Title: Good Nite All
Post by: flo on June 25, 2007, 10:20:04 PM
Thot we needed an end of the day one also.  Today has been a good one and tonite skipped swimmercize again to watch the granddaughter play ball.  Tournament on right now.  They won Thurs. nite 17-4 and was afraid they might loose tonite, were down 10-7 going into the last inning, but made a come back and won 13-10.  Fun to watch these young girls play and they do get very serious about it.  Courtney and Megan Oldham play on the Severy team and they play all their games in Eureka, so a ways to go to watch them, but worth it.  Time to put these bones to bed.  Nite all and aoyp

Well, I am calling it a day....but for once we had a little bit of good news.  The city council voted and it was 3 to 2 to pass an ordinance to allow restructuring on buildings that were not damaged more than 50%...well...you guessed it our building was damaged 45% and the mayor is furious...he questioned our insurance, our contractors and everything to say that our building did not fall in that catagory, but so far the ordinance is suppose to be in the paper this week and we can start remodeling by Friday or Monday and we should be back in our building by October 1...yippee....the other thing that they said was to hold our breathes because they knew that the mayor would do anything he could to veto this for us...but we will see....but at least now there is hope....Had disaster training all day after the special meeting this morning and my brain and body are worn out....Hope you all had a good day....Night night.

What did you folks do to make the mayor so cranky, Sherri? Is he treating everybody like this, or just the people in your office? And, as long as I'm asking questions that are none of my business, is this the mayor that had to quit being mayor because the stress was too much?

Good Nite to All of You!  As grandma always said.....Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs
bite.  Just another quiet beautiful day in the Ozarks here.  Come home from the office, ride the bike, work out, play with the dogs and thank God for a peaceful day.

He is being this way to most everyone....not sure what is up with him but I think it is called thinking that he has a lot of power....Also, no he is not the one that quit....he was really good but the stress was just to much for him...he tried to build a house in the outskirts of Greensburg and the city would not let him tap into the water for his cement pour so he said fine, bought a lot in Pratt and is building a home there...so that is the way things are rolling right now...It is really sad too because everyday more and more people are moving on out of the town that could be a good town to live in but there is to many people in the kitchen right now....FEMA is one of the problems among the Mayor and outsiders that are trying to dictate to much... :-\

In the end, I wonder if it will be the tornado or the relief efforts that wind up being the destroyer of Greensburg?

Well, I'm saying good night to you all.  I have been off an on here most of the day.  I came back in about 40 minutes ago see if it had quit raining there....  and  forgot I had my grandsons bitrthday cake in the oven....He will be turning 1 years old tommorow.  And now his Mickey Mouse cake is burnt.  OH No!!!  So I will need to start over.  I had set the timer, but forgot to start it.  I hope yu all dry out there sometime soon.

Mickey Mouse cake is burnt!!!!

How drastic that there is a Mickey Mouse cake in this world that is burnt.  That is awful.  I bet it didn't even taste good.

(Sorry, desertlilydarla.  Just had to poke fun at you.)

Mickey Mouse cake burnt and it is still raining here.  And I see that there is a forecast for 60% chance tomorrow.  What is up with all this?  Are we living wrong or what?  I've not seen this much rain in years.  I remember the summer of 1976 here with all the rain prior to 4th of July and then we had a lot of rain in the fall of 1986---we even missed a day of school because of all the rain.  I keep checking my basement to see if it is filling with water, but thank God it is not yet.  I have played out in the rain---well, really worked in the rain, to the point of being completely dripping wet---like I used to as a kid.  I even walked in some flooded ditches.  It really was quite relaxing.  The pool has flooded twice and I have had to drain it down several times.  It seems like such a waste to let all that water go.  The kids would have loved to jump into in flooded like that---just to see it flood the deck.  Hope we get to go swimming again eventually.  Well, I pray that no one is hurt during all this rain and that everyone is dry and safe.  And that all birthday cakes made for any 1 year old from here on out are just perfect.  Good night and God Bless.

emptynest,

I, too, have been out on the rain sodden grass.  My dog, Colonel, does not like going outside and getting wet.  Trying to get him to go outside to do his business has been quite the challenge.

This evening, I put on sandels and took an umbrella, then went to the garden to look at the cucumber plants while Colonel figured out he could go potty in the rain.  Tonight, I went out barefoot and waded in the chilly puddles in the back yard.  If this keeps up, I might walk some ditches tomorrow.  Maybe I can find a clogged tube and unclog it for someone and they will be really, really happy because I am a fool walking in the rain and doing some work.  ha ha

I also wanted to say good night.  I would like to share some work stories, but everynight this week, I have been so tired I just couldn't stay up.  I'm sure when I get the process learned, I won't get so tired from working.  My brain is so filled with information that I just don't know if it can hold anymore.

I will tell you that I really like this job.  It is a challenge and I believe it will remain a challenge until I retire.  They tell me that alot of employees can't take working in segregation and so they will quit.  I believe that I can handle segregation just fine and that this is where God has led me to be.  I believe I'll just settle in and stay awhile.  I'll give you an update on how the work was this last week sometime before the weekend is over.

