Title: How was your day?
Post by: Joanna on August 26, 2007, 05:33:47 PM
Well, (Rudy & Wilma & All...) since you ASKed to hear about the mundane, here's what's going on in my life right now...

Today I watched lots of my eBay auctions end that I've spent the last couple weeks listing.  Some went really well, some poorly, and some not at all.  Ha!  I'm selling my science fiction / fantasy book collection.  Since we've moved, I've decided there are a LOT of things I don't have to own to enjoy, and these take up tons of space.  The auctions will be finishing up this week, then I can decide what to do with the ones that didn't sell.

I figured out this week how to print postage here at home, so don't have to make Carolyn devote half an hour every morning to weighing & measuring my stuff at the post office.  It was a little scary at first, but so easy now I wonder why I didn't do it ages ago!

Brother-in-law Scott came in for coffee this morning with his grandson Evan, who isn't quite 2 yet. That baby boy is a joy to be around. He's a rough & ready kid that is interested in everything... and we discovered that we definitely don't have our house child-proofed! He's so fun to watch, but I know he'd wear me out if I spent more than a few hours with him.  I love seeing him when he vists though; and he loves to watch Clay's fish in the aquarium and play keep-away with our dog Squirt.

Marty's started a week's vacation today.  He's cleaning out the garage.  Wow! It's amazing what a few hour can do.  I think we'll be able to find things again!  Hurray!  Later this week he's headed to Denver for the Beer Can Collectors of America CANvention.  It is in a different city each year.  Last year it was in Kansas City and next year it's in Orlando.  Usually I go too ~ it's mostly guys but they all treat me like a princess so I get really spoiled.  I decided to stay home this year though, lots of things going on and I just don't care for the mountains.  I'm definitely going to Orlando next year, it's being held in a resort and I'm SO looking forward to that!

My pet peve for today is these cruddy house flies.  I have fly swatters in 3 rooms and I still can't get them all.  And when I'm poised and ready, the only place they'll land is on my hand or somewhere like that.  Ugh!  Ha!  If that's all I have to complain about today, I'm a very lucky gal.

Tonight I'm going to watch the movie DeJaVu that Chris & Dana loaned to me.  Probably Marty won't care for it, but how many times  have I watched the History Channel or Discovery Channel with him even though I was bored to a stupor.?.. Ha!  He'll probably play on the computer the whole time anyway.  I'd better sign off, Marty's out now hanging clothes on the line and then it'll be his turn on the computer ~ Did I get the best husband ever?  Ha!  I love this guy...

I can count my day more by what I didn't do than by what I did.  I didn't finish the dress I have been working on.  I didn't sweep the kitchen floor even tho it needs it.  I didn't do 2 loads of laundry that needed to be done.  I didn't cook dinner, but then I am not doing that any more anyway.  First daughter is cooking for me.  I didn't do much of anything, which reminds me, I haven't taken my evening Tylenol.  Gotta go do that.

Joanna,  I think Marty learned to hang clothes on the line from Jim.  Jim does the laundry.  Usually, all I have to do is fold and put away.  Now that I'm working and not wearing uniforms, I have to do ironing.  I don't mind doing ironing.  I can think about other things when I do that.

Okay, now here was my day.

Woke up and got ready for mass at Moline with the Catholic husband.  Went to mass, then stopped at Toot's for breakfast and visited with friends.  Came home and put dishes away, vacuumed (?) a couple of the rooms.  Went to youngest neice's house and picked up her two oldest kids.  Took them to church and Sunday School.  They are still learning the proper behavior in church, learning how to pray, etc.  They did fine.  I did not sit with the choir today as the boy had never been in church with me before, so I thought I should sit with him.  Got out of church, came home and fixed lunch.  Took a two hour nap while the husband went to the oil lease.  Since then I've just puttered around the house.  Hope everyone had a lazy day like me.

I really love Sundays!  I preached at both Elk Falls and Longton Methodist Churches, stayed for a short meeting at Longton, then headed back to Howard, just in time to get in on the tail end of the Howard church service.  I had a short meal with Mom 70 x 7 and her husband, Jim, then picked up 2 local pastors (I mean, I went to their homes and provided transportation) and traveled to Independence for meetings that lasted until 5:30 this evening.  Stopped to get a couple of things while in Independence and made it home by 7:00 p.m.  Full, full, satisfying day.  But I always panic when it gets to be late Sunday, cause the school week will begin soon and I have to be totally prepared.  There are no free minutes when you teach in a primary grade.  So.....this evening, I am trying to make sure I am ready to go..........Got a very full week ahead with meetings after school, volleyball games to work, etc.

I've had a busy few days, out in this part of the country.  Friday night, we attended a Blue Grass Festival over at Vista, a neighboring town, and it was great.  The U. S. Navy Country/Bluegrass band was the last band to perform, and it was "out of this world!"  Last evening, we attended a Sunday School class picnic on the lawn of our Church, and had a great meal and played "Bocce Ball"  It was fun, but my team didn't win!  This morning, something very unusual happened!  We had a thunder storm and received close to 2 inches of rain!  That about doubles the amount of rainfall we've had for this year!  It was a "million dollar" rain, as far as we're concerned!  It was a good start to the day, as today is our 59th. wedding anniversary!  Bob and I were married in the living room of Mother and Daddy's home in Longton.  I'll tell you, it doesn't seem like it was 59 years ago!  We drove to Church in the good old rain, we greet and Bob ushers at the 8:00 service, so we get there by 7:30.  Church was good, we're having a Bible study of the Book of Acts, and it's very interesting.  Then, Sunday School, we have a great class, about 45 or 50 of our friends are in our "BYKOTA" Sunday School class. (Be Ye Kind One Towards
A
nother.)  Then...we drove out to Valley Center to the home of our daughter and son-in-law (both daughters and sons-in-law live in the hills of Valley Center) and Karen had fixed a wonderful meal, ending with homemade ice cream and fresh baked blackberry cobbler!  THEN...she gave us our Anniversary gift, which is a wonderful "Memory Quilt" that she's pieced and had quilted.  It is just "grand!"  I tried to post a picture of it on here, but it didn't do it for me.  I'd selected pictures and printed them out on to fabric that's to be used for such things, and she did the rest, what a day!  I, too, love Sundays!

I am going to start out with yesterday.

We worked late Friday night so we slept till 8:30 Saturday morning, got up , had breakfast and headed to Olpie locker to pick up our processed beef. Then back home and unloaded the meat..loaded the freezer and got ready to go shootin'.
Mark, Danny, Derek, Jerald, Kjell and I all loaded up and went to Flint Oak to shoot sporting clays. Kjell wanted to film it all ..( to make a video)  so we were all loaded with shotguns and he was loaded with camera's.
We had a blast. Shot 100 rounds and although I came in last in the scoring.. Mark only beat me by 1, so I think I held my own pretty good.
The real test will be this next weekend in the dove field. :P
Came home and the kids wanted to go to Flint Oak and eat supper, so I said I would take Mason so they could have a nice dinner w/o a baby to tend to.
Kjell got 2 movies from Larry at the video store, and we had supper and watched them. I rocked Mason until he fell asleep and then I rocked him some more. He is so precious.

Today I got up , ate some breakfast and worked a bit on the computer.. Took my daily spiritual time and visit with God and the angels.
I have "my church" every day. I just don't go to a building to do it.  Figure God don't care where I talk to him..as long as I talk and he's part of my daily ritual. :)
Then we took a long walk, took the video's back, got 2 more. then ambled over to the Heritage house #2 and poked around there and bought Mason some more odds and end of toys to play and fiddle with. He is grabbing everything and just shaking the tar out of it and if it is hard he ends up whacking his head with it..and just cries.. So I bought him some soft toys that he can flop back and forth and if he hits himself with these, they won't hurt him.
Came home, I cooked round steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh green beans for supper.. ate...had a nap..watched a movie..and then we took another long walk until dark.
It was a quiet day.. Good thing, cause I have a hell of a week looking me in the eye.
But that's okay. Keeps me out of mischief..  ;D

Well, my day will seem pretty "dull" after reading all of yours.  As usual we got up at 6:30 - while I make the bed Fred makes the coffee, then while I got things started for breakfast he went to town and bought newpapers - an Independence Reporter and a Tulsa World.  While I was finishing cooking breakfast, Sherri called and I cooked, we visited, she wanted to know how I made my home canned tomato juice - so I cooked and instructed - then after breakfast and the kitchen was cleaned up - Fred went out and did the watering of the flowers- raking those hateful cottonwood leaves and tidied up the outside - while I tidied up the inside. I called Sherri back and we chatted some more - then like Teresa, I talk to God, not just on Sundays -- but just when ever I think I have something to tell him, knowing full well, he already knows it, but I talk just the same.  We always have lunch --and after that we usually read..sometimes not for long as we tend to "nod off" in our recliners -- I called my cousin Gene Workman and visited with Eva -Gene was resting - then I called my sister Helen, and we never know when to stop -- then it was time to think about what we were going to have for supper -- I made fresh french fries - a green salad - with our home grown veggies - and grilled ribeye steaks..Fred wanted to know if I wanted some butter pecan ice cream - and I was so full I could only shake my head "no".  A resident of the park came by and I took his money -- cleaned the kitchen AGAIN and now it is time to say nighty nite all.  Have a good week and be kind to yourselves.  I just sent Bonnie a Happy Anniversary greeting to her and Bob -- and she sent me a picture of the beautiful quilt -- it is truly lovely -- She and Bob have two beautiful daughters and a handsome son and much loved inlaws and  grandchildren.  They are great people - we are so proud to call them Friends!!!

my day yesterday was very uneventful.  Arose about 6:00 a.m. - had my coffee and morning news fix - showered then while my hair dried played through the songs for church on the organ, plus played a few more for my own enjoyment.  Visited with a daughter on the phone.  Attended church, came home, made a bite of lunch, done a load of laundry, wet-jetted the kitchen and laundry room, took an hour's nap, and that's about it.  Spent a couple hours reading the forum and played a few games of pogo.  There's how I chat with my younger sister, Susie.  Just fixed spaghetti for Marvin for supper so not a lot of clean-up there either.  Might add that that sweet little Evan that Joanna was talking about is my great-grandson and is a live-wire for sure and wouldn't have him any other way.  Now it is another day and will be going to work in about 15 minutes.  Have a wonderful day, all.

"Bonnie, congratulations on your anniversary. You must have been 10 when you two got marreid!  "

Somewhere around ten!

"Congratulations, also, Bonnie, on the anniversary.  And what a wonderful daughter-in-law.  You are truly blessed."

I need to say that it was our daughter, Karen (Crosslin) who made the quilt.  Her husband, was so pleased with the results, and we all cry when we're happy in our family, so he had the camera ready and probably got lots of good pictures of us "carrying on!"

Teresa, I wish we had some of your good beef!  Having our freezer full of our own good beef is certainly something we greatly miss, living out here.  And, rocking the baby to sleep is....."as good as it gets!"

Jo, I can imagine how beautiful it is around your place.  "Where the deer and the antelope roam!"

Have "another good day," you all!

