I wouldn't mind putting the events on the forum. I will see what I can do about that.

Shirley gets on this forum ..but only as a lurker.. I can't seem to get her to join in and post.. but it would be nice if she would ..that way she could share all the things that she does..and keep us informed better of the Howard stuff. :)

Shirley is quite busy right now, as a mother, medical professional, business owner and civic leader.

Plus, she's preparing to send her husband off to Afghanistan in the not-too-distant future.

So, if she's lurking ... hi, Shirley!  You're appreciated.  It takes all of us working together to create an
informed community.  The forum is playing a fine part of that process, and hopefully our little newspaper
plays an important role, too.

We're living in a more complex society than ever before. It means that we get our information from a
variety of sources, but it requires some flexibility and "change" in the way we view the process.

Very well said Rudy. Thank you.
There are many in Howard who do wonderful civic work. It takes more than one to accomplish tasks and I am afraid I am guilty of not having the time to be much help sometimes.
But hopefully bringing the forum to Elk County has taken off a few of my black marks.. LOL

Now if that isn't a deliberate advertising plug, I don't know what is..  ;D

But they DO make  awesome chili! So it is probably to your benefit to go and have them dip you up some. Better not be at the back of the line though, cause you might miss out.
Their chili goes fast, and people come back for more.

There are several fun events and I will see if Ashley and I can't win a cake this year in the cake walk. We walked and walked and walked last year until we were dizzy and never won anything.. So we got tired and left.
Then her Mama ( Teri) walks up ..takes Ash and puts in her measly quarter and bingo.,. she wins some cupcakes!
I donated a cake... and I spent enough quarters to buy 3 cakes.. and got zip!  :P

But this year will be different. I feel the luck swirling around me.  ;D

This is a one-time a year festival.  There are some craft booth's that sell different items, a chili cookoff, an Ice-Cream freeze or contest, pancake race, hay bale decorating contest, large parade, kids games, cake walk, pet contest, karoke, and it ends with a large dinner and entertainment.  This year it is the (famous?) Prairie Rose Wranglers!! http://www.prairierosechuckwagon.com/wrangler.htm

It is usually very well organized and attended.  It is very family oriented and there is a little bit of something for everyone.

Yep.. Danny's right. It is kinda a laid back event..
I have heard the Prairie Rose Wranglers and they play old time western music.. like campfire songs and just good toe tappin' music.

My family will be there for a short while.  We plan on watching the parade.  If you see us come by and meet my wife and our baby Drew.

See you there.

Oh, too bad you didn't find any of us... there were quite a few lurking about the festival on Saturday.  Believe it or not, most of us don't look like computer geeks that spend all this time in a dark room on the computer... well, "SOME" of us, anyway.  (And you wonder why I don't have a picture posted...)  I was actually able to soak up some sun on Saturday sitting at my booth!   8)  Maybe at the next community event we can have an arranged meeting time and place to put faces to the forum names!

How did the sales go at your craft booth?

Oh, Jody.  I'm sorry that I didn't see you.  I managed to make the parade, eat at Poplar's, go to the courthouse lawn, and even bought a few things.  Just ask Tobina.  Tobina's little booth was cute with some really cute cards, stationary, letter notebooks, etc.  Loved it.  I even bought something from the step-daughter's food booth.  ha  I saw Sam Blackard and family at the parade.  He has one of the cutest 4 month old boy around.  However; I would pit my great-nephew, Garret, who is also 4 months old, against any baby around.  LOL.

By the way, Sam, my niece Teresa Gallardo Usry, the mother of Garret, thought she saw you and your family, but she wasn't sure, so she didn't say anything.  She's kind of shy.  Not like Aunt Janet at all.

Especially Henry and I ha ha'ing with each other.

( I do love flirting and talking to that Henry  ;D )

I was there but had my hand and eye on a camera all day long.
I want to make a short video , but I swear I don't know when I will have time. We just got home from Wichita and I am getting ready to go to bed.
A load of lumber will arrive in the morning for the deck on the house..and I have to dig up lots of bushes and plants and transplant them,. Wish Mason was old enough to shovel.. hahaha
Then tomorrow night we will start masking off and painting the inside rooms..

The slide show and video ?? Who knows when I will get to it..  :-\.
But Danny and Derek Cookson did win the tasters choice and the peoples choice for their chili. They made 2 big batches this year and run out and was turning people away.
I hate chili so I can't tell you if any of them were good .. LOL
But they all sure did smell yummy.

My craft booth sales went really well, thanks for asking!  I did note in my Classifieds ad section that I do have a few things left, as does Chuck, and I also have many cards left, too.  So get your Christmas shopping done early and give me a call!

It seemed like there was a lot of the booths that did well.  The Interior designs lady from Indy next to me did a lot of business, it seemed.  As did the gal with all the food and canned items; that's where my craving for Jalepeno jelly and some more of that yummy bread came from!  I didn't make it down the line to see how everyone else fared.  I even missed the gals with the jewlery who were just 2 booths away!  Are they from Howard?

I can't answer that.  I didn't know them.  I thought their jewelry was fantastic.  Would have liked to have bought something, but I bought these two little cards and some jalepeno jelly instead.  ha ha
