Title: Thanksgiving Menu
Post by: Tobina+1 on November 19, 2007, 04:27:05 PM
What are you having for Thanksgiving?

The menu at the Norris' this year (we're serving 11):
Spiral-cut honey glazed ham
3 racks of pork ribs (Chuck will grill them)
Refrigerator mashed potatoes
Broccoli and rice casserole
Apricot salad
Blackeye peas and rice
Cream-cheese corn
Stuffing
Rhodes rolls
Veggie tray
Layed pumpkin dessert
Dad's chocolate mousse pie (frozen) x 2 (it's pretty popular)
Lemon pie

It's my first time to serve Thanksgiving at my house, so I'm pretty excited!

Sounds good !!!  We here at the park in Texas have a huge Thanksgiving dinner.  We usually have about 100.  All who plan to attend sign up and then take their choice from the other sign up sheet as to what they prefer to bring.  The owner of the park furnishes  the turkeys - the camp host cook them, and then the rest of us bring on the rest of the goodies.  We give them selections to sign up for.  I personally am taking a Dilly Pea Salad and 2 carmel/coconut/pecan pies.  We have such good food and a wonderful fellowship time.
Wishing you all the happiest of happy Thanksgiving days .

We will have Thanksgiving Dinner at Inks Lake State Park.
My brother in law has a spit to roast a turkey over an open fire.
We will be baking all of the sides in Dutch Ovens.
It will be very fun.

I have no idea what's on the menu for Thanksgiving.  Youngest daughter wanted to bring it to me, so all I am doing is getting my house ready for company and making my version of Watergate salad.  This salad has become a tradition with my grandchildren as I used to have them help me make it.  Now it is easier to make it the day before.  It isn't so easy to have these adult grandchildren crowded around me waiting their turn at stirring or pouring or whatever.

;D I assume you are bringing the biscuits?  ;D

I am making Turkey, noodles, mashed potatoes, stuffing, glazed carrots and homemade bread, and whatever pie Kjell wants.
It is just Kjell and I ...as my family of men all go trout fishing over Thanksgiving.
And the girls go to their mothers/grandmothers house..
So actually it is really very nice and laid back...and I always look forward to it.

Christmas is wild and crazy..but it is supposed to be..  :D

Turkey
Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Sweet Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Cranberry Salad
Hot rolls
Pumpkin & Pecan Pie

Very traditional!  This is a "light" year for the number of our family being around the Thanksgiving dinner table, so we're not going "all out" on a lot of side dishes.

We do all have so much to be thankful for.

:-\ had to add to the menu.  It was pointed out to me that we ALWAYS have apple salad and that wasn't written down, Sooooooo, I said fine, you bring it.  ;D.  There are "family tradition" things that we always have such as scalloped oysters and fresh apple cake that we always had at Dad's before my step-mother passed away and now have at my house and the cabbage casserole that everyone always wants youngest daughter to bring and of course carrot cake that middle daughter started bringing 8 1/2 yrs. ago because that is Marvin's favorite.  There's definately gonna be plenty to eat and good company.

Yummy to all those menus!  My mom asked about the turkey, too, but none of us kids are huge fans like she is.  She'll do a turkey at Christmas; probably all the the same sides, though!  Usually, Chuck and I have Thanksgiving on our own since he has to feed cows that day and work on Friday.  We've got into the tradition of having ribs, because he has enough time to grill them.  Everyone thought it was a good idea, and since it IS at our house... that's why the blackeye peas and rice, too.  Things that Chuck grew up eating.  At least no collards or palm hearts!

I wonder if Flo's orange jello salad is a lot like my apricot jello salad?  Apricot pie filling and jello is harder to find, but our family likes the tartness.  Add some cool-whip, cottage cheese, and pineapple, and you've got a strange sounding salad that is AMAZING!  Almost more dessert-like.

Sounds like everyone is arriving tomorrow afternoon, so I hope the weather cooperates!  My parents have the farthest to drive, from NW KS (Atwood).  My brother who lives in Conneticut has been in KS for a week already, so he doesn't count.  My youngest brother and my sister and her son (7 months) will drive from Manhattan together... it should be an interesting trip, as the baby tends to SCREAM during car trips and we'll see how little bro handles it!  Ha!

This year for Thanksgiving I am making....reservations!. We are going to the Wesley House in nearby Maryland. They have a wonderful seafood buffet. They add all the traditional turkey things on Thanksgiving. So there will be turkey, stuffing, oyster stuffing, oysters several ways, clams and clam dishes, crab legs, blue crabs, crab cassreole, several kinds of shrimp dishes, scallops, fresh fish, stuffed mushrooms, a soup bar with several kinds of soups, including Maryland crab soup, a huge salad and bread bar and desserts of all kinds.
You could really hurt yourself at this place! :D :D :D

wonder if my family would miss me, cause I sure would like that seafood buffet Diane is talking about. ::) ::) My orange salad, however, is orange jello, crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, made with hot water the the drained fruit juices, topping is cooked, cooled and folded into cool-whip and spread on the jello, then topped with grated cheddar cheese.  Suppose you could leave the cheese off and use it as a dessert probably.  I use this salad at Thanksgiving because of the color.

For Thanksgiving all I have to do is wake, dress, and go to Mother's house.  I don't have to cook.  I don't have to bring anything.  YEAH.  When I was sheriff we would fix the entire works for the prisoners.  The trays would not hold everything.  We did that at Christmas, too.  I'm looking forward to see what the little sister brings.  I know she can cook because her kids will eat it, but I don't think I've ate too many things that she has done.  This will be a first time that she has done the dinner that I can remember.

I called Sandy Dunbar and she is coming for dinner and Kjell wants coconut creme pie.
I am so looking forward to the quiet time. We usually take a long walk and then play Rummicube .
Sounds boring to some, but as hectic as our lives are right now, it sounds like a little piece of heaven to me..

If anyone has to drive, please drive the speed limit, buckle up and watch the other cars on the roads.. Please be safe.

As usual, I won't cook a thing, but have plenty of places to be if I choose to go.  (I am not known for my culinary skills amongst my friends, Ha, ha).  They usually ask me to pick up the chips and ice.

WOW  !!!   I don't think any of our forum family will be hungry at the end of Thanksgiving day.  I must say though, that my wish would be that every hungry child in the whole world could sit down in front a heaping plate of hot tasty food like we have all been talking about, and just "dig in" and get really really full.  I always feel guilty because so very many have nothing, or very little.  The city of Corpus Christi, TX feed hundreds at Thanksgiving and Christmas......and the H E B food stores give and give to those dinners.  What a wonderful thing that is.

Now --- to finish this menu thread,  There are 4 huge turkeys thawing in the fridge at the clubhouse, and already 100 have signed up, and by tomorrow evening, I'm sure there will be many more.  Lots of things being signed up to bring.

My prayer is that there will be food on every plate in this nation.

                                         Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