My yesterday started with an Astros game!    My husband and I and his son all went to the game thanks to my brother David who gave us the tickets.  We got to watch them retire Bagwell's #5 Jersey and everyone got to boo the Astros' general manager.  He lost his job today along with the manager Garner.  After the game, my husband took me out to eat Pappa's Seafood  where I had the largest stuffed shrimp of my life.  I actually had two or three full popcorn shrimp in the stuffing of my big shrimp.  After that we went to my parents house for a short visit, then home to collapse on the couch.

I was sorry to see the Houston Texans let Bradlee Van Pelt go this past week.

Van Pelt was an outstanding Colorado State quarterback but just could not make it with the Broncos or the Texans.

My day today?  Left town just before 8:00 and arrived at the doctor's office an hour and half later.  Not bad for from Howard to Derby.  Had to wait half an hour to see him.  Had a good talk and decided it was time to remove a pin that had been put in my ankle 17 years ago.  He also explained to me how much prescription pain killer he would have to prescribe for me to get him in trouble.  Think I will stop worrying about that.  Came home with a new prescription for it.

Shopped my favorite Wal-Mart at Derby, went to Dillon's to get the only kitty litter that we can find that is flushable.  Visited my credit union, shopped Hobby Lobby.  Came home so tired that I swore never to go to Wichita again.  That will last about 2 weeks.  Doing nothing now except relaxing until bed time.  Hope your day was more satisfying.

[b I almost didn't write anything. My days are so much the same that if I tell what I did today all I would need to do is copy and paste it tomorrow.
Oh well, I did go to WalMarts today. I was out of a few things and knew I would be involved the rest of the week and I don't like going on a weekend... so I went this morning before it got to hot.

While at WalMarts I got a hair cut. (couple of weeks ago, I colored it........went from a salt and pepper color to a medium auburn.
Talk about a change. I almost don't know myself when I look in the mirror. LOL

so, I will stop looking in the mirror.

After I got back home, I spent time on computer doing my daily games and then got back into a book that I started Saturday. I will finish it before I go to bed.
While unloading the car I reinjured my sciatic nerve and it has been talking ever since. I did pop a couple of good size pills and will take more before I go to bed.

That is my day. Later this week there will be more to talk about.
I keep score for the Dyer Softball tournament here at Longton and that starts at 8 Saturday morning and will end Sunday night after the last game is played. We have 8 teams that must play each other round robin style..
More about this later.........I am heading back to my book.......Bedtime isn't that far off.

My weekend was busy as usual, didnt do much Friday after work because it was pouring rain, between friday evening and Saturday morning we got about 5 inches of rain here! Saturday i got up early drank my morning coffee and then headed to Rogers, AR  (about 10miles from here) and went shopping at Khols, they were having some fantastic sales and Im a clerance rack kinda girl. I then met my Daughter, son in law and 2 grandsons for breakfast at IHOP. Headed home and we decided to go to the Race Track in Siloam Springs for the evening. (stock car dirt track). That made for a long night. My son in law sold his car last season and is in the process of building another one for next year. Not partial or anything  LOL but I do have to say he is very talented when it comes to driving a race car and has won many feature races.  I kept the grankids over night on Sat. and on Sunday was able to do some swimming in the pool. Then spent rest of the day with the normal chasing after the grandkids, laundry & housework. They went home early afternoon and then Me & my husband made the weekly run to Wal-Mart for groceries, came home cooked dinner, cleaned up the mess and relaxed for awhile!!
Me & my Mom are flying out early Friday morning to Shreveport for a family reunion and will return home monday evening and then I will be taking a few extra vacation days from work (tues & weds. just to rest) another busy week ahead of me.

The main shrimp is about 2-3" long and it is butterflied (the tail is kept on).  Then they put a ball of crab and shrimp stuffing on top of the main shrimp where it is biutterflied (this ball was about 2" diameter). Then they batter the whole thing and fry it.  Mmmmmmmmmmm.  I love living on the coast!

Frank & I had a long day yesterday.  Drove to Lubbock (about 110 miles north of here) for appointments.  The weather was quite warm, but it was fun to see the crops.  Saw a big field of sunflowers, and of course, lots of cotton.  The cotton crops really look good this year.  We had so much rain early (very unusual) and they arae now beginning to irrigate.  The cotton is starting to bloom now.  There was also some very nice looking maize as well.

When we came back from Galveston a week ago, the cotton down around St. Lawrence looked really good too!  Some of it is dry-land cotton, and there was also some very good looking mazie.  The soil is better down that way, but there is a lot of Gernan descendants down that way and I must say, they are very good farmers.  The pecan orchards looked good too, very clean.  They were back off of the road far enough we couldn't tell about the crop.

Guess you can tell I'm a country girl.

Yesterday was fun. Marty was home from work and cleaned out even more of the garage.  Then he tuned up the lawnmower and sharpend the blades. Good thing too, I had apparently run the center out of a bearing and didn't even know it ~ I'd have probably started a fire next time I mowed if he hadn't caught it.  Mark at Cooksons had a replacement bearing though, so the mower is up and ready for me to abuse it some more now.

I hauled a load of packages to the Post Office of books that I'd sold on eBay.  Then borrowed my sister's steam cleaner and did our carpets.  Made a venison roast in the crock pot and we all pigged out for supper.  Squirt made a new friend, a cute little dog came over to play and he/she looks a lot like Squirt with a bobbed tail.  They got along great ~ she usually has a good time with other dogs, unless we go outdoors, then she thinks she has to chase them away for some reason.  Don't know if she doesn't want us to play with them, or if she thinks it's her job to keep them out of the yard when we are looking.  She's a funny little thing.  Anyway, we stayed inside and watched them through the window ~ almost as good as a movie.  :D

This morning Marty left for Denver with his friend Kirk, and they'll pick up Lonnie in Wichita on the way. Nephew Tony and I will keep busy scraping the house while he's gone... maybe...

There's a Chamber meeting at noon at Poplar's, and a Foundation meeting this evening.  Sometimes I think I'd like to get a full time job, but where would I find the time?  ???  ...  ;)  Just kidding, I owned & ran a business while raising 2 kids and keeping active in the community for years (Marty did help :)) ~ I know the time is there if you want and need it.  I'm getting a little spoiled right now with spare time, but I think I'll just enjoy it while it's here.   8)

Sounds wonderful.  May have to try that.  We do the salmon with a crab and shrimp stuffing.  Pretty tasty.  Somehow it always seems to taste better if someone else does the cooking.

That giant shrimp sounds good to me also. Sometimes I chop up shrimp and add to my crab cake mix too, very tasty. Years ago the shrimp boats would come in to the docks at the New Jersey shore and they would cook fresh whole shrimp in huge kettles right there on the docks. Yummy.

ask me about my day today !!  :D I was about the same as yesterday, EXCEPT I received a 5 page, hand written letter from a cousin I have not seen in 61 years.  I was 6 and she was 8.  Her dad and my dad were brothers and they lived in Idaho.  Only time I remember seeing any of them was when they all came home for Grandma and Grandpa Edwards' 50th wedding anniversary and that was in 1946.  Made my day, it did.  And how was yours?

Flo,
I keep wanting to ask how your job is going out at the high school?  Is it a challenge? I bet you have to keep eye open quite wide, huh?
I have 15 students this year in first grade (11 girls-4 boys).   We are doing routine, routine, routine before I do academics, academics, academics.  It goes so much smoother for me that way.  And everything connects back to respect for learning, others, and yourself.  It will take about 2-3 weeks before they truly buy into really trusting me, knowing me, and falling in love with me.  Then.....well, then......I can teach them just about anything.  Not to mention the fact, that there are far fewer discipline problems.  You don't want to disappoint someone you love,  you know?

Today was our 5th student day and following that I worked high school volleyball for about 4 hours.  Long day, tired, but good to see different aged kids.  Since I quit directing the high school plays and my own children have already graduated from high school, I don't get to see those young people quite as often......
So how was the next person's day?

My day was FANTASTIC!
We bought a house and we will be moving.
Closed the deal this morning.
Only looked a few days ago and moving was the last thing on our minds .. let alone buying something.
Sunday evening we were having our evening walk, and I saw some houses empty and mentioned I would like to see inside them.
So Monday, we just took the morning to look at a few houses that were for sale.. and the next day decided that this one was just waiting for us to give it some wonderful energy and personality. So we did it!  :D

It is a little house here in town  on S. Pennsylvania and although it isn't a whole lot bigger than what we have now,
it is still bigger and has the extra room we need to be able to get the office back in the house
and have a guest bedroom /massage room. We are so excited.
We should be totally in by November 1st and I hope to be able to start moving in a couple weeks. We are not going to stress too much ( yeahhh righhttttt) about trying to move real fast, as I have a 6 month old baby attached to my hip most of the days and we have our other work and I have massages that still need doing.. but I think since it's only a block and a half from this house it will be easy to move all my Indian stuff ( and I have A LOT) without wrapping it in paper, and making sure it is packed good before moving it..... yada yada yada...

The not so good part of my day was Mason went to the Dr and he has some ear infection and some congestion . Bless his heart. Rochelle has been so sick with this bad chest cold and Derek kinda started getting it, so it was inevitable that he would get it.
They put him on antibiotics and hopefully he will be good as new before long.
I have to share this picture of him (sitting in my fountain playing in the water)..
and also of Ashley and the ones with her mama and daddy..on her first day of school.( kindergarten)

I guess I should have put one up of Rochelle and Derek too. I'll do that later on when I take one of the 3 of them together.
Now really... don't I have a beautiful family?  :) I am so proud of all of them...

It's 1:35AM and I just got home after a 15 hours work marathon up at the office. T has already given you the scoop about us moving to another house, so all I can write about is just that looooong day at the office.  ;D

So here goes:
Video editing, video editing, video editing, phone calls, phone calls, phone calls....
coffee breaks, coffee breaks.... I think I had lunch, can't remember....

and then this evening it was uploading of content on Down Range TV and the Outdoor Channel web sites.

I got the job done and tomorrow I'll take the day off.

T made cookies today, so I reckon I'll treat myself with a glass of milk and some tasty samples....

Good night...

Congratulations on the new house!  As if you guys don't have enough creative juices flowing as it is, this will really kick them into overdrive.  I've owned my house for 8 years and ever new thing that gets done is exciting to me.  I often just sit on the porch and day dream about what I ultimately want to see here.   Our own personal canvases.

It's exciting news that you have a new home to move into.  I imagine you surprised "everybody," if you even surprised yourselves!

The amount of energy and the artistic abilities that the both of you have is truly amazing!

And, I loved the pictures of the baby, his sister and your son and daughter-in-law.  Families are "what it's all about!"

Have a great day!

The baby..( Mason is Derek and Rochelle's ) Derek is my youngest son..
Ashley belongs to Danny and Teri.. (the ones in the pictures) Danny is my oldest..
So even though they will be raised together in the same town and almost brother and sister.. they are still cousins.. ;D

Here is Mason's mama and daddy.

Teresa, I love the pictures!  Maybe I'll get in gear and post a few soon.  BTW, either you or Flo mentioned using lavendar oil in water to keep the mosquitoes off ~ is there a place here to get the oil, or do I need to go to some kind of specialty store? And could you remind me of the ratio?  I went through another can of OFF today and even though I don't like the smell, I don't like the mosquitoes more.  :P  Does the lavendar water work for you?  Maybe I should import some bats, I've heard they love mosquitoes!