Well, Janet, since you and I live just a few blocks apart---I bet your ditches could lead to my ditches and vice verse.  If so, maybe we could solve the city's "ditch" problem.  I am a little leary about going barefoot in those ditches, but I may start out at about 11:00.  I'll be the one with the big black lab and a walking stick.  Also, I may have a rope tied around my waist just in case I need to pull away from the current back to my home.

So very happy to hear that your job is fulfilling.  You know that was the plan all along.  Just had to put your trust in the right one, huh?

Good night once again.

Now honestly Janet, do you sing all day long?  Here's another song stuck in my head.  At least I have a choice of songs to cycle through in my mind as I try to go to sleep tonight ~ and why am I humming the theme to Hogan's Heros in between?

Looks like I may get to mow before the 4th after all ~ if my mower wheels don't sink in the bog tomorrow.  Thanks to all for providing interesting reading for me the last hour or so, and WOW!  I'm so thrilled at all the new members.  The videos are great and I've sent them out to several of our friends & relatives that will be interested.  Night all!

I am going to shut down early tonight everyone!
I had both grandkids today all day and it was a non stop day, to say the least.
So I will get my bath ..watch a bit of Andy Griffith and call it a day.

I have an hour and half massage to give a lady in the morning starting at 7, and last nights 3 hours wore off a long long time ago...

I hope you all sleep well and wake up with a smile and positive outlook!

WHAT A NIGHT!... errrr MORNING~!!
Errrr BOTH... as I haven't been to bed yet and it is 5:15 in the morning..!!

Kjell and I had a  video to do for DownRange and it has a Wednesday morning deadline..
(which is now)  But we got it done and itis awesome.. or we think so anyway. ;)
He isn't done yet..as he has 2 more to edit and a podcast to get out. He is STILL up at the office and will be there for a couple more hours.
Poor man, but he was still wide awake when I left 20 minutes ago.

I am going to get a couple hours sleep, (http://www.cascity.com/howard/animations/sleep.gif)
and then I have to be up again as I have more work to do tomorrow. :'

I went to the fireworks tonight at the Howard Lake and I spent my whole night taking video's and pictures so I could make a video and share with all of you on here.,
( I know I know.. aren't I just the nicest person)?  ha ha ha
But that was the easy part.. The work comes in editing and making it enjoyable for you all to watch.
But it is good practice as I have to do it for real and for a paycheck.. *Yippee*.. so it
does me good and I enjoy it.

All I ask is that you are honest with me in the feedback.
( oh yeah.. and brag on me a little bit.. **grinning** )

It was wonderful and the firemen did a bang up job setting them off.

Enough! I HAVE to get to bed,....
I know how I will be when I have to get up...

Bye

Well, thanks to my darling, 4 year old daughter, who dumped a jumbo sized bag of timothy hay all over the living room and dining room in her attempt to give the guinea pig a treat, I was able to get the carpets cleaned this evening and the kitchen swept.

Still haven't gone grocery shopping. Luckily, the kids wanted mac and cheese and fruit for dinner tonight. I had a jelly sandwich, a glass of milk and about 3 packages of fruit snacks.

Tomorrow is another day.

Good night all.

I have been so busy the past few days that I have stayed away from the forum so I COULD get some things done.
Now I have to read tons of stuff to catch up. I am just starting at the top board and checking to see what is "red checked" and new and going from there.
WOW.. what a ton of stuff  has been posted the past 24 hours!
I love it..and if Flo and Mama are the biggest wind bags..well... that's ok.
Without it, I wouldn't have as much to catch up on.. LOL
and I would think that nothing was going on.  ;)

Kjell told me that last week we have had 3,803 visits to our forum...
(771 different computers logged in to our site)
and they opened up 63,700 pages and spent about 12-15 minutes on each visit.
How is THAT for putting us on the map?!  :)

Well, It is once again 2:30 and I need to get some sleep.
We worked up at the office tonight from about 8:30  until midnight.
And I was going to just go to bed then.. buuuutt, the forum was calling my name..  ;D

There is something in the old Hutchinson house or somewhere back there that sounds like an alarm clock giving off 3 short beeps. and it has been going on since we got home! It is annoying the ever loving hell out of me! >:(

We opened the windows all up because there is a great cool breeze tonight and anytime I can have fresh air over a/c already breathed air, I will take it.. but because the windows are opened.. that darned beeping is going to drive me more insane than I already am!

And you know, once you hear it.. that is all you can hear! :P

Oh well, Once Kjell starts snoring.. then that will be all that I can hear..  ::)
then I will concentrating on trying to get him to turn over.. only to have him turn the wrong way ..on my side! ( He really is a bed pig sometimes)

Enough chattering.. I need to check a few more things than I am off to bed.

