Title: Wireless Hot Spots Howard, Moline, etc.
Post by: Roma Jean Turner on September 17, 2007, 09:16:53 PM
I think we may have talked about this, but can't find it.  I know the Silver Bell in Longton where I will be staying Friday night doesn't have any internet.  Is there some place in Howard, Moline or Longton that does have wireless so I can check my e-mail?  If no ones knows of any place, maybe I can slowly cruise up and down the streets with the laptop on and see if I pick up anything........... :police:  That might look suspicious from an out of state car. Ha, ha. Thanks

The high school has wireless - but I don't know if it's blocked outside the building. Haven't tried it.

We've got wireless - and are catty-corner from the park. Don't know how far out ours extends.
Our laptop is temporarily loaned out, otherwise I'd try it.

Does the library have wireless?

If you see a white Buick parked in your drive way, it's probably me. :D  I have been told that a lot of them extend out about 100-300feet.  If you don't need a password to get on the network, then anyone can access it if they are in the range.  The libraries here in town used to just leave their wireless on all night and never thought anything about it.  Then the police contacted them and asked them to shut it off when the library closed because they were finding so many people parked in their cars in the middle of the night in the library parking lots, that they were afraid it could lead to trouble.  The UPS stores here all have them and usually you can just sit in the car and access them.  Thanks for the info.

Roma,

I have wireless and you can sit in my driveway all you want.  I have tried it and it works.  I live close to the park also. And the library does not have wireless the last I knew.  Also, I know of a couple of places that also have wireless here in Howard, and I can tell you or show this Saturday when you are here. Better not release their name at this time.  See you Saturday.

Roma, while you are in Longton you may use mine if you would like.
I am at Longton Housing in apartment number 9.....Gwen can direct you.
If you are here in daytime.......1 to 5 on Friday..........the library has 3 computers you
could use.
Just drop in if you want. I should be home.

Not sure about the get-together. My nephew died yesterday and if they schedule the funeral for Saturday I will
attempt to go to it. Have a save trip.
Hugs and God bless

My nephew died yesterday

Judy, I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your nephew.  Did he live in Topeka?

No Bonnie, Steven lived in Independence.
He was the son of my ex's brother and wife.........and was one year old when
Bob and I married.

He was 46 and from what Robyn said had a bad cut on his leg and got a very bad infection.

Me being an ex I have to ask lots of questions about  the family and still don't hear it all.

Ron and Phyllis live in the 600 block of South Ninth and their house was in the middle of all that water and Phyllis has been in and out of the hospital for the past year or so.

I will go to the funeral. Steven and I were close when he was a boy and until we became ex's all was  well.

I can never figure how when you and hubby can't get along why all the families take sides and all of  that. I still consider them family and will always.

the last time I saw Steven he and his younger brother were helping clean out the basement of the house that was flooded.
He never snubbed me......
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers; I do hope your trip was fun, Bonnie. Don't know if you heard but Wilbur Bright passed away.
His obit was in tonights paper.
Glad you are home.......Hugs and God bless

I hadn't heard that Wilbur Bright passed away.  He was Willard's twin brother, they were both at Mother's 100th. birthday party.  I'm sure that's very hard for Willard.  I saw their brother, Russell, at the Hale Homecoming the first Sunday of this past June.

It's really sad about your nephew's death.

The cousin we visited in Tennessee, Joe Elmore, has been divorced, and he's been married to Diane, his "current" wife, for 22 years.  Joe's first wife was "awarded" the home that Joe had built, in the divorce.  She's remarried, and Joe said he gets along very well with his "husband-in-law."  I'd never heard that expression before!