Today I mostly worked on getting the garage & house ready to paint.  Pressure washed some, but most has to be hand scraped.  It's going to take me a while ~ partly because I'm slow and partly because I'm only doing the part I can reach while standing on the solid ground.  I'm not a tall person.  Ha!  The place is going to look like neopolitan icecream if I paint the bottom half and leave the top for someone else to do.  :-\ Well... maybe not neopolitan, because I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use pink, even though niece Courtney suggested it.  :-* She's REAL helpful...

I got the bottom half  ;D of the garage done today and started on the house.  Didn't get far, but then I'm not getting paid by the hour so there's no-one to complain but me, and I'm too tired & sore.  But I still feel like I had a good day. I hope you all had a great day too.

Joanna,
for the ratio look back at this thread..
http://www.cascity.com/howard/forum/index.php/topic,2901.0.html (http://www.cascity.com/howard/forum/index.php/topic,2901.0.html)

I did mix up some but I don't know if it worked actually. Because that evening, I sprayed it on myself.. then we were all going to take off and work away from the vehicles ( where the Off was) and there were so many mosquitoes that I freaked out and sprayed off on me anyway.
I was thinking ," What if I get clear down there in the trees and this stuff doesn't really work.. THEN I'm in BIG trouble."
sooooo I don't know if it works for sure. :-[
Mosquitoes panic me. or anything else that bites and you don't feel them land! I hate 'em.!

Lavender oil can be ordered online through any aromatherapy and incense  shop. There are many many many places. I am always trying different brands cause some are way better than others ( as with anything) and I use every oil that there is , as I mix them into my creams for the healing properties. And some are NOT good as the smells dissipate after mixing. ..which really irritates me as these kinds of items are not cheap.
Lavender is not expensive.. ( sandlewood is VERY expensive)
And some lavenders smell totally different too.. so just search.
If you are in the city's and poking around , so into some herbal shops or metaphysical shops. They usually have wonderful grades of oils that mix and hold the scent.
Wow.. I have gabbed so long, I don't have time to walk before mason gets here. Better go  and put some war paint on so I don't scare the little tyke first thing. HA HA ;D

I am so enjoying this cooler weather.

I am waiting for my sister to show up today. She called, from Topeka last night and said if I were
going to be home she would come down. I said, "Of course, I was going to be home.......where else would I be?"
Well, I am waiting for her to get here and we plan on eating at cafe.

She will only be here a few hours....which is ok. I am just happy she is coming down.
It has been years, maybe 5 since she was here and it will feel strange to have someone
in my apartment that isn's 4 legged or a housekeeper.

This weekend is the Dyer softball tournament and I will be real involved with the scorekeeping. I use to play, before all the arthritis and fibromyalgia and old age got me........but, I still like to watch good ball playing.
IF I don't keep score I spend my time visiting and almost forget to watch the ball game. LOL..something about the crowd, just
makes me gabby...LOL.
I haven't missed a game in 18 years. The first year I played in it.. Had a great time........Alas where do the years go.

So, I won't be on here most of the weekend, but I shall return come Monday. Hope all stay healthy and happy and comfy.
Come watch a ball game or two. It is free and there will be 8 teams playing round robin.......so it will take 2 days......
and all the money we collect will go for the summer ball programs.
And we all have a great time. Games start at 8 Saturday................and continue till around 10 that night....and then again Sunday...

See you all later.
Hugs and God bless

Today Al and I went to Rehobeth Beach for the day. The weather was perfect and it was busy enough to be fun, but not crowded. It's a little family town with a boardwalk only about 8 or so blocks long. They have a wonderful old indoor carousel at Fun Land. It has lots of carnival games and a few other little kid rides also. There are lots of typical beach food joints and doo-dad shops. The boardwalk always smells like caramel corn, beach fries, salt water taffy, and suntan lotion with overtones of salt spray. The banner plane was flying today, towing a banner down the shore that said," Bethany Blues, open all year, awesome ribs." The places start closing around Sept. 15th., but there is a nice "after season season." There is a very good British Fish and Chips shop called, "Go Fish" a block off the beach and he does great battered cod and "chips." I'm still full.

How was my day?????  It was a lot brighter after I read this e mail that I received this morning.
   Jo

Angels as told by kids . . .

I only know the names of two angels. Hark and Harold.
       Gregory, 5

Everybody's got it all wrong. Angels don't wear halos anymore.
I forget why, but scientists are working on it.
       Olive, 9

It's not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to heaven, then there's still the flight
Training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes.
       Matthew, 9

Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else.
       Mitchell, 7

My guardian angel helps me with math, but he's not much good for science.
       Henry, 8

Angels don't eat, but they drink milk from holy cows.
       Jack, 6

Angels talk all the way while they're flying you up to heaven. The basic message is
Where you went wrong before you got dead.
       Daniel, 9

When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep breath and counts to ten.
And when he lets out his breath, somewhere there's a tornado.
       Reagan, 10

Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel
Comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow.
Then when it gets cold, angels go north for the winter.
       Sara, 6

Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who's a very good carpenter.
       Jared , 8

All angels are girls because they gotta wear dresses and boys didn't go for it.
       Antonio, 9

My angel is my grandma who died last year. She got a big head start on helping me
While she was still down here on earth.
       Katelynn, 9

Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets.
And if they don't make the animals get better, they help the kid get over it.
       Vicki, 8

What I don't get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them.
       Sarah, 7

Good morning! I had a fine day yesterday.  My dad is a mechanic and I took the pickup to him in Eureka because of a bad water leak; looks like we need a new radiator.  That's okay though, my dad has been fighting a dozen different computer problems on vehicles in the shop for a couple weeks, and he was glad to have one he could diagnose the old fashioned way.  Ha!  Anyhow, I borrowed my sister's car for a few days and will go back up to get it when the parts show up & he gets them installed.  But I got to visit, and go out to lunch with my parents & sister, so it was  a nice day.

I think I'll see if I can get in to the doctor today. I have bug bites or a rash or something low on my shoulderblade that just doesn't seem to be getting better.  My mom, sister & Marty all agree it's not a spider bite (I was a little paranoid), but it's very sore and a little itchy, and now that whole area is tender like a pulled muscle.  I'm thinking it might be shingles ~ I've never had them before, but our son Chris did when he was about 9, and it looks a little the same ~ what I can see of it backwards in a mirror looking over my shoulder. Ha!

I've been slacking off on scraping the house.  Since I didn't like the first color I chose, it's hard to get excited about it again.  Maybe I'll go get some paint chips and spend some time day-dreaming of what it would look like different colors.  Sounds a little lazy ~ just the thing for a muggy-hot September day.  I told Marty I'd get 5 or 6 other colors and test paint sections of the garage so it will end up looking like a gypsy wagon.  No reaction.  He does that when he doesn't know if I'm kidding about something or serious...  It's good to keep him guessing.  ;)

Joanna -

If you have shingles - soooo sorry!!  :(
I've had them off and on for 30+ years - they are painful!!

As far as your house color goes -

Jim and I are convinced that if you wait, the right colors will come to you.
It took us awhile to come up with our colors, but as soon as we did, we knew they were the right ones.
so . . . patience.  ;)

And, once you get the right colors, the mood to scrape will return.
It all fits together.

Post by: Wilma on September 07, 2007, 09:48:42 AM
Joanna, I sincerely hope that you do not have shingles.  First daughter had them the first part of this year and she is still bothered with the pain of them sometimes.

As for your house colors, this is how I reached the decision on my house.  I scanned the paint chips, then applied each color to a photograph of the house by way of a computer program.  I could actually see how the color would look on the house and compare it to the way the other colors looked.  I am happy with the colors I chose.  This might not work with your wrap-a-round porch, since your house walls are in the shade.  Besides I had a lot of fun working it out on the computer.  I tried this method with the roof, too, but didn't have a photograph with enough roof to do a good job.  Now I need to decide what color to paint the front door as it needs it, too.

There is a "shingles shot" out now. Anyone over 60, might think about getting it.  Got mine last year. Next month I'll bug you all to get your flu shot.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Joanna on September 07, 2007, 03:59:06 PM
They told me it's not shingles, some kind of allergic reaction  ~ probably to some kind of bug bite they think, but since I didn't see it or feel it at the time, I don't know what.  I was pressure washing the house Monday when it started, and could have disturbed something there.  Anyhow, I got a super-powered cream to put on it twice a day, and some benedril, and it should go away soon. Now if I could just reach the middle of my shoulder blade... Ha! Another job for my Marty.

Diane -

More about this shingles shot . . .

Is it for those of us who already get shingles?
Or for the lucky ones who do NOT???

Is it preventative, or taken when an outbreak occurs?
How long does it last?

I can often feel the skin "tingle" before the blisters occur.
If I catch them that soon, Zovirax is wonderful!!!

I searched on-line for answers and got a confusing array.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Diane Amberg on September 08, 2007, 11:01:57 AM
Mom70x7, as of right now, Zostavax is only for those, over 60, who have never had a shingles outbreak. As I'm sure you already know, Herpes Zoster is related to Chicken Pox. The vaccine isn't 100% effective in everyone, but does diminish the outbreak significantly. There are restrictions with it, so the doctor is the best source of information. Ask your doctor, but I think you will need to stick with the Zovirax. I get Herpes Simplex on my lip occasionally, so that skin tightening and tingling is familiar to me too.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Janet Harrington on September 08, 2007, 03:01:02 PM
I have Herpes Simplex.  A few years ago, I got a very bad case of Herpes Simplex that went across my face in the area of my eyes.  I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed Acyclovir and 2 L-Lysine capsules twice a day.  As long as I take that medication each and every day, I do not have an outbreak.  I never get a fever blister anymore.  However; if I do not take it, I can feel the tingling on my lip and I know the outbreak has started again.  This doctor told me that I will have to take Acyclovir every day of my life for the rest of my life.  She said if I ever go off of it, the virus will flare up, go down, flare up, go down, and each flare up would be worse until I would finally be hospitalized for it.  So, needless to say, to make a long story short, LOL, I take my medicine each and every day, twice a day.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Wilma on September 08, 2007, 03:28:56 PM
I'm afraid that Janet inherited that from me.  I used to have very bad fever blisters but since she started taking that medicine I haven't had a bad one and very few minor ones.
Title: Re: How was your day?

She takes the meds and you got better?
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Wilma on September 08, 2007, 08:24:17 PM
It's true.  Of course, there is probably another reason I don't have fever blisters anymore, like not being out in the sun and wind.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Diane Amberg on September 08, 2007, 08:47:30 PM
I think that's probably it. The sun in May used to bring mine out, but liberal use of sun screen and a good hat have helped a lot.
Title: Re: How was your day?

Diane, you just don't understand.  I take the medication.  Mother gets better.  It works.  This is the same Mother that could go to sleep when her girls were out, then wake up about 5 minutes before we walked in the door and was standing at the kitchen sink waiting for us.  She told us she never lost any sleep worrying about whether or not we would be home on time because she would just wake up, then we walked in the door.  Twilight Zone if I ever heard of one.  Yep.