Night All... :)

I lived in an apartment with a smoke detecter that did that whenever the power went out. made it impossible to sleep when there was a power outage

But the problem is taken care of.. and my ears are very grateful.  :)

Yawwwnnnn~~
It is 1:30 and have decide to get to bed.
Got both flood video's done.. ( 20 some hours in them :P )
But I am pretty proud of how they turned out. But as I said earlier.. we are having major memory problems etc.. soooo Kjell has to take them up to the office in the morning and put them on the website on his big computer...
But I tweaked and fine tuned the first one so long tonight that
I didn't have time to be Chatty Cathy.  :-\

And I still have the stacks of Hardware bookwork to do , and the Mercantile orders and bookwork to do .. Guess I will get up early in the morning and get started, cause my sweet little smiling heart baby will be here at 9.

Hope you all  tucked in and sleeping soundly.... ..
Good night my friends..

Good night everyone.
I have had a huge day today working my tail end off. I have been painting and scraping and ugh.. all those physical things that hurt an old woman like me. LOL

It is midnight and I am now up at the office typing this because Kjell just was at the house and said that our modems went on the blink. So both computers are down at the house. We still have the 2 up here the office , but he has both of these tied up in the day, sooooooooooooo I will be computerless. ( internet-less actually) until we can get them up and running again.
If we are lucky.. it will take one day.. If we are aren't? could be 3 or more. ( which is just dandy, as I will be so far behind that I won't know what end is up)
But I wanted you all to know so you wouldn't think that your "Queen" skipped the castle grounds .

While I am off line for a bit, I will check in on you all on the computer up here at the office at night..
( So don't any of you think for one minute that you can talk about me , and not have me find out!)   :police:

G'night...Sleep tight. and don't let the bed bugs bite.  :-*

Fred and I went to Howard today - Today is Kjell and Teresa's wedding anniversary - we took them out to lunch - and had a great time and as always,  good food at Poplar Pizza.
The bonus was getting to hug and kiss on Baby Mason, did not get to see Ashley,  however - so we were minus a few hugs and kisses there.
The other bonus was....Terrsa showed me their book a gift from Rudy and authored by him.   I read a little of it while waiting for her to take some phone calls, and she said "Mama, take that with you and read it...you will love it".  I fully intended to do that, and Darn!!! I forgot it.  Waaaaaaaaaa.  Anyway, I am sure going to borrow it and I plan to buy my own copy.
They are eager to get the computers up and running again - Teresa said she felt like she was "lost" with out the online contact.
I have to go to work in the morning - so better get the rest of my "forum fix" and get off here.

Nite - Nite  Sleep well my friends.

No ! No! No! Rudy.  You did not hurt my feelings at all.  Just a joke.  You should also know that I grew up in the other suburb of Beaumont.  Some will know it as Latham.  You can tell I have traveled far in my life.

OK, I've been to Latham --- it's waaaaaay out there.  More than 50 years ago, I drove with my parents to a ranch out by Latham to look up an old cowboy friend of my parents, Howard Moore.  We actually found him living in a one-room cabin in the middle of the biggest ranch I've ever seen. He was enjoying life, too.   Never married, just took care of cattle.  I suppose he died many years ago. And, I've driven through Latham a couple times since then, too.

I love small towns.

Sally ... I can't believe you knew Howard Moore. He was a legend in our family, going back to the 1920s with my dad. Together they worked cattle on ranches in Craig County, Okla. On that Sunday afternoon in 1959, they hadn't seen one another in thiryt-some years.

As far as I know they weren't related.  Howard had brothers Roy and Marion that I know of.  Tom grew up and went to school in Latham and his first wife was a Latham girl.  I know they lived in Colorado, ElDorado, Ks., and Latham.  He went to work for MK&O Ranch in 1951.

Back to Howard Moore....The Howard Moore that I knew was from Grenola - in the 1940's and he married a girl by the name of Ruth Barnaby from Longton.  He and his son had a dozer business - and he and Ruth are both deceased - but I do not know anything about his son.  Are they related to the Howard Moore that Rudy and Sally are talking about?
Title: Re: Good Nite All

It could very well be the same Howard Moore.  And, I probably was wrong about his never getting married. But in '59 he was living alone in that prairie cabin.  That's fascinating that you might actually know this cowboy who was the subject of so many cowboy stories when I was a little boy.

I am going to carry the coal oil lamp in to the bedroom - and turn the wick down and blow out the flame...
Yes, Rudy, I related to that first chapter in your book --- I lived that life, as we did not have any electricity until 1949 and I was already married and we were living at Busby in Fred's folks home , and it had butane lights, hung from the ceiling == I thought that was living pretty high on the hog - but I was scared to death of the darn things.  Much rather have the coal oil lamp, and I didn't even mind washing and drying the globe every day.  When we got our first Aladdin lamp the light was so bright, it hurt our eyes.  lol lol
one time while I was cleaning the glass globe on it, I stuck my finger through the mantel - and felt so guilty, we didn't have any extra money to buy things, and I was so ashamed of myself for causing that extra expense.
  The memories ...ohhhhh the memories.

