Isn'T THAT GREAT! tO USE THE MATERIALS INSTEAD OF HAULING THEM TO SOME LAND FILL!
Marcia,
I'm curious where you found this information. It's true that many of the structural materials in the former Church of Christ building were salvaged from other places (for instance, the interior wood doors have places where other hinges used to be), but Terrell and I were under the impression the church itself was built in 1944, not 1945. At least that's what we've been told from several folks.

I don't recall hearing about a specific time of year in 1944. Sounds like we've got a bit of a mystery on our hands, eh? LOL I've been meaning to get together with Juanita, but just haven't had the time. I wonder if she has saved newspaper clippings, etc., about the church's history. We'd love to have copies for our scrapbook. One thing is certain: we are only the second owners of the property, which is pretty cool!

Thank you for that info, Marcia. I'll contact her soon and maybe we can solve this mystery! Also, Terrell wants to know if you (or anyone else) has photos of the church from its early days. We'd love to have copies of those as well.

I'll tell you what I will do. Tomorrow, I will go to the library and see if I can find some micro film on the building of the church in 1944 or 1945. I'll let you know.

Oh Janet, that would be wonderful! Thank you so much, and I hope you find lots of good stuff!
You might contact Bill Nigh - and Carol. Bill has been a member of the Church of Christ for many, many years -
If he has any info he would be more than happy to share, I am sure.
Thanks, Jo, but we've spoken with the Nighs on a number of occasions. In fact, I think they had told us the building date was 1944.
Okay. Here is what I found so far. All from the Howard Courant-Citizen. I quit after the December 6, 1945 news. All of this information came from the weekly church news that was put in the paper. The Church of Christ, Fiat and Howard, were not very faithful about putting news in every week. Six or seven weeks would go by without a word, then all of a sudden, in the list of church news, the Church of Christ would tell about services. Anyway, that's what I have so far. If I'm not working the week of Oct. 8th, I'll look after December 1945. By the way, the war was over in 1945. I did find that.

Janet, you are awesome! Thank you SO much. You should be awarded some sort of medal -- or at least a double latte -- for your diligent detective work.
Welcome.