I heard Kansas lost another firefighter yesterday afternoon. It was just listed as Sedgwick county, so it must be around Wichita somewhere. He was electrocuted by a live wire at a grass fire, where a truck had taken down a power pole. Really a shame.
Title: Re: How was your day?
Post by: Wilma on September 25, 2007, 06:41:58 PM
Yes, the truck had ignored the bridge out signs and had tried to go on through.  Of course it had to turn around and took out a utility pole as it did.  That resulted in a grass fire and the firefighter got into the electric line.  That part of S. Broadway is only 2 lane and not much room for maneuvering.  Maybe this will make people believe the signs.

Well today was an elevator  type of day.
I attended my nephews funeral in Independence.
He died last week at 47 from an accident that happened to his leg......(he cut it) and it became infected and then he developed Flesh eating disease and was in a coma for about a week before he passed on.

I didn't know this all happened  and it was not pleasant to hear about Steve that way.

I am an ex and like I said usually hear the stories after the fact.  I can and do deal with that. I laid Steve with the Lord and just accepted that this will always happen.

When I first got to Independence, I had some time to kill before the gravesite service that was due for 1 Pm.
When Independence got flooded Steve's parents, (Ron and Phyllis) lived in the area in south Indy that was flooded the worst.
So I went to see what they had done to their house and when I drove to it, it was completely gone.
Down and the basement covered over and growing grass  all ready.

I just about lost my heart then.  I knew they had a lot of damage........just didn't know it was totaled.
I feel so sorry for them.  They had lived there since the late 70's and I spent a lot of time with them before my divorce.

We (Phyll and I) were so close that I felt like we were sisters instead of in-laws.
Now  Phyll is in the hospital.............she is recovering from a hip fracture and has COPD and lots and lots of medical conditions.

she didn't get to attend Steve's funeral.  Is in the Jane Phillips hospital and Ronnie said she is trying to get her strength to come back home.
Ron and Phyll did get to move in to Penn-Terrace in Indy and that will make it easier on Ron.
He isn't well either. Has heart problems and is a diebetic and worrying constantly about Phyll.

I did get to see my other nephews today. I see the one that lives in Independence several times a year and the oldest one, I got to see for the first time in 20 years.  Was bitter-sweet.............but his hugs were just what Aunt Judy needed.

While in town I had to get supplies from Walmart.......can't go in without making 1 trip do it all.

I head for Topeka and Kansas City this weekend. I have an appointment with my cancer doctor in KC Monday and will spend the weekend with my folks and siblings and enjoy the visiting.

Just telling about my day has exhausted me.........so I will sign off and head for rest.

Please put Steven's family on your prayer lists........I am making one message do it for two topics.........

but you all are so good about lifting my spirits that I feel sure you will let me.

Hugs and God bless ;) :)

Hi all, and thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. Al got through his surgery ok yesterday, but they did keep him overnight, which he wasn't too happy about. After the surgery he had a mild allergic reaction to some thing, we don't know what, so it made for a very long and tiring day. His throat swelled some and they just wanted to keep an eye on it. He wasn't intubated, so it wasn't that. They let him come home mid morning today. He is very uncomfortable in spite of the pain meds, but warm soaks do help. The surgeon told me about the clip job and "rearranging" he did. He said he did a lot of "yardwork" while he was in there, raking, pruning and weeding. ;D  Now Al has to do nothing for a week and then he should be pretty good. Glad that's over. Prayer continue for all those having difficulties.

I almost forgot to write this. I had a great walk this morning.

My dog has learned to tell time and he knows when it is time to go for our walk.
This morning as you know, was pretty foggy and I put off the walk, I thought, until it burned off.
But, Scooter wouldn't stop bugging me so we headed out while the fog was still covering the area.

I usually walk north of Longton, on the old road that went to Busby, before the new one was built.
Mainly cause when I get across the highway from there to the Hitchin creek the only things I need worry about
are the cows in the pasture and that I stay out of.
As I got to the tree line this morning, The first thing I see is this gigantic spider web covered in dew and I just had to stop and enjoy the beautie of it.

Continued down the lane and each and every tree had some form of cob-webs in it.
The best one was a dead hedge tree that at each junction had a web..........some were about 2 inches around and several were the size of queens necklaces.. Each one had beading of dew on them and the fog in the back ground and the light hitting them, made me so greatful that I had eyes to see and that God granted me the pictures today.

I kept wishing I had a fancy camera to capture that on film.............then I decided I couldn't do that well if I took the pictures.

But, for the rest of my life I can remember the picture in my mind.
The dog got his walk, I did my daily exercise and got a bonus besides.

After the start of the week and the rough time I had, this just made it all worth while.

I don't know if any of you enjoy natures gifts, but I just had to share this. I wish I had a necklace like one of them.

I think if I remember right, once upon a time there were collors made out of lace that looked like cobwebs and altho I thought they were beautiful........they just can't compare.

Now, I am closing out the day and saying good night and I hope you all have a peaceful one.

Hugs and God bless.....Judy

My mother's first daughter took a picture of a spider web with the dew hanging on the web.  It's hard to see as there are ghostly blobs in the picture.  Mother says they are fog droplets.  I think they are ghosts.  You decide.

I imagine that they are fog droplets.. but I would like to believe that they are angel orbs.

I took these today at 9:00 this morning...
The cobwebs... and then the other one is a ground spider. I would tap on the ground and she would run out of her hole and see if I was a tasty morsel.. I timed it right when she would run out and if you look close you can see her.

thanks, Teresa,

that was exactlly what I was talking about.
I can stand for hours and watch a spider work and have been known to help
an indoor spider catch his  fly (by swatting it) and
I warn spiders as long as they aren't on me, they may go about their lives and
I don't even mind cobwebs in the corners...........LOL.....if anyone tells me they are there
I tell them where the broom is  and that I was keeping that for a Halloween decoration.
I do enjoy God's nature and when my eyes see something this special, I just want to tell the world what I
saw and Now, I have.........nice to have someone to share my world............even on line....
This forum has just added a spark to my day.

Thanks for letting me in and now you all have a great day.

I better start mine. Tomorrow (Saturday) I head for Topeka for the weekend and then Monday I must go to KU-Med in Kansas City to check with the cancer doctor.

I could use all the prayer you all want to spend on me. It has been 7 months since I was up there and each time I go I just get a little scared that they will find cancer again.

I don't sense anything, but once bitten twice shy.
And I am not use to driving and all that traffic is another reason that I cower when I head up there.
Hugs and God bless

Thanks for sharing the pictures of the spider webs.  Aren't they fasinating?  It is so amazing how an insect can create such
mystical/magical images!  I, too, enjoy watching spiders work  just as long and I'm watching them work----outside!!

The spiderweb photos are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. Al is a little less spacey today "butt" still very sore, as expected. His throat and uvula are still a bit swollen so his family Doc prescribed some mild steroid to take the swelling down, but not enough to bother the healing. He says it feels better already. He had a restless night, so we are both tired this evening. I think fall came to stay this afternoon. The last two days we had record breaking heat here. 92 and very humid. This afternoon a dry cold front came down from Canada and dropped out all the humidity and now it's back down to 66. It won't get hot again.

I had a great day today. Started with finding all the good stories & great pictures on the Forum this morning.  Then I went to Severy to substitute for the 4th grade teacher, and we got to go on a Field Trip!  How great is that!  We went to the Old Iron Days at Fredonia.  The kids had a great time and I loved all the displays & presentations of farming & pioneeer life in the past.  We didn't even have time to see it all, we were enjoying things too much to rush, I guess.  I know several of the kids were going to try to get their folks to take them back to see more.
Anyhow, after that I came home & made some cakes for the cake-walk tomorrow, now I'm winding down and catching up on a little paperwork.  I have a dozen things on my list for this weekend, so better get things wrapped up here.
Have a great night!

So where is everyone? I hope you are all out enjoying the beautiful weather.  Al is a bit better today but still very sore.  His throat is good and the feeling of electric shocks has stopped, but he's still very sore and can't get as comfortable as he'd hoped.  But as he says, there are so many people so much worse off, he won't complain,  If you go outside and point your ear to the east, off in the distance you should be able to hear the Philadelphia Phillies fans roaring in glee.  The Phillies just won the National League East Championship and they are about to come unglued.  They haven't made post season baseball play since '93, so they are elated.  It looks like they will play either San Diego or Colorado on Wednesday, to see who goes to the World Series.  They have had such an inconsistent season, I would never have thought they would have made it this far. There will be a lot of cheese steaks eaten in celebration tonight!

There wasn't much joy in San Diego today!  It's bad enough for one team to lose, but for both teams to lose important games.....come on!

We enjoy the Padre's and the Charger's games, hardly ever attend in person due to the expense and hassle, but it's fun to watch them play, and it's just a whole lot more fun to watch them WIN!

No joy in Mudville again today?

Fogg (Colorado Rockies) vs. Peavy (San Diego Padres), 4:30 PDT, October 1, 2007, on TBS.

The end of this game will spell doom for one of these teams--at least until next year.

My day was...  BUSY~~~ what a surprise!... NOT!!  :)
But was up early.. had to be ready to close on the house at 9:00 and so Mouse (Rochelle) brought Mason up to me and we closed on the house.. ran some local errands.. and then went home.. fed and bathed him .. put him down for a nap.. Called Kjell ..he ran home from the office to stay here with him while i went to the bank.. Post office.. Hardware store and took the truck up to Lanning's to leave for some work that needed done on it.
I walked home .. Mason was awake.. so I fed him lunch.. gave him another bath.. packed some more stuff, did some laundry, finished some paper work and put him down for another nap. I called Kjell again. It was 3:00 and I had to leave at 3:30 to get the Dr. Rose Wilson  ( my chiropractor) in ElDorado by 4:30. So he tied up his loose ends and came down to keep Mason for an hour and a half until Rochelle came to get him at 5:30.
I got myself all put back together and found that I need to take lots of B6 cause I am retaining water in my ankles.
B6 is a natural diuretic. ( I didn't know that)  then went to Pizza Hut ..got a couple pizza's and came home. Got home and Kjell and Mark had moved and unloaded both of our deep freezers into the garage at the new house. So I started packing some more boxes of stuff and Kjell took them to the garage and unloaded them. And now, he is up at the office working and I am finishing up some stuff here. Just went out in the dark and cleaned out the truck as we have to leave at 8:00 in the morning to go to Wichita. We have to go get a million things at a million different places so we can start to do the work that we want to do on the inside of the house starting on Wednesday.
Soooo.. THAT was my day.  ;D

Busy.. but rather boring to those who have to read about it... lol

Bonnie, sorry about San Diego, I watched some of the game and for awhile I thought they might win.  We could have cheered against each other. ;D  I'm afraid Colorado is going to give our Phillies a hard time on Wednesday. If anybody could beat them it would be the Rockies. We shall see!

Yeah, I guess, the Padres just "did the best they could do."  There was lots of "wailing in the streets" in San Diego, I guess.  It's always been my belief that the best team wins, so, that's evidently what happened last night.  I was kept pretty busy, switching back and forth between watching "Dancing with the Stars," and the game.  I couldn't believe that the game went on for as many innings as it did.   Oh, well!  The sun still came up this morning, and it's a beautiful day!  Good luck to "your team," Diane!

The game was four hours and forty-five minutes long and did not end until after midnight on the east coast. I thought sure the Padres had won it with those two runs at the top of the 13th inning.

The Rockies swept the Phillies just this past month in their own stadium so one might think there might not be much of a contest.

However, the Rockies throughout their short history have bungled things when it mattered most--much like my football team the Kansas City Chiefs.