Must be two different Howard Moore's.  The one Rudy's talking about was single always.
Title: Re: Good Nite All
Post by: Rudy Taylor on July 26, 2007, 07:08:59 AM
Jo, isn't it amazing how such simple moments stay with us? Older folks often think I lived through the Great Depression because I write about coal oil lamps, outhouses and no television sets. I didn't.  I was born in 1945.  But for some of us, electricity didn't come our way until the early 1950s.  A woman who works for us at Sedan didn't get electicity in her farm home until 1958 and never had indoor plumbing while she lived at home (graduated from high school i 1967).

Still, there was much more to coal oil lights than simple illumination. There was an ambience created by the light that was cast by the lamps. Remember, we usually had only one lamp per room ... if that many!  Sometimes we carried them from one bedroom to another one.

Without the presence of electricity, it also created a "quiet" home.  We could actually hear each other speak softly to one another. We sang often.  Played simple games.

Still, I love today and wouldn't want to do without today's modern conveniences. But, yes, the memories are golden, aren't they?
Title: Re: Good Nite All
Post by: kdfrawg on July 26, 2007, 07:56:44 AM
Being a city boy, we always had electricity and indoor plumbing (I was born in Omaha in 1947) although I had relatives on farms who didn't, so I got to experience that way of life, too. Still, there are things that I remember which have passed by, such as the milkman and iceman (we had an icebox for years after I was born, as opposed to a refrigerator). But the thing Rudy mentioned that I miss most is the quiet, or rather the lack of a television.

Television came along after I did and I'm afraid I never got the hang of it. There was a period of 17 years in my not-too-distant past when I was single and lived alone and did not own a television. I have never seen an episode of Cheers, Friends, or any of the other myriad "entertainment" programs. Now I watch college basketball games, in season, and the occasional "educational" program. I suppose that is yet another way in which I am a dinosaur. I like books. I like to be involved in my entertainment, rather than just being passive about it. Weird, but true.

;)

Well, Rudy, you know that the lower forms of life don't need things such as electricity and TV sets so they can't miss them.  My 2 televisions are on all day, one on the weather channel with the sound down, the other on, who knows?  I stop once in while to rest and notice what is on, maybe change the channel, watch the news and 2 soap operas, then pick up a book or come to the Forum.  This forum is better entertainment than anything that is on TV.  The reason the TVs are on?  For the company, to tell me the time since I don't have time to look at a clock, so I don't have to turn them on when I stop to rest, maybe to keep me up on current developments.  I would have missed 9-11 if my TV hadn't been on.  I saw the planes hit the towers as someone had the TV cameras turned that way at that moment.  The volume is always low so it isn't interfering with my thoughts even.  Gotta go now, the washer is done and I can start the dishwasher.

For any other lower life forms, those of us (frawgs, especially) who prefer to have to think as a part of our entertainment and even for those who normally don't, I offer a compromise. Reading is not the only medium which requires one to participate in their entertainment. Please take a look at the following:

http://www.radiolovers.com/ (http://www.radiolovers.com/) with thousands of shows.

There are more at the site below, but it requires the Real Player software, of which I am not a big fan.

http://www.otr.net/ (http://www.otr.net/)

There, you will find 12,000 shows from old time radio. It isn't as hard as reading because you don't have to strain your eyes. You can even close your eyes; sometimes it helps. But you still have to make up your own pictures.

I have lived through radio.  My earliest memory of it is hooking the radio up to the car battery.  My younger brother had crystal radio, not very good but did receive programs.  He went on to make a lifetime career of radio and TV repair.  Radio was all I had until we got our first TV in 1955.  First daughter and I still play the radio in the car when on the road.  Her favorite is a PBS station out of Tulsa or Hutchinson, I think.  I have outlived the good entertainment of TV, except for the news and basketball.  I am ready for the FORUM!

My first love was radio. In fact, my mother named me after a little boy on the radio soap opera, "When A Girl Marries." I worked in radio as an announcer, built a crystal radio, too, got a ham radio license at the age of 13 and I still listen to NPR as I work. When I travel in my pickup, the radio is always on.

And I agree --- television is a fine co-habitant when you need to hear someone's voice, or need to know the time, or when you want to watch the news.  As much as I grouse about the boob-tube, I probably watch it 2 to 3 hours each evening.

Here's a dumb thing: I've started leaving the stupid thing on during the night, even though the volume is turned way down.  Am I the only one with that crazy habit?

Post by: Wilma on July 26, 2007, 02:29:59 PM
Maybe, Rudy.  I could never go to sleep until my husband turned off the TV and came to bed, too.  Now, the house has to be dark and silent when I go to bed.  (Bud doesn't count.) but I need to be able to hear what is happening and since my bedroom is just French doors away from the living room everything has to be off.  I even hear when Cardad very silently opens my front storm door and puts the Sunday morning paper inside it.  I wait then until I hear a car door and the car moving away and I know everything is all right.

