Title: user id or real name?
Post by: Kjell H. on July 31, 2007, 05:48:42 PM
When you registered on the forum you may have used either an easy to remember user name or your real name. If you used the first option, you have the option of letting other members see your real name in your posts and still keep the original user id.

Go to your Profile and select "Account Related Settings" (left side menu).

This will take you to a page where you'll find a section called:

Name:
This is the displayed name that people will see.

There, you can type in your real name. All previous and future posts will then have your real name visible.

If you have been a member for awhile and fellow members have gotten used to your user id, you can also type "Real name aka user id".

When the changes has been made, type in your password and click "change profile" button.

Hmmmmm.

In the menu of buttons at the near the top of most screens, starting with the "Home" button, click on the "Profile" button. On the screen that then appears, there are menus at the left. Click on the line that says "Account Related Settings.

There, you will find a text box labeled "Name", the second from the top item. It contains whatever text is currently appearing next to your posts to identify you. If you have never changed it, it will still be the same as your login name. You can erase what is currently in that box and type in different text, and the new text will appear next to all of your posts, and wherever you are identified, like at the bottom of the home screen where it shows who is logged in. All of your old posts will automatically change to the new "screen name" you have selected.

IMPORTANT - This does not change the name you use to log in. You will still need to log in the way you always have.

Because this is a big change, you will need to also enter your current password in the box labeled "Current Password." Then click on the button next to that labeled "Change Profile."

This is how I changed my name from "kdfrawg" to "Kermit."

For Frawg, or Kermit, would that be similar to jumping from one name to the other? All this information is enough to make one "croak".   But thank you anyway.   As long as Frawg doesn't say things like, "Your pad or mine."  I think we can handle it.