When I lived in KC, I used to like to go to some of the games, but it would get so frustrating watching the shoe drop out of nowhere at the very worst time.  Haven't paid much attention to them in the last few years.

I really do like to attendi the professional football and baseball games, but, it does cost an arm and a leg to attend anymore, and it's such a hassle getting into the stadium.  The last time I went to the Padres game, at the new "Petco" stadium, we had to park about a mile away, and walk, and the parking wasn't inexpensive, either.   I've come to grips with the fact that it is something the younger people can do, much easier than those "my age!"  But, it's fun!

We couldn't understand why the Padres wore those ugly brown uniforms in last night's game!!!!  In fact, when I first started watching it, I kept thinking that the Padres were in the uniforms worn by the Rockies, as that's the type of uniforms we see them in most of the time.  (They really should "run those things by me!")
Title: Re: How was your day?

Last night's parking at Coors Stadium was $40.

That is a far cry from the 50 cents we paid to park and see the Triple A Kansas City Blues play baseball in the early 1950s. The stadium was in a black neighborhood and we would park on the street. A little kid would run up and ask for 50 cents to watch your car while you were at the game. If you said no, it was hard telling what might happen to your vehicle. If you gave him the 50 cents he guarded it (and others) with his life.

When the Athletics moved from Philadelphia to Kansas City in 1955, the Kansas City Blues moved to Denver. That team was in Denver until 1993 when the Rockies were formed. There has been one other Colorado Rockies team. The Colorado Rockies played for a short time in the National Hockey League in the late 70s and early 80s.

The Athletics in Philadelphia were an empire like none ever. They were owned by Connie Mack. He not only owned the Athletics, he was their manager for many years. He also owned the ball park they played in. Further, he rented the ball park to the Philadelphia Phillies to play their home games. Anyone in Philadelphia seeing a National or an American League game went to the same stadium.

It was not until after Mack died that the team took on new owners who moved to Kansas City. The team eventually wound up in Oakland.

And, that's why I don't have any idea about where most teams are located these days!  I know the name of the team, but which City they're in is something I just don't know!  (I'd probably know, if I really was that interested, don't you think?)

Did you know Boston slugger Ted Williams, the last man to hit over .400 in a season, once played for and led the Padres to the league pennant?

That was in 1937 when the San Diego Padres were a Pacific Coast League team and Williams was eighteen years old.

It used to be in baseball that the home team always wore all white and the visiting team always wore all gray. The Yankees were the only team in pin stripes.

I think San Diego was observing the old tradition. However, it did look like those uniforms were a little drab.

Uniform tradition changed somewhat when Charley Finley purchased the Kansas City Athletics in the sixties and tried to liven the game by introducing the A's in kelley green and gold uniforms with white shoes for all games. Those uniforms were outlandish but helped draw fans.

Nowadays I have seen visitors wear half white uniforms.

Finley also tried to introduce orange baseballs claiming hitters could see the ball better at night.

I could not tell you what the NFL uniform policy is but I have seen the Kansas City Chiefs wear all white while on the road.

Now Waldo, that was very mean of you to remind me what the Rockies did to the Phillies here at home. ;D I was hoping it was just a bad dream! Our guys have been up and down all season, so it really depends on how bad they want it.  I used to know Dave Raymond, The Phillie Phanatic. He started out as our U. of Del. Blue Hen. I also knew "Rocky Bluewinkle," the moose mascot of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. They  are associated with the Kansas City Royals.  We are both really good friends with one of the owners of the White Sox, so I guess I should be even more of a sports fan than I am.  Aaron was just impossible when the White Sox won the World Series two years ago. ;D ;D ;D  Bonnie, I know what you mean, I still have to remind myself that the Colts aren't in Baltimore any longer.

I never would have thought the Rockies would sweep the Phillies.

The Rockies have this silly dinosaur as their mascot. When construction started on Coors stadium in the early 90s, construction workers doing the digging and foundation work had to stop work because they found a number of fossils and a huge intact dinosaur egg. "Scientists" took the egg to a safe warm place and a few months later lo and behold the egg began to crack open and out popped Dinger the dinosaur. He is a specific type of dinosaur but I cant recall which at the moment.

I had to chuckle concerning the University of Delaware Blue Hen comment.

That immediately reminded me of the Toledo Mud Hens which were an AAA team in the American Association when the Kansas City Blues were playing.

There use to be three or four AAA leagues and a whole bunch of AA, A, B, C, and D leagues. Now I think there is only one AAA league and a smattering of AA leagues. They sorted the leagues kinda like eggs.

Joplin, Missouri, had a D league  baseball team in the 1950s and Mickey Mantle got his start there.

Howard had a baseball team that played where the pool is now. It might have been semi-pro. I recall going to several games.

My cousin, Darrell Hare, lived in Denver for years (he moved to Amarillo about a year ago)  he was completely "caught up" in sports, and I had never heard the story about the dinosaur mascot!  But, I don't get to see him often, and I guess the subject just never came up.

At Lake Elsinore (California) there is a California League (Class A Advanced) team, called "The Storm," and they are a Class A team for the Padres.  Lake Elsinore is a little more than an hour north of us, up Highway 15, and our Church Group goes to a "Storm" baseball game each summer.  They have a wonderful stadium, family friendly, and we all really do enjoy watching a good baseball game up there.  Those boys play for very little money, and they're "trying out" for the big leagues, so they really put their heart and soul into the games.  Parking is free, and we have a picnic supper catered, they set up a bunch of tables under a tent right there by the side of the stadium, that cost us each about $6.00 or $7.00.  Now, THAT's the way to go to a good baseball game!  We go on the night they have great Fireworks followng the game, so, we have no complaints about anything!

Here I am.................yes, I did go to Topeka and Kansas City.

Good news I am still cancer free, and don't go back till April. Then if all is well, he will let me have yearly visits.
This was a good weekend.....altho my family are not in good health right now.

Mom has a staph type infection to her colon and maybe intestines.  Has had diareaah...........(SHITS) sorry the devil made me do it....LOL for the past 2 or 3 months.
Would get it stopped and then it would start again.
This last round of antibiotics was priced at ONE Thousand dollars...........Dad about dropped his teeth when he got the bill.
With the help of the pharmacist he was able to find a program that only cost dad $40. Co pay. (oh he did say she was taking each one of those pills....) no wasting

My sis has a cold.........and is trying to help look after mom.......and dad.
My brother and his wifes special needs child is going through a 'mad' spell.
He is 23 and has the mental age of a 8 or 9 year old............is intellegent, but has a type of syndrome that makes him mentally challenged.
He isn't a Downs patient, but has some form of Autism with another one added to it.

He is at home with folks and is ok with that, but in the afternoons he gets very angry.........and starts to hyper-ventilate and is really putting Mike and Diana through the paces now.
He is fun until then. Meaning he is still a challenge but controllable and mostly loving.

Having problem's finding out what is wrong and dealing with it. He can't tell them where it hurts and is almost always talking  (his way) to someone or something.
That is another story......but all of these people need lots and lots of prayer.

I will attempt to relate this story later.
I have come home with a full blown Fibromyalgia
Flare and predicted all that rain yesterday and am ready for some down time.

I also must catch up with 4 days here on forum.
You all were missed.
Chat with you later.

Hugs and God bless

Glad you are home safely, Judy.  Want to know about my day?  Except for a quick trip to Eureka, I spent most of the day in the garage getting my garage sale ready.  To start with it didn't seem like much, then 4th daughter brought in a car load.  Second daughter says she has her car trunk full but we are betting the back seat is full, too.  First daughter has been adding to it all summer as she gets unpacked and decides to part with some things.  Third daughter brought hers in the other day.  Not as much as she had the last time, but there is always her books.

My problem is that I like everything organized so that you don't find unrelated items together.  So I spend a lot of time rolling around the garage putting things where they belong.  I also get to do most of the pricing.  With 3 daughters helping tomorrow, we should be ready by Friday morning.  Would be glad to see you if you have the time.  Just tell me your Forum moniker since I don't know most of you.

Hello all.   Yesterday I did a fire safety workshop at the state's early childhood education conference at the U. of Del.  We teachers all love goodies, so I sent them on their way with lots of fire safety literature, new smoke detectors and fresh batteries.  We really had a good time.
Last weekend was downstate Bridgeville's big Apple/scrapple festival.  There are many apple orchards there and a big scrapple factory.  They put it all together for a great day.  Apple everything to eat, grilled scrapple as well as scrapple carving and a scrapple flinging contest.  Totally silly, but great fun.
Soon we'll be having the famous Delaware Punkin' Chuckin' contest that started here a few years ago.  It began with some old car frames with springs and slingshots and has grown into a big deal with huge air cannons and incredible machines.  People come from all over and Canada too.  It has had to move a couple of times because they were out shooting the farm fields they were using. One group swears they will chuck a mile this year. Oklahoma had a cannon here last year, maybe we'll see Kansas this year.  Since we're getting close to Halloween, I want to hear more about the decorated out houses, and Bonnie tell us about your trip...you must have some good adventures to share.

Well, I am sitting here being very smug. :D  In the paper today there was a little article about a man who is relocating here from Texas. His name is Kjell Hegstad. Thanks to Teresa and the forum, I knew how to pronounce it!  :D.
I spent too much time today watching the fires on tv.( I hope we will hear from Bonnie again soon.) As expected the fire service has taken a hit already. Two badly burned when their apparatus was over run, two more with moderate burns and about 17 others injured in other ways. Its really rough on everybody.

An evening report....Conditions are better, the Santa Ana winds aren't blowing so hard, so the fires aren't being scattered hither and yon, like they were.  In some areas, we're still seeing problems.  If any of you have ever seen a "wildfire," they create their own life and winds, and just explode.  So, it can be fairly calm in one area, and completely different a couple of blocks away.  I'm anxious to see a map of Rancho Bernardo, to see where all of those hundreds of home were located that burned.  I have an idea, but until we see it, we won't know for sure.   The final number of homes burned is still not determined, well over a 1,000, though.  There have been 530,000 people evacuated.  The local population has been wonderful to supply donations of anything and everything that is needed.  The good thing that comes out of a disaster like this is that it really does bring out the best in people.  Cathy, Harvey and Michael will be spending the night with us, maybe they can get back to their home in Valley Center tomorrow.  It's hard to get information, with so much going on over such a large area.

Anyway, thanks for your concerns and prayers.  They are being answered!

Title: Re: How was your day?/Bonnie's report

Yes,

I got a message from her this morning.
I will try to find it and will post it for her....Here it is

She Good morning:
I'll give just an "up close and personal" report of what's going on out this way.  Some of you are probably able to get on web-sites and you know about as much as we do.

We were hoping that the worst would be over with by today, but there still seems to be many critical areas where the fires are burning out of control, and people are still being told to evacuate areas.  However, about 50,000 people have been allowed to return to their homes, according to the reports.  But, there's over around 600,000 (the figure keeps changing) people who have been forced to evacuate their homes.  The town of Julian was evacuated this morning.  Water and electricity are in short supply.  So many of the electric lines are down, transformers blown, etc.  Ramona is "out of water."  Rancho Bernardo is still under "mandatory evacuation," due to the potential for the ever changing direction of the winds to start more fires.  Embers can be blown for miles, and start another fire.