Speaking of television, can someone tell me why at my house we spent hundreds of dollars to buy a colored TV and then spent more money to buy a dish so we could have a monthly bill to watch black and white TV shows and movies.  I'm sure this makes sense, but I just can't figure out how this makes any sense ??? ??? ??? ??? :-\

I've had one of the best days I have had in months or years..  :)..
It has been quiet and relaxing and just simple and wonderful.
I have only had one phone call and it was at 9 tonight... Kjell had one at 10 ..other than that, the phone has been quiet... Not one person has ask me to do or help with anything..and it has just been the BEST day. ..
( Doesn't take much to make me happy , does it.)  ;)

I got to sleep in .. ( til 10:20) went to Severy to see Cory Koch ( the chiropractor) He got my back and neck adjusted.
Came home .. fixed some cheese and crackers.. watched a movie that I had bought a long time ago and hadn't watched yet.. ( A Family Thing..with Robert Devall ) and then took a 2 hour nap.. got up.. whipped Kjell in a few games of cards ( won $1.30 off him) And now I am surfing on the net reading and gathering MORE information on buying some more Chakra Healing stones.. and then studying and learning more about Pendulum and Dowsing work.
I have way too many interests and not enough time to devote to them.
But today has been a day for "me".. and I can't remember feeling so relaxed and good.
But tomorrow starts early with a massage client coming in at 7 for massage..then Mason all day and 2 massages in the evenings..and a video to work on after that.

Then Tuesday I have a 2 hour massage to give starting at 7.. .....and the week begins.................... :)

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend..

O golden light,
O silver light,
Please, weave your web around me
And protect me through the night.
My day is done, my night begun,
With dreams before me found.
I shall sleep in peace and light,
My protective circle bound.

G'night ... Sweet Dreams.. No Worries.

PS~~ Rudy .. All my massages are not 1 1/2 hrs.. but a good portion of them are. I give 1 hr.. 1 1/2 hr..and 2 hr..  Nothing stopping you from calling and making an appt to see for yourself ya know..  ;)

Rudy, to answer one of your questions a couple pages back - no you are not the only one that leaves the TV on all night with the volume turned down.  First thing I do when I go to bed is turn my bedroom tv on - if there's nothing interesting to watch, I just set the sleep timer - if there is something I want to watch I just leave it on, which is usually the case.  sometimes I get the see the rest of the show - sometimes I go right to sleep - way too quiet at night without the tv on.  I very seldom watch it during the day once the morning news is over, but have it on all day.  Like to hear people talking, I guess.

And I never hardly have mine on. I like to watch FOX news.. and reruns of Andy Griffith and Frazier.. but other than that.. I like the quiet.

We watch morning news - and the weather channel- if it is any thing different than what we can see from our windows - and then reruns in the evening.  I will be glad when the new fall schedule starts, I love game shows and NFL FOOTBALL and college basketball.
All the rest of the time, it is off, off, off.  Quite time is my favorite show..mute that is !

I'm with Flo.  Mine run the whole time I'm home, sometimes louder
than others.  Half the time I don't really watch anything.  I set the TV timer in the bedroom for
90 minutes.  I hate those nights, that the TV goes off just right before I'm asleep.  Then I'm wide
awake and have to start the process over again.  I think it is about hearing voices in the background.

If our electricity goes off at night, I wake up.  The silence shouts at me.

I once lived in the corner apartment on the third floor of a building on California and Arguello in San Francisco, two major thorough-fairs. Two of the other corners were 24-hour service stations. I was within 2 miles of three hospitals. I was within one mile of a police precinct house. Diesel buses ran 24 x 6 on Arguello. Electric, overhead-line trollies ran 24 x 6 on California. There was noise 24 hours a day, almost every day.

Sometimes, early Monday morning when the trollies stopped running for four hours and fate was on my side on the other items, the absolute silence would absolutely jerk me awake.

If there is any kind of noise, I have trouble going to sleep.
I like the quiet so much.... in the day and in the night. It keeps me centered.
Sometimes I really wonder if I could be an excellent recluse .
I don't get bored .. ever...

But I guess after weeks of it, I might want some company.. LOL  ;D

We were out in Nevada once, 'way far from anywhere and the silence was so profound, it hurt my ears, that were straining to pick up something.  My scanner keeps me company.  I think I must be a noise snob. I love bird sounds but hate dogs barking. I love hearing the foxes bark, but hate car horns. I love hearing cows bawling, but hate hearing a stand off between two cats. A horse nickering is a friendly, comforting sound and the growl of a Doberman scares me to death. But I guess that's the whole idea.

I crave the quiet. There is a woman I work with that is so loud that the only time I can really concentrate is when she goes on her breaks. She talks non-stop, and at the top of her lungs. I drive home everyday WITHOUT the radio on, just to have some peace. Then when I get home, I'm constantly telling my family to turn down the TV or the speakers on the computer or whatever. But at night I can't go to sleep without the fan on. Otherwise it's just TOO quiet. Funny, eh?

Toys are great. I have a bunch of little colored foam brains that one of the big vendors of MS drugs always gives away at meetings. I always had some in my office wherever I worked so I could toss some brains to programmers that were acting like they needed some extra.

Good night everyone..
I have had my bath.. I'm heading outside to the hot tub.. (IF I can beat the mosquitoes from latching on to me before I get in.). and then Kjell has promised me a long deep tissue back rub.
I have had both of my little sweethearts all day today and my poor old back is just trashed out.

