Title: Baby on board
Post by: W. Gray on April 27, 2008, 12:33:15 PM
From the Sedan Graphic, March 4, 1885,

The Fall River Echo says a child was born on one of the Frisco passenger trains between Fall River and Augusta the 8th. We know where Fall River is located, but where the d---l is Augusta the 8th.

Howard tried hard to get the Frisco line from Fall River but it went through Severy, instead.

Just a short piece of the Frisco ran in and out of the northeast corner of Elk County.

Wasn't Augusta the 8th a Roman emperor or something? ;D ;D ;D ;D

No, Augusta was British, changed his name to Henry when he became an adult...thought Augusta was too feminine to attract pretty girls. And he had plenty of them!!!  ;D

You both are probably thinking of Augusta Masters, he was from Georgia and had a lot of well-groomed acreage named after him? His wife took in ironing and used a nine iron almost exclusively.

His wife, though, had a problem.

She was not allowed on the acreage.

What did she use the nine iron on?

Wilma,

This was a spoof of the Augusta Masters National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia.

The nine iron was a reference to a golf club.

The club at Augusta Masters will not allow women members.

(They will allow a woman to play, though, if she is registered as a guest of a member)