Several people we know have lost their homes to fire, and that information is coming in slow.  However, addresses of burned homes in many areas are posted on the inter-net.

Cathy, Harvey and Michael are staying with us, they still don't know the status of the fire that started on the La Jolla Indian reservation, or how close it might be to their home, we are just hoping for the best.  That fire is burning on Palomar Mountain.  The Medical Clinic where Cathy works is closed.

With all of this disaster and sadness, the good news is that there are 42 evacuation centers that have opened up just about everywhere that isn't in the line of the fires, and the response to the needs of "the displaced" has been tremendous!  It looks like the people at Qualcomm stadium are having a wonderful time.  It's a pretty sure thing that some of those thousands of people down there aren't actually "displaced," they're just getting a "free ride" for a few days!  "They say" the meals are great, and there's all kinds of "free services" available.

Of course, a lot of the "displaced" have family and/or friends where they can go, and most of the people we know have done that.

I think the final count of homes destroyed is beyond 1,500, plus all of the vehicles, etc., that were burned.  There are a lot of T. V. news people from all over the country who are sending some of their reporters out here, to give relief to "our" reporters who have been working long, hard hours.

I just had some good news!  I had a telephone call from our good friend, Michael Schlegel, it is his wedding we're to attend this Friday evening at the Wild Animal Park.  And, he was just checking in, to see how we are doing and Cathy and Harvey, and to say that everything is still a "go" with their wedding plans.  The bride-to-be is the Human Resources director at the Wild Animal Park and she's been my good friend for 20 years.  "Dr. Schlegel" came to work at the Park about 5 years ago or so, as the "Animal Nutritionist."  Since he didn't know anyone at all out here, and I was working in the same area as he was, we just became good friends.  He joined our family at our Thanksgiving gatherings for several years, he's "one of the good guys."  His family and a lot of friends are all flying in from Pennsylvania, and friends are opening up their homes to them, as several of them were staying at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, and it's closed, of course.   So, (happy face!)  That was very good news.  The Wild Animal Park has been closed all week, but is scheduled to open up tomorrow.  Michael said one of the Condor facilities burned, (the Condors had been removed, of course) and the fire burned up to the back gate at the Park, and burned a cluster of mail boxes that were across the road from the back gate.  I told him Bob might need to have his mask on, for breathing, and he said "if we have to, we'll pass around masks!"

I'm going to go out and rake up the neighbors leaves off of our newly sodded lawn.  Can't help where your leaves blow!

Thanks for all of the prayers, concerns and "offers of shelter" that you're sending our way.  They are felt, and greatly appreciated!

Love,

Bonnie

For an old lady, I have had quite a day.  My water damaged ceiling is finally repaired and thanks to the young man that did the work, I also have 2 above the window shelves.  I think he was concerned that the patch would show up too much and he thought that if there were a shelf full of my elephants above the window, people would see the shelf and elephants and not notice the patch.  The windows are divided by a fireplace so that the windows set back about 2 feet from the front of the fireplace.  Each window area is about 6 ft. long, so now I have 2 6 ft. shelves above my head that I can't reach.  The one under the patch is being filled with elephants and I think I will use the other for a bird area.  I have several sets of love birds and I think a bald eagle perched up high would look good.

Since I had to take down the curtains for the work to be done, I also took down the kitchen curtains and washed all of them.  The cafe curtains have been put back up but I like the way the windows look without a valance and think I will leave it that way for awhile.  And you can't wash curtains without washing windows.  First daughter removed the bottom inside window for me to wash but couldn't figure out how to remove the top inside window.  Waited for the carpenter to come back and he knew how to remove it so the windows got washed except for the outside.

Besides the carpenter working here today, one of my great granddaughters spent most of the day with me while her mother made a trip to Wichita to get her birthday present.  She is a lively young girl but we got along fine.  Needless to say, I am tired, but it has been a satisfying day and I bet I sleep good tonight.

Wow, Wilma, it sounds like you got a LOT done today!  The shelves will really come in handy.  I never seem to have enough places to put "things!"

I kind of got a good start on cleaning out a clothes closet today.  I am the worlds worst, when it comes to not getting rid of clothes, when I buy new clothes.  Most of the clothes we have these days never seem to wear out, there just seems to be a problem with them becoming smaller as the years go by!  You'd think with all of the people who have lost their homes and everything in them, that there would be a desperate need for used clothing, but I've not read about a place to take them, so I will just take our used clothing to the Am-Vets store, or the Salvation Army.  I think the people who lost everything can go to either store and get what they want, free of charge.

Other than that, and baking a "Dump Cake" this afternoon, it's been a pretty nice, quiet day around this adobe hacienda.  Tonight is the Methodist Church's supper and Bazaar in Longton, I always wish I could be there.

Wilma; you could use the bottom side of your new shelves to hang some sort of curtain from?  I saw an idea like that recently.  I think it was to hang roman shades.

I have already hung a couple of elephant wind chimes from the bottom of the elephant shelf.  The bird shelf is above the computer and with the "stuff" I have stacked on either side of the computer, chimes wouldn't be able to hang down.  Maybe a short ruffle along the bottom of the shelf?

Now I'm ready to have some down time. We got all the local and county fire prevention winners taken care of, went to a friend's bonfire and a 45th high school mini - reunion. The U. of Del. Blue Hens are going to the play offs, and for the first time will play the Del. State Hornets on Friday here in Newark. ESPN will carry it. K.U. is doing well too, I see. We're about to have your warm Kansas weather for tomorrow and Thursday. Thanks! With all the menus I've seen, there is going to be some good eating on Thursday. I have some sadness knowing my only family on the east coast won't see us over the holiday, but I have my forum family to be thankful for...and some new sisters! Al is finally on the mend and seeing much improvement and much less pain. I do have a bushel of things to be thankful for.

One of the many things I have to be thankful for this year is this website.  Since I have been on here, my stepsister Cynthia, (Wichita), and I have talked so much more often. I have things now to talk about instead of just what is going on here.  In fact, I called the other day.......they walked in the door just as the phone was ringing and my neice said,  "Hey Mom, I'll bet that's Aunt Roma calling to tell you about the fire in Howard."  We have more fun seeing which one of us hears Elk Co news first.  It has brought me closer to my family. Thank you again and again all of you and Teresa and Kjell for such great work. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I made a quick trip to Independence this morning and what to my wondering eyes should appear?  A full grown bald eagle, about a mile east of Elk Falls.  Made the whole trip worth going out in the cold.

Oh Wilma, how wonderful that the Eagle was there for you to see and admire.  There are a lot of Bald Eagles in northern Minnesota, and there was a pair that nested high in an old tree at the northeast corner of the lake, and we would see them every day that we were out in the boat.  They hatched two babies summer before last and one day while we were fishing for pan fish, one - either the male or female, came swooping down just a little ways from us, snatched a good sized fish out of the water and few off to the nest with it held firmly in it's talons.  I'm telling you , that was exciting for me and Fred, first time either of us had seen that, and it was so close, we both jumped when it came down at the water.  Such beauty and such a strong bird.  I always told Fred when they circled very close above us , that they were talking to me.   hahaha   But I truly believe they were.

Wilma, it's so nice that you got to see an eagle. Ours were almost eliminated years ago because of DDT, but they have made a great comeback here. We have several nesting pairs near here that come swooping through occasionally. Aren't they beautiful?

It is still such a treat to see a bald eagle around here.  I will never forget the day that the Winfield Lake was surrounded by hundreds of eagles that had come this far south for food because the north was frozen solid.  We were on our way over here that morning and couldn't believe what we were seeing.  It was so amazing that I didn't even think of the small camera that I always carried in my purse.  I so wish I had thought to take some pictures.

I see nobody is talking about the big football game yesterday. I wish the Jay Hawks had gotten going a little sooner. The poor field goal kicker must have really been dissapointed. Ok, now what....will you root for Oklahoma or the Tigers? Will you look east or south? ;D

I think I'll probably be rooting for Oklahoma!  We have always felt a "kinship" with everything and everyone in Oklahoma!  But, Missouri certainly played well, in defeating Kansas.  So, I think I'll just have to say "may the best team win!"  (And, they will!)

Since we live in Sooner Country and our boys both went to college there, we will be rooting for OU on Saturday.  They are a good bunch of kids and have been good examples of upstanding college athletes.  We beat Missouri early in the season, but this will probably be a tougher road to victory.  Missouri did a great job against KU yesterday, although the Jayhawks made a great recovery in the second half.  Too little too late though................................

It was a cold, wet, sleety day here and I spent a good piece of it doing name tags and working on craft stuff for our fire fighters' kids' Christmas party next Sunday afternoon.  Yes, we call it a Christmas party, with a Christmas tree and everything.  We'll have people of several religions there and probably a few atheists too.  Our feeling is that nobody ever died of hearing a few Christmas songs.  We'll have 5 big tables of crafts for the children to do, songs, and Santa arriving in a sleigh to the tune of "Here Comes Santa Claus."  One of our guys is a professional photographer and takes Santa photos for anyone who wants them.  Of course we have to have a good pig out too, so we'll have pizza, cotton candy, cookies and ice cream....talk about a sugar high!  ;D  We'll fill goody bags and set up the kids' tree next Wednesday at the hall.  Lots of work, but well worth it.  As the kids get too old for it, they often ask to come back as helpers. Usually I can set up the crafts tables and just get out of the way. Any of you that might have simple craft ideas, please share, I've already started planning for next year.

Sounds like everyone is getting in the holiday spirit!  I had some "elves" help me decorate this year; my mom, sister, and brother's girlfriend helped decorate the day after Thanksgiving while the guys were watching football.  It was fun to have the company and nice to have the help.  My tree is a little 5' rustic one that we've decorated with ornaments we've received from family and friends.  I only have one ornament on it that we purchased; a little wood lobster we bought on our honeymoon in Key West.
I enjoy decorating for Christmas, but I also have "winter" decorations.  I love snowflakes, so I keep all my snowmen and snowflakes up until the warmth of spring inspires me to take them down.
This weekend, I finally found time to start on my Christmas cards.  I hand-stamp them, so it's usually a labor of love that takes a few days.  Stamping them is the fun part; I always have a harder time actually addressing them!
I hope everyone has a safe and blessed Christmas season!  Be careful doing all your shopping, wherever you roam.

P.S.  Did you know that in larger cities, some of the lawn care and landscaping companies are doing outdoor holiday decorating to help with the winter cash flow slump?

They've done that in Midland, TX for several years.  Trouble is, they start so early that sometimes people have their Christmas decor lighted before Halloween.  It is understandable that they must start early to get them done, and especially when they light up the huge Live Oak Trees, but wish the people wouldn't turn them on until the appropriate time.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.  I got quite a bit done.  Got my toys for the 12 little ones in our family made.  Then I started on making  gifts for the women in the family.  I think I'll make a couple batches of Peanut Brittle and then go to bed so I'll be ready to hit it at Sigma-Tek tomorrow.

The amount of peanut brittle you make is unbelievable. I make it too.. but no where near that many pounds of it.  :o

I haven't yet decide what I am going to make in my "give away baskets".
I haven't made peppernuts for a few years..( they are such a pain in the you -know-what..) but I may do that. Plus I will add
peanut brittle , cinnamon rolls and some kind of cookie and maybe some homemade cheese crackers.