But I may be all broken down.. but Mason ( 5 1/2 months old) was as precious and happy as ever..
( cause Ashley and I dote on him) and Ashley (5 1/2 years old)  is still my little side kick who has me wrapped around her finger..

With Mason either in my arms or on my hip...She and I made tortillas.. colored and did crafts... we played beauty shop and I did her toes and fingernails with polish and glitter and I taught her to play Crazy 8..and the little card shark legitimately beat me 8 games out of the 12! :o
Dang... Glad she isn't playing poker yet.. ;D

I have to post a picture of them that I took when Mason woke up from his nap.. all smiles of course..
Ash looked at him and leaned over and kissed him and said, "Mee Maw.. isn't he just the cutest thing? Don't we just love him to pieces?" ..

I am truly blessed!

I know Am, and lately I have been thinking about it more and more. I remember how Grandma would play with you and Trev and think about how I am missing all this. I was talking to Lauren,(my running partner) the other day and her daughter and grandkids are here for a visit, I told her I was very jealous that I only get to see mine once a year.  :(   Since we are coming to WA for Christmas, I am in a hurry for the end of the year to get here!  And one week just isn't enough time there. Is anyone else out there far away from grand kids?

We have only been in Kansas for the summer this year, since 1997 and I would get very homesick for the girls, and the grands and great grands, as we would see them in October and April and not very many times even then.  We miss Sherri & Curt and our Tania very much, we are ll still in the same state, but our precious Tania is clear across the state and we miss her VERY MUCH .
Enjoyed the pictures of little Mason and little Ashley who is growing up wayyyyyy too fast.

Our grandkids are all in Texas, but Texas is a BIG state.  We do get to see them several times a year, but it is an 8-hour drive from Midland to Houston, and Tyler where the boys live.  Our daughter is in California, but she doesn't have children, but that would be even farther for us if she did.  We are all (kids and grandkids) getting together this next weekend in Galveston for our annual fun weekend.  Actually, it is 3 days and 4 nights.  We are really looking forward to that!  In the past, we have gotten together in the Hill Country, so this will be a change.

Yes, Debbie, it has been 7 years since my little (not really)  Corey left home for a better life. (HA!)   He loved Lawrence, but gradually as all the guys graduated from KU and left, he was the only one still there.  His fiance just graduated in May, so the jobs for both of them are much more plentiful and pay is better in Kansas City.  So he left and is now near the old cronies once again....Jeff, Kerry, Dustin, and Mike.     I am sure the fiance is just thrilled .... cause those musketeers are quite a combination.

Missouri might be a villain of sorts to Kansans.

Missouri is the only state in the union to change its boundaries after being admitted to the Union. 3,100 square miles were added and it was not the boot heel.

William Allen White always liked to say that Kansas was a big parallelogram with part of the northeast nibbled off.

That nibbled part is what Missouri took from Kanzas.

We patronized the Joe College shop yesterday.  Some of the t-shirts had some words for KSU and Missouri.  I will not repeat them.  Some pretty bad.  Did notice Joe College definitely says they have no affiliation with KU.

I have been in that shop on Mass street, too.  And yes,  there are some pretty "not so nice" words about K-State and Missouri----they mince no words.  Some are quite funny.   No affiliation with KU but several KU students and others buy out certain shirts.........Been known to buy a couple myself  to give as gifts.  (Not the naughty ones)

I feel for you Rudy.  A year ago I suddenly had a ringing in my ears that seriously concerned me, it never seemed to go away!  I got in to see an ear doctor, and after the testing he told me that the GOOD news is that the ringing is not caused by a brain tumor.  HA! The bad news was that I was just getting older; the ringing was tinnitus and I'd have to learn to deal with it.  He was really a pretty funny guy ~ I can say that now :P.  Anyhow, after getting confirmation that I wasn't suffering from anything deadly, I quit worrying about it so much and learned to ignore it most of the time.  Now it only really bugs me when I'm very tired or overly stressed.

Believe me, you WILL get accustomed to the sound in your ears. And, yes, it does seem to bother me most after a stressful day.

It's always there if you just stop and think about it.  And, it does affect your overall hearing.  In my case, it cancels out high frequency sounds. I often do not hear sirens, even cell phones (that's a pleasant advantage), etc.

But compared to the problems that so many of my friends have ... tinnitus is nothing at all.

Nice to post with you Joanna.

My wife gets a bit jealous of the forum sometimes. But I notice she likes to take a peek at the
posts herself.  I've tried to get her to sign on, but no luck.

Our daughter, Jenny, is also a stalker.

I think they're just keeping an eye on the old boy to make sure he behaves himself.

