescending at times.
Obama seems idealistic, but idealism gets popped pretty quick when you are dealin with the "real" world.
Obama can get people fired up but that doesn't win wars or save lives or deal with rogue countries.
McCain has been there done that but that doesn't mean he can do it again. We lost his war.
McCain just plods along like an old workhorse but that don't mean he can pull the plow so to speak.
Anyway that's where I am in MY thinkin, what about the rest of ya?
I would like to express my feelings on OBAMA but I already to tried to ask SDM a question on him, that I was truly interested in her answer and did not want to make her mad with. The results were very disappointing and if I said what I think of OBAMA and his liberal, Far left Socialistic ideas and values she would be even madder so I will just say nothing.
Frank
Now if we could just find a guy (or woman) with McCains experience, Obamas idealism.....................................That would be a candidate to vote for!
Pam, OBAMA's IDEALISM????????????????????? is not what this country was founded on and what our forefathers wanted for them and their descendants. What idealisms are you talking about.
Frank
Pam that sounds like Colin Powell. Anytime he has been asked about running for President he gives a little chuckle and basically says no way. So we will have to vote for one of the two that we have been given\chosen.
David
David, I would love to see Colin Powell run, I think he would be an excellent President in everyway. In the conversations I have had with so many people that are totally opposed to Obama , I like to ask them how they feel about Colin Powell and I have never had one single person sau that they were not for Colin Powell, that is why I do not think the people that are so adamantly opposed to Obama are opposed to him because of race. In my opinion race is not the issue, it his ideas, his disrespect for the flag, his socialistic views and what I think he will do to this country.
Frank
Pam, I like your comparisons of the two major candidates! I got such a huge grin as I read it...and yes, if you're going to send someone into that barrel of snakes that is DC, you better have elected the biggest snake going in order for anything to get done...but didn't Hillary already lose the nomination? (Aw, come on now, people...just kidding!)
lol, Catwoman. Frank, There is absolutely nothin wrong with a little idealism, wishin the world was a better more equal place. My ideal candidate is neither conservative nor liberal but openminded enough to recognize good ideas whereever they come from. I don't know what's in Obamas heart neither do you or anybody else but him. That is true of any candidate, only they know what their true agenda is. This whole election process is basically a blindfolded turkey shoot, hopin you get the turkey and not a buzzard :P The people who would make good presidents don't want to BE president.
That is the very reason why they would make a good president...they're not seeking the position to begin with.
What? The founding fathers were not idealistic? Youre' kidding, right? The whole shebang is idealistic from the get-go. This democracy so different than what had been before. Jefferson and Franklin, two of the most idealistic thinkers of their time. The very idea of the constitution and the bill of rights is idealistic, and far from realistic in the time of our founding fathers. Oh My!

SDM, Websters defines Idealism as "Behavior or thought based on a conception of things as they should be or as one would wish them to be". I am quite positive that our forefathers I dealisms were not what Obama's Idealisms are and that is what I was referring to. Our forefathers did not believe in taxing those that work hard to have something, so they could take it away and give to those that are able bodied but do not want to work and earn it. The list could go on and on but I will drop it at that. The democratic platform has always leaned towards socialism and Obama is no exception,.
Frank
When this country was born, there was no income tax. I don't believe in a free lunch either, but I do not think this country should be run on the backs of the middle class and the poor. People making excess profit are unfairly taxing the middle class and the poor with inflated costs for required goods. This has occurred recently in both the energy markets and the real estate markets. Wealthy people should pay into the social security system just as everyone else does; there should not be a cap. I do not believe in welfare for the wealthy, and neither does Barack Obama. That is not socialism, that is idealism. The list could go on and on.
I KNOW this is gonna get me in trouble but I'm gonna say it anyway cause it's true. The tax cut they want to do away with is for the TOP income brackets and the people in those income brackets don't do the work that earns the money, people like me and you and all the other lower and lower middle income people do the work that supports them in the manner to which they have become accustomed. They should pay their fair share based on their income just like everybody else.
Pam, who do you think provides the Capital and takes the risk to provide people the jobs. As an example, the Democrats are wanting to Tax the Oil Companies more and yet they want the oil companies to spend more. The success of the Industrial Revolution in this country was due to the risk and investment by people like Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and others, that coupled with the work ethics of the American people.

During this political season let's be reminded of these wise words.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
Rev WM Boetcker
i pay taxes on the money I get paid for doing the work. I pay tax on buying the stuff. I pay tax for owning the stuff. This isn't about destroying the rich, this is about them paying the tax on what they get just like us chickens do.
The Corporations and the "so-called Rich" pay their fair share, you have been listeninng to the Liberal Left News Media and the Democrats to much. Take the time to read some of the Annual Reports of America's companies, people keep complaining about Exxon's earnings and they have no idea or don't seem to care what Exxon's expenditures are, what their risks are, the long payouts that projects take. If this country is to ever have any kind of energy security or independence it will be due to the American Oil industry, all levels of it, not due to the Government.
Frank
Dude I'm not pickin out the oil companies you are, there is more to the american economy than oil companies for cripes sake.Just because I'm not rich doesn't mean I don't know about tax-breaks and loopholes. I don't care HOW much money anybody makes but me. Pay the taxes on it is all I'm sayin and if you don't get that I'm sorry.
I listen to both sides and like I said before the truth is ALWAYS somewhere in the middle. The liberals are not big boogymen any more than the hard conservatives are. Actually I think they both exist to show people of reason where the truth DOES lie. Both sides need to peek out from behind the barricades and see that the other side are just people with a different idea.
the only "fair" way to pay income tax is for EVERYONE to pay 10% of their annual earnings, regardless of who you are or what your income is, no deductions, no loopholes, no credits, no nothing, just 10% period.
Flo, sounds good, I don't know of anything that would stop investment in marginal projects any quicker than a tax like that. Why would anyone, corporation or individual take the risk on a marginal project if they were no tax breaks to do it. The flat tax has some merit, but i don't think it will work if there are no deductions for high risk projects.
Frank
people used to take risks because they had an idea they were willin to back up with their own money because they believed in that idea not because the government made it profitable to take a risk.
Frank, sorry but this is not a quote from Abraham Lincoln.