I love to bake and usually I just keep adding and adding.. but this year I will keep it to these few things, as I have added a few baskets to make..

I just went outside and it is so crisp and cold out. After being in the cold garage for awhile (digging around in the freezer for some shrimp for the linguine I am making for supper.. I have to say that when I opened the door to come back inside.. I was so grateful for my warm house. It makes me once again appreciate and give a silent thank you for my home.

Oh yeah.. my day was good.. got the house all cleaned and vacuumed and mopped .. some laundry done.. an hour and a half massage given and some paperwork done.. had time to spout of on the forum today and now I am cooking supper and getting ready to do the True Value Hardware's bookwork. Then I will walk up to the courthouse and see if my camera will not be too cold to take some pictures..
Hope everyone else had a good day. ;D

Any of you that might have simple craft ideas, please share,

Diane, the Wild Animal Park has the "Festival of Lights" each year at the Park, for the last three weeks in December, and they have all kinds of crafts for children to do.  I'm trying to think of something easy, one is just simply stamping brown paper with stamps of Christmas designs, to be used for wrapping paper.  (Now, that's pretty simple!)  Another is using the cut outs from previously used Christmas Cards, and gluing them on wreaths.  Of course, they decorate cookies that are already made, and just simple things like that.  They make things out of the spools that thread comes on, they're always asking for the tubes that wax paper, paper towels and even T.P. comes on, for using in some kinds of crafts.  I'm sure you've done all of those things.  I wish I knew how to do more crafts, and I'd just be glad to share that information with you!

Sally, what gifts do you make for the children, and what gifts do you make for the adults?  You just really "put me to shame," as I never did/could "make things!"  I can be "in charge" at gatherings, and I can get a lot done, just not crafts and the such!

boy have I had a day.
I decided to go to Walmarts today. It was time to pick up my meds
and today is a day that my favorite beauty operator works and I needed a hair
cut.

I had to wait about forty-five minutes before she could work me in so I headed
back to Pharmacy and looked around a little, saved my main shopping till after the
haircut.  Lots of stuff to spend money on and I love to window shop.

After she cut my hair.......of course she washed and dryed it.........I headed to the main
part of store for the stuff I really needed.............dog food and toilet paper and things like that.

Also needed some special Christmas cards for special people..mom and dad and my daughter and sister and brother
the rest get generic cards.  Then grandson's birthday is the 15 and needed to make one trip this month do it all.

Spent a little time in the grocery area........just needed a few things........but everytime I moved I had to go around
a buggy and people.
Kids were screaming and I needed a nap........and just kept getting colder then longer I was there.
I swear it was warmer outside than in WalMarts today.

I stopped at the deli and bought me some fried chicken livers to bring home for supper and spent several minutes just leaning on the warm and oh so toasty glass case. I could have stayed there the rest of day. LOL
Had to get gas so I am good to go to Topeka when Christmas gets here.....if weather and all works out. I will spend it home for the Holiday.....
when I got back to Longton I had been gone almost 6 hours....and boy is this body ready for an easy chair.......

that is where I am heading.....it is too early for bed.......but I won't be staying up late tonight.

I did have a good day and now I am going to have a comfy evening.

Have a good one to all of you and see you tomorrow.

Hugs and God Bless,
Judy

Well, this little gal isn't going to do anything for Christmas, except work.  I think we will be working 11 hour days 6 days a week before Christmas gets here.  Business is good at amazon.com.  Our family Christmas will be at Mother's on the 23rd and I'll get home at 6:00 a.m.  There won't be any of the Janet cooking any Christmas stuff, but my sister Patti and her daughter, Teresa, took good care of Mother for Thanksgiving and I think they will do the same on Christmas.  I'll be lucky to be awake enough to be at the dinner.  I believe that we work up through Christmas morning, but I won't know that until probably a few days before.  From this house, folks will be lucky to get Christmas cards.  I'll be glad when Christmas is over and I can go back to my normal Monday through Friday shift with Saturday and Sunday off.  Yeah.

Usually Janet does more than her share making a holiday for the family.  She deserves a year off.

Today, first daughter and I went to Wichita.  The day started good as we left Howard about 8:00.  Just up the road we saw lots and lots of geese.  Then a bit further up the highway is the grave of the first teacher in Elk County.  It is looking very neat.  Nicely mowed from the fence back to the gravesite and there is off road parking if you can get to it.  I didn't notice how to get from the highway to the parking as I was too busy admiring how nice it looked.

Our day in Wichita went very smoothly.  We had a list, checked it twice, but still managed to forget to buy crackers.  Otherwise we got everything we went over for and were home by 2:30.  Tomorrow we will go up to Julie's and buy what she has that is better than what you can find anywhere else.  Besides it is time to refill my prescriptions and I just like looking around the store.

I'm gaining ground.  I've got 20 batches of peanut brittle done and 2 batches of pecan brittle done.  Tomorrow I am going to take a break form that.  I made all the kids marshmallow guns.  Won't the Mothers love me? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DI'm making the women glass block lights wrapped like a gift.

I sure hope it doesn't get to soggy around here on Saturday as I would like to get the brittle done and get started on the popcorn balls.   One of the elfs told me Santa was really on a heavy schedule this year and would be coming to Piedmont to visit on the 16th so I need to hurry.

Sally, you are a "go-getter!"  Good Heavens girl!  How do you get it all done?

I guess I don't know what a "Marshmallow gun" is?  (Probably a gun made from marshmallows?)

And, I don't know what a "glass block light" is.  I must really be behind with what's happening in today's world!

Anyway, I admire your ability to get things done. :) :) :)

Marshmallow guns are made from pvc pipe and you blow the marshmallows thru them.  Nothing like shooting marshmallows at people. :)
The glass blocks are the ones they use for windows like in bathrooms so there is light but you can't see thru them.  You drill a whole in them and thread Christmas lights in them then you wrap a ribbon around them with a bow on top.  They look like a Christmas present when done.  They are really cute lights for the season.  Gotta run.  It's time to go to work.  Have a beautiful day.

Sally, thanks for the explanations of the gifts you're making.  They sound really neat.

As for how our day went.......

My husband (Bob) is to have cataract surgery in January and his driver's license is to be renewed by his birthday, Dec. 29th.  So, he was really worried about passing the vision portion of the test he is required to take.  We went to the DMV this morning, he passed the vision test just fine, and only missed ONE on the written test, so he's "good to go" for another 5 years, I think it is.
Those things just really make us happy!

I gather he didn't have to take a road test.  Great!  Cataract surgery sure has changed over the years.  It used to be a hospital stay, weird pupils and thick glasses.  Now it's so simple.  I'm sure he'll be happy to have bright colors back again.

No, he didn't have to do the road test.  If a person doesn't pass the written test, then they take the road test, but I'm not sure what other reasons might prompt the road test.

We have had a great day!  Our daughter arrived from California on Thursday A.M. about 8.  We picked her up, had breadkfast at Cracker Barrel, and done a small amount of shopping.  Her friend came in on the same flight on Friday, so she and I picked him up and headed back north.  We have been in Bartlesville almost a month now.  They have been very good to help us this weekend with hanging pictures, moving furniture, etc.  Frank had back surgery the last of September, so he is not to be doing some of these things.  We still have many boxes to unpack, but we get a little done each day.  Had to get the office set up and running before anything else got done.  Today, we drove to Howard to see relatives for a few minutes.  We did stop in at the Cox building and saw a few people.  We then went to the farm to see my mother and we drove in to Lila's at Piedmont for lunch.  She had pan fried chicken and it seemed to be very popular as they ran out before 12:30.  Aside from the weather being so cold and misty, it has been a great day.  We are back in Bartlesville now and get to spend one more day with our kids before they head back to California.

Merry Christmas to all in the forum group.

Great to sit down and join you good people for a little while.  Made peanut brittle all day.  I'm finally down to just 10 or 12 batches for Steve and I to take to work and a few people he wants to give it to.  I even tried some coconut-pecan brittle today.  I think we'll have some homemade vegggie soup for supper on this cold night.

It was a great day for us too!  We went to Manhattan to our oldest son's graduation from K-State.  The roads were pretty crummy going up and MUCH worse coming home, but we wouldn't have missed it!

Thanks Bonnie, Diane & Ole Granny.  Chris' degree is in Marketing.  Actually, he's been working at GTM (Greek To Me) which is a sportswear company based there in Manhattan but sells nationally and even worldwide now.  He increased to full time this summer, and is staying on with them as a district sales rep.  They sell mostly team uniforms, logo items & such, though do a lot of retail & special orders too.  Chris's territory is California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona (I think), anyhow, more of the far western states.  The fires out there caused him some distress because so many of his regular customers were burned out or displaced, and he is concerned for them.

In January he'll get to start going to a couple trade shows, and probably travel a few times each year.  He loves the company and they've really been good to him the last couple years ~ encouraging him in his fishing tournaments and making a flexible schedule to work around his classes.

Chris' wife, Dana, graduated in May and is working on her Masters in Gerentology.  She also has a full time job as administrative assistant to 3 doctors at the hospital.  Anyhow, they plan to be in Manhattan for a few more years while she finishes her Master' program.  Marty said that it's a good career choice for her, because he plans to get old... someday... :P

:) The highlight of my day was watching's Diane's Delaware Blue Hen's win their game today.  It was an exciting game and I'll be rooting for them Friday night when they play in Tennessee.  Guess I'll go to bed and look forward to waking up to the ice in the morning.  They say its moving this way.

WOW !!  How wonderful for all of you - and next will be the daughter-in-law.  That is a super accomplishment for your whole family, Joanna.  And when I viewed the picture - I thought " what a great Christmas gift "  - never even gave a thought that the Shiny Star was on top of his head.  lol
My day has been sort of ho-hum --- but each day that I am blessed with waking up and feeling super good is enough for me.

Talked to friends in Minnesota and it is brrrr cold up there - then talked to Teresa and it is BrBr cold in Howard as well.
I feel guilty ( wellllll  not really ) but it is very warm here in south Texas.  and this humidity is not my favorite thing every day, but my nose is warm.    :D :D :D :D

Today was another drizzly, chilly day here, with little sun. There was some tricky black ice this morning. I watched a little mummery rehearsal on our local TV station. It looks like there may be a bit of rain early tomorrow, but then clear and upper 40s in Philadelphia for the huge Mummers parade.  New Castle County has it's "First Night" family carnival on the streets of Wilmington tonight, and little Middletown (10,000) has its "Hummers" Parade tomorrow, a really funny send up of the mummers. (They even have the "ladies marching lawn chair brigade.") By the way, the little Middletown High School Marching Band, all 85 of them, are going to the Orange Bowl. They'll get to see KU play Va.Tech. That is so great!  A I du Pont High School, all 200+ of them, are in Pasadena for their 5th Rose Bowl Parade appearance. That's pretty good for a tiny little state. We'll watch the ball drop tonight, if we can stay awake.

We had a good day Sunday, left home early, picked up one of Frank's brothers and sister-in-law and drove on to Wichita.  There we met two of his nieces and husbands and his sister Anita for lunch to celebrate her 91st birthday.  After lunch, we went back to the home where she stays for cake and ice cream and watched her open her gifts.  Of course, there was lots of visiting and picture taking.  She looked very good and seemed to enjoy the day and was glad to see her brothers!  We then drove on to another location and visited Frank's sister-in-law Louise for a short time before heading back home.   It was a great day and we were glad to be a part of her birthday.