Hope you have a great day tomorrow, Flo, and they're not too rough on you out there at that high school.  We grade school teachers (I'm not sure of the other staff) are meeting all day at Moline Elementary.  I spent the entire day today in my classroom up at Severy (my home for the past 26 years).  Pulling out all my "stuff" is like meeting with an old friend.  All my little collections have served me well after all these years.  So many little hands and minds have used the dog-eared a-b-c's and touched the good old readers that I can't bring myself to give up.   I still have a way to go on my classroom, because I try to make it look a little different each year (as much for my own sanity as I do for my new students).  I ususally find one new thing each summer that is my motivational item/or idea that gets me excited or in the mood for a new year.  This year it's something I have made from PVC pipe all on my own for my students to read and hear themselves at the same time.  It's the coolest thing---I saw them at a National Teacher's Convention and decided I wasn't going to spend $2.95 a piece for them when I could make 18 of them myself.  So I got some pipe and some connectors and got out my saw and started my husband's grinder and away I went.  I was right proud of myself when I finished.  I now have phonics phones for each student.  A labor of love.

And you won't believe what I did with little baby sink plungers.  THey suck to the student's desks and those pool noodles that you can get in all colors with holes in them?  Well, I used an electric knife on those and sliced up pool noodles into rings and slid them right onto the plunger handles and whaaalaaa! you have a personal abacus for each desk!!!! I am so excited to let my students see and use these things---we may have to have an activity the first day!!!!

Enough already........I better get to bed--tomorrow we learn a new computer gradebook called GoEdu and it could be mind-boggling.  Sitting all day for 8 hours after getting to spend every day out in the sun poolside----a little hard to get used to.

Good night and God Bless.                         Mrs. Susan Galvan

Those "phonics phones" are so neat--I've used them in the classroom, and it is a real confidence booster.  Keeps the classroom quieter too!  These are the days when I miss getting ready for a new group of students.  However,  I don't miss all the extras that teachers are required to be responsible for and all the paperwork and testing and inservice that take so much precious time away from actually teaching the kids.

Have a great year!!!!  1st grade teachers are a special gift from God!  What an important year for those little people who are so eager to soak up all you have to offer!  Good Luck!

Susan, you are making it so fun for your students.  No wonder they think you are just the greatest teacher ever, and you might well be.  Today was a long one for me, due to my scheduling these past two years of do it if I want to, if not, wait till tomorrow.  Had inservice this morning then after lunch we para's just worked in the room.  By the way, I was told they had hired a substitute music teacher for elementary music.  That so????

Yes, Flo, they have hired a long term substitue for elementary music.  She will be with us at least until December.  After that they (???) expect to have newly graduated students apply.

The sub has been granted an emergency certificate from what I understand.  She is not necessarily musically inclined according to her own words to me this morning.  She has learned to play 1 song on the piano (it's a start) and sang in a choir once.  I am not putting her down---I just don't want the students to be let down..... All we can do is hope and pray and I thank those of you that thought about it and supported keeping music in the grade schools.

Flo, do you have to go Monday?  All the Severy and Moline paras do not. If you do, I will see you as we all spend the day at the high school on Monday.

no, Susan, I won't be there on Monday.  AND how can someone teach music if they don't know music? Is this a college student or what? I just always figured knowing how to play the piano and sign was most important.  Guess now they play CD's for that, tho.  Anyhow, the kids will be exposed to music (I hope).  Just got a call and need to get out my notary stamp and look official, so have a good day everyone.

I'm going to bed tonight feeling so blessed.  I got home, opened the front door and of course the dogs ran out.  I made a phone call or two and went to get something out of the car and realized that I had not closed my front gates.
(I think the heat has fried my brain).  The big dog was still in the yard, but the two little ones were gone.
Of course, I began calling and driving up and down the streets in every direction while calling all my neighbors on the cell phone.  Would you believe, I found Bingo one block west.  As I was slowly driving home with him, still looking for Chloe, some car I had never seen before started coming towards me.  Then the guy started waving, ( I must have had that frantic lost my dog look), stopped and said "Are you looking for this?", and held her up.   He had found her a block east of my house and was going
to take her home and call the numbers on her tag.
I can't imagine how I could go to bed and sleep tonight if they werent' there.  I think the little dog angels were with us all today.  Good Nite.

Speaking of dogs and peeps.  Night before last Chloe, (Jack Russell), jumped in bed and laid down.  I'm on the phone with a friend.  I begin to here this loud sort of insect chirping sound.  It sounded like it was in the bed but I couldn't find it. I finally realized that Chloe had a huge, flying Circadia bug hanging out her mouth.  I rushed her outside and  rescued the big bug.

A few minutes later the little dogs wanted back in.  This time I checked Chloe at the door.  She looked up at me, tail wagging, and mouth perfectly closed. I thought, fine......   Again she jumped up on the bed.............and low and behold I began to hear the same sound again, only muffled.

You guessed it.   I pried her mouth open and there was the Circadia again.  This time she had the entire bug in her mouth and her mouth closed.  Life with dogs is so much fun.

That is so funny!  I could see our dog doing that too! Squirt is half Jack Russel, and she loves to chase the cicadas.  If she catches one she takes it out to the driveway and tosses it up, then sets with her front down and her rear up wagging, waiting for it to try to get away.  I'd have to have a serious talk and shake my finger at her if she tried bringing one indoors though.  Ugh!  Marty said it's a 7th year and that's why there are so very many this season.  I'm about ready for them to crawl back underground!
Title: Re: Good Nite All

I can't remember noticing them for a long time and all of sudden his year they are gigantic.  It's good to know that the Jack Russell's got the Circadian kill gene.  My little Bingo dog specializes in birds, snakes and mice.  Between the two of them, I would never consider a doggie door.

