So, where do you think Hide Out School was located? (Besides south of Fall River.)

Now, that is cool. Who would have thought of hiding a school house around the bend, over the creek, in the hill? LOL
Do any photos exist on the school house?

Do you know who has the photos?? I would like to see the photos posted.
It would be interesting to talk to Agnes Miller. Her first school was High Hill - she was my second grade teacher and she roomed at Albert and Violet Bantz's home. I wonder if Rex would know what her wages were at that time? If my memory serves me correctly..the school board was Roy Workman [my uncle] Albert Bantz and Walter Webster. Our High Hill school was located south of the Busby Road at the corner where the Neises (sp?) ranch is. I started to school there. There is still some of the rock formation left.

That would be nice, Marcia. We lived 2 1/2 miles from school and my brother and I walked every day - until really cold winter and then we rode a blind mare to school. Her name was Dolly and one day as we were going I started to sing The Old Gray Mare Ain't What She Used To Be and my brother said, "Please don't sing that, Jodi, Dolly can hear you". So I quit singing.

Marcia, since we have not lived in Elk County since the road names have been put in use, the only directions that I can give you are,
from Highway 99..... it is 4 miles east on the Busby road and one mile south, on the northwest corner of that intersection.
I have no clue as to the names of the roads. Granston Chapel ????? I have NO IDEA -- in fact, I have never heard of it. Are you sure it was in that school district? Was it north of the Busby road, maybe?
Now I am wondering if this is the same school where my husband started. He took me past it once and it was east of Howard and on the northwest corner of an intersection. There wasn't anything there then except rocks. He couldn't remember the name of it. Jo, do you know if any Weyrauchs went to school there? He would have started about 1933, give or take a year.
Yes, Wilma, Elizabeth and I were in the same class. How much older was Jim than Elizabeth? Or was he younger?
So he did go to school at High Hill.
Wilma, did Jim happen to mention the teacher's name? Ruth Bell Scott was my teacher that year.
Now -- another question...Was Ruth Bell Scott Pat Harrod's Mother?
Jim was 3 years older than Liz and Mary was between them. This is kind of funny and is off the subject, but: I never had a little sister. I am a little sister and my big sister was so perfect that I wanted to be a big sister. So when I met Elizabeth, she was a class behind me in school and I assumed she was younger than I was. When Jim and I were married I thought I had become a big sister to Elizabeth. It turns out that she is actually 2 days older than I am. It isn't fair, she always looks so much younger than I do. Just another of my life's ambitions that had to be scratched.
Just read your last post. No, Jim didn't remember the teacher's name either. Maybe Elizabeth does.

Marcia, what would we do without you?

Dorothy Buffalow is my aunt and is still living. She was 92 in April. She is still pretty sharp, and may know the answer to some of the questions. She and Margaret Gragg graduated from high school in the same class. Aunt Dorothy lived with Walt and Deena Drury. Aunt Dorothy was engaged to my uncle and got sick, so he filled in for her one time and stayed at the Drury's too! Deena always had lots of cats and one got on the table, which was to my uncle's dismay. He proceeded to get the cat off of the table. Guess, the families wondered if Aunt Dorothy would lose her boarding house, but Deena took her back after she recovered. Actually, the Drury's were very nice people. I seem to remember that she often wore purple.

Ruth Bell Scott was not Pat Harrod's mother. Her mother's name is Dorothy Scott.

Thank you Marcia for posting that. I just love these old photos...
You can certainly tell that one is Kenny Butler.