Yesterday, we worked here at the house, yes we are still unpacking and trying to get things like we want them.  Then went to eat Mexican food at the Montery Restaurant.  Sure tasted good and hit the spot as it was quite cold last night.  May do some more work and watch a little of the football games, etc. today.

Happy New Year to all

Thanks for the update on Anita.  I haven't heard anything about her for several years.  I use to run into her occasionally.  Heard Genevieve's voice in Dillon's one day, turned around immediately recognizing her voice.  I had not seen her since we were kids.  Believe she is several  years younger.  Memories are flowing. Glad you had a pleasant day.

It is so nice to have a warmer day today. I needed the break.  Last night my lab woke me up crying and  shaking her head constantly.  The left ear was real red, so took her to the ER vet in the middle of the night for shot's, meds, etc. Got home at 3:00 am. I have been dealing with some congestion etc since Christmas and was going to wait until Monday to go to the walkin clinic, of course, hoping it would just go away.   My little voice in the head told me to go today, and I have pneumonia.  Sure glad I listened to the little voice.  So the dogs and I will hopefully have a quiet, lay on the couch Sunday.

Hi everyone,

I am sitting in a hotel room in Norfolk, Virginia. Just finished 2 days of filming at the Blackwater Training facility. Weather has been good but cold.

One challenge left to do and that is to get home tomorrow. Airports on the east coast are a pain. Lost a flight when I flew over here and had to be on standby in Atlanta. I hope I won't experience that tomorrow.

Hi Son,
Just logged on here and saw that you had posted.  I hope you have a safe journey home, and your flight is on time.  Russ got here Thursday and he has been here every day for a while, but goes back to his resort by mid afternoon - as he won't drive in the dark.  He is fine and enjoying this nice warm weather we are having -- up in the 70's.
  Safe travels to you.
Much love,

Hi, Jo,
So, is Russ going to spend the rest of the winter months close to where you and Fred are?  That's great to have him down there.  Tell him "Hello."

And, Kjell, I, too, hope that your flight home is a good one.  Flying during the winter months is always "iffy!"  (That's probably not really a word!)

The dog's ear looks much better today and she has enjoyed the warm weather here.  I am doing a Z pack, drinking lots of liquids, teas, etc and have done nothing but lay around on the couch and sleep and watch TV.  The little dog's have been like little hens nesting in my covers and watching over me.  Yes, Diane, the pneumonia is in the left upper lung, so is much milder, at least to me than some of the pneumoia I have had in the past.  Glad I went and caught this early.  Thanks for thinking of me and my Maya dog.

Well it certainly is good to hear that you're feeling better, Roma.  My nephew spent most of Saturday in the hospital, and my sister (his mom) today.  Flu like stuff, dehydration & all that nasty business.  Sissy got several bottles of fluid pumped into her before they'd let her go home tonight around 7, and hopefully she'll have a restful night.  My folks are keeping tabs on both of them, so I'm sure they're following Doctor's orders.

We had a pretty lazy day around here.  Marty and Clay hauled all the Christmas decorations into storage, then put the finishing ties on the dog run Clay put together for me earlier this week.  Now when our grandpuppy, Stoney, comes to visit, he can spend more time outdoors.  He loves running around free (can't do that in downtown Manhattan) but we don't want him to get carried away and get lost or in trouble.  And his big-little brother Bear can't be trusted off the leash at all.

I spent the day scanning photo album pages into the computer.  I got from 1982 to 1987 yesterday, but today only got from 1988 through 1990.  I still have the next 18 years, then the really old stuff to do too from Marty's family history on both sides; and then will go get my folks' albums and do them.  Looks like I'll be at it for several more weeks at this rate, but I want them ALL!  Yep, I'm that kind of person, I want complete sets in order by date, labeled & alphabetized.  My friend calls this a Type A personality.  Much nicer description than some other's I've heard.  ::) :P  ;D ;D

Hope you are all ready to have a great week.  Only 4 more weeks till Ground Hog Day!  ;)

Boy, am I a tired puppy.
Friday I headed up to Topeka and with the weather as cold as it was
my joints have been screaming ever since........Muscles too. I found out
my hips don't like to sit in a car for 3 and 1/2 hours without stopping, and are
paying me back today.

Usually when I go up there I stop at Beto (love the food and the trucks) and that is where I break
when I leave Topeka. But, me being so smart.......when I got to that spot I felt good, didn't need a pit-stop
and I wasn't hungry and just decided to keep moving.

I had planned on heading to Independence and hitting WalMarts before I got home....but when I hit Buffalo
and that junction, I just decided to head over to 400 and fill up at P&Js and come in that way.
Well, when I got out at Howard, I almost looked and acted like I was on a drunk.
My hips locked up and my back was screaming and when I went inside to pay, the guy in there
asked me if  I was ok....and I told him what I did.

Well today I have been playing catchup with the house and bills and enjoying the weather.
Not the moisture. I am sure that is part of my problem.
I had to go back to Howard this morning to pick up Scooter (left him at Doc Blacks and they weren't open when I went through
yesterday) and I needed to stop at bank and saw how big the Zimmerman's funeral home is and
then back to Longton.

Got home and with it being so warm we had to go for our 30 minute walk.......and we may have extended it a bit.
Just felt so good being out in the air.......I think I even heard a cricket or some type of bug making noise..........got to love it.(Weather in Kansas, I mean)

Then the sun came out and I decided to do laundry and hang it on line.
Do you think I have any sense................well, I am wondering.
But, as soon as it is dry and off the line, then I will quite for the day.(Least I won't need to do anything else this week.)
I may need an ambulance later.....but, it sure feels good getting all this done.

Missed all the postings and am playing catch up with that too.
hang in there Roma Jean.....you will feel better soon.
I almost want to go out and sit in the sun.........do you have a window that lets sun shine in that you could sit in it. would make you/me feel so good.

Hugs, you'all and God bless
AOYP

I can feel for you, Judy.  That is what riding a distance does to me.  Today we went to Derby to my doctor for a shot in the arm.  Shoulder, actually.  Old bursitis be acting up prolifically.  Next was a visit to my favorite Wal-Mart at Derby, which might not be my favorite now except for the old employees that still remember me.  It has been remodeled and nothing is where is used to be.  By this time first daughter and I were tired enough we just wanted to head home but there were 2 more stops to make.  One was not prolific, they didn't have what I needed and the other was for the groceries that we can't get at Batson's.  Buying groceries isn't even fun when you are too tired to do anything but follow the list and get out of there.

We got home about 4 and I collapsed into my recliner where I have been for most of the rest of the evening.  My eyes hurt from the sunlight so there won't be any reading tonight.  I think I will just listen to the TV if I can find something worth listening to.  First daughter asked what I wanted to do tomorrow and I told her we might try putting away what we brought in today.

Remember us in your prayers tonight?  The sirens have been going off, off and on since 5:45.  The second storm is now going over with another on the way.  There has been damage to the west of us and then to the east of Springfield.  I live at the West side of town 2 blocks off of Sunshine which is 160.  These storms head up from Monett, Republic etc. and look like they will come right up Sunshine, but almost always go either to the south or north or me, but then one never knows.  I'm so fortunate that the dogs pay no attention to any of this.  Periodically Maya howls with a siren

I have my purse, big flash lights and battery radio in the bathroom in case we have to duck and cover.  I also put my box of raspberry/chocolate truffels I got for Christmas in there, just for comfort food if I need it.  Ha, ha.

Your Kansas warm up came to us today...65 and no wind. I went out on the back deck and enjoyed the sun. Got my vitamin D and smiled a lot. Tomorrow may be even warmer. Thanks for sending it this way. I went back on the "other"forum for awhile (Delaware) today. They really pick on each other's funny spelling errors worse than you all do. They were looking for a flavor of gum and one said something about chewing guys instead of gum. Well, that one really took off. Very funny but all in good fun. Most on it are 'way younger than I, but a good fun group.
Roma Jean, how are you feeling?  Keep up on the fluids. Your meds are great. I've had it too. Jo, most Docs will say any fluid is good, warm fluids in cold weather is best .

Well at my place, just rain with lots of thunder and lightening.  To the West  there has been loss of property, trees down, electricity off down in Republic.  Now flash flood warnings around the area. The small town of Strafford to the East of us on I44 has evidently taken quite a hit.  The TV people can't get in there yet to see what has happened. I know they dug a woman out of her mobile home there earlier and she was alive. Overall there has been about 11 injuries and one fatality reported in the area, still waiting for more details All the programming on the local TV stations has been storm watches and radar.  It's strange there is just one storm after the other, now up to 7.  Now another warning again but to the South of Springfield.  Really started raining very hard here again, so worst so far tonight.  No some major rotations around the town of Ozark right now.   So much for my rambling.  I'll be watching this all night.

Diane, I'm drinking some hot cider with a shot of Crown Royal  .  That ought to loosen something up.

I do hope all the bad weather moves out and you all have normal winter for a while , unless of course that might mean a lot of snow and ice -- you sure don't need any more of that.
We need rain here in south Texas.  It was cloudy all day, temps are in the upper 70's, and we had a shower about 5 PM - then it was over as quick as it started.  At seven we went to the club house and danced until 10. We had six musicians and there were four vocalist that entertained us. We both said we were just going to listen and enjoy the music, and darned if they weren't playing a good old honky tonk song as soon as we walked in and we headed straight for the dance floor, and danced nearly every dance.
Our friends from Wichita arrived today and I love to dance the polka with Norb..and we whipped around the floor a couple of times with that dance.  When we came home, we said again  how tired we were. The older we get the less sense we have.       But we had a great time.

Oh gosh Mama.. I remember when you and Daddy used to dance around in the living room together.
I loved to set back and watch as he whirled you around the floor...I can't even count the times I watched you both dance and each time I have that memory tucked inside my heart.
Then of course he would ask me to dance and I would dance with him ..me thinking I was a fairy princess and he was my knight in shining armor..
( I do  STILL believe that  :) )
I can remember way before Sherri was born when I would stand on his feet and he would dance the 2 step and count
one- one/ two.. one-one/two  all the while he was telling me how to not look at my feet.
He would say, "TeeDee ( his nickname for me) you have to listen to the music, but more important you have to feel the music and you will be a good dancer."
He taught me later as I got older how to waltz.
He taught Sherri how to dance too...and she is a great dancer as well.
My mother taught me how to jitterbug.  ;D
I am a good dancer and can dance about any dance that there is...and have taught lots of people how to swing, 2 step and waltz.
Guess we're just a bunch of dancing fools.. LOL

Weird how something as simple as what my mama said, will trigger memories. Memories that are so vivid that I can feel  daddy's feet under mine and his hand covering my little hand as he counted and moved slowly with his steps so I could "dance"..

When those kinds of thoughts came rushing back just now, it was like 51 years had just disappeared.

have a daughter southeast of Neosho near Rocky Comfort.  She called while I was in the hospital to check on me and I was worried about her.  She said they went to the "ravine" twice during the storms.  Now there is a bridge washed out going north and the road washed out going south so they are hemmed in for a few days.  Said her drive looked like a river going down hill.  Haven't talked to her since this morning.
