Post by: flo on August 03, 2007, 05:57:10 PM
I'm gonna post the recipe and then most of you are going to say "well, I've made those before" but guess you didn't know the "proper" name for them  ;D

METHODIST POTATOES

32 oz pkg. hash browns
1/2 c. plus 2T margarine
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
2 C grated cheddar cheese
1 pt. sour cream
1/2 C. Milk\
1/2 C. green onions, chopped
1 C crushed cornflakes

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Melt 1/2 c. butter and pour into 9x13 pan.  Add 1/2 pkg hash browns.  In a separate bowl mix soup, sour cream, milk and onions.  Pour 1/2 of mixture over hash browns.  Sprinkle with 1/2 of the cheese.  Layer remainder of hash browns, liquid and cheese.  Cover with cornflakes and dot with 2 TBS butter.  Bake 45 minutes.

I got a very similar recipe from a Mormon lady but I am happy to give the Methodists  credit for this fabulous way of doing potatoes.  These cook up great using a Dutch Oven and my Boy Scouts love them.  Something about eating food from a black pot makes a lot of things taste great. Or maybe it is just all the running around we do in camp that makes us starving  ;D

cooked in a black pot sounds good.  I failed to mention that I am a Baptist, but Aunt Vola is a Methodist.  Baptist, Methodist, Mormon, let's just say we are all Christians and that's what counts.  We can all eat the potatoes and right now I have a dish of Methodist Potatoes in the oven baking for the family reunion and I need to shower and get dressed or people will be there and I won't even have the door unlocked yet.  Have a good day everyone.

Don't forget us Presbyterians!  :) :) :)  My mom's grandparents were Morman. And then there's Garrison Keillor's Lutheran "hot dish." It all sounds good to me!   Have a wonderful day Flo.