The shower thing must be another trait.  Chloe jumps in the shower as well.  She loves the water.  I try to shower in the morning while the dogs are out so that I don't end up with paw prints all over the tub. It's especially funny when she decides to jump on the side of the tub with wet paws and falls back in.  Every one says they are quirky little dogs and I agree, but what comedians.

Kermit, no we don't have a poetry column in our newspaper. Fact is, we usually turn
down poems when people send them in. The biggest reason is that some get too emotional,
especially after the passing of a loved one.  I received one that was 15 pages
long, written in long hand. The writer was furious when I returned it to her.

So, most newspapers have a policy of not printing poetry.  I've often thought about
opening those doors once a year and let 'em have at it. I've read some very good
lines on this forum, including Diane's most recent one.  But then, Diane is fancy.
We're plain.

Diane sure doesn't see herself as "fancy."  Our big daily paper from Wilmington does print those sorrowful poems, for a price.  I do write simple poems on occassion, usually, but not always, for kids.

It's been a horribly busy week past. I worked 7 days in a row, got one day off, but ended up having talk my boss through a proceedure over the phone that day. Then when I returned to work the next day, my boss told us that data entry was to be first priority. I did not get ANYTHING else done all week long. On Friday, I went to her boss to complain, and stayed 3 hours over to get my stuff done.

This morning my husband leaving for a mission, and wouldn't you know it, he waited until the morning of to pack his bags. He was running all over the house, yelling at me and the kids cause he couldn't find his PT uniform. And of course, that was our fault because the kids are messy and I never put his things away where he can find them. Oh, and here's the topper... He is the ONLY one that cleans up after himself. This he said to me as he was standing in front of his computer desk, which has to have a folding utility table next to for all of his crap because he never throws anything away. I just looked at him, turned around and left the room.

So, after he left, I went shopping. The house is getting a make-over while he's gone.

Well, time to get some dinner going for me and the kids.

Night all.

Good late evening friends..
Had a good night tonight..
Took Don & Liz Marchant out for their anniversary supper at Flint Oak..and had a great evening.
Back home and now going to do some computering.. I am working on the video of Merle Haggard that I took when we went to his concert a few weeks ago.
Kinda hard to edit, as people walked in front of me.. drunks hollering and me getting bumped every now and then.. But I will get one done. It might be a tiny one.. but even a little bit of Merle is better than nothing at all.  ;D
Have top get up early. I have a Dr. appt in the morning at El Dorado and then on to Wichita where I need to look at divans and some other things..
Hope everyone is sleeping all sound in their beds and those of you who are still up.. well I hope you sleep good when you finally go to bed.

Night all.

Rudy. Yes the public can use the dining part. Unless you are a member, you can't have drinks..unless you add them to a members tab and the members are there.
( I think)
From Sept 1st to ? it is closed to the public.
Even those of us who have social memberships can not eat there at that time.
You have to have a full membership (4,000.00 a yr) or a corp. membership ( 6,000.00 yr)
Too rich for my blood..
but the social memberships are 120.00 for 6 months. That is a little better...
Now.. if you have a social membership, you HAVE to eat there at least once a month or they charge your account 35.00..whether you eat or not.. so it is a sure fire way to get you to eat and drink at least once a month..  ;)
There seafood buffet once a month is absolutely to die for.. so is their prime rib buffet. IN fact , their food is awesome..

Bonnie.. we went to the Cotillion in Wichita...

Diane.. Plans are in the process for our little cottage in town.. LOL

Diane, I am sorry to hear that your husband has melanoma.  I know what you could be in for and sincerely hope that the surgery did get it in time.  Whatever happens, remember that we here in Elk County, Kansas are with you in spirit.

Thanks, Wilma. They seem confident that it was caught very early and didn't get down very far but this next biopsy will tell the tale. They took off 5 that looked suspicious and only the one was malignant. But it does mean he'll have to start being checked every 6 months or so. The poor guy always has something to deal with.

Had a huge day today. Been gone all day long and got home around 8:00 this evening. Kjell and I took Mason with us today and he (Mason) and I went to the Chiropractor. We then headed into Wichita to pick up some supplies for Mark at the siding place.
Then we went to a few other places and the best part was we ate at Jimmy's Diner.
I love that place.
They have wonderful food. I had 2 pork chops and 2 big  orders of fried mush.
Wonderful.  :)
Kjell had chicken fried steak and potatoes .
Mason had carrots, applesauce and cereal.. lol

I am ready for bed.. but I have a bit more stuff to do, so I will finish up and then off to dreamland..

and I am going to bed...and read for awhile.
I have been down with a virus the last 2 days and I still feel like dog poo.

Throat feels like someone swabbed it with jalapeño juice and my bones ache all over with a headache off and on and I have absolutely NO power. My feet, ankles and calves of my legs are fat and swollen ( like when I was pregnant.) Other than all of that ... I feel like a million bucks!  ;D

So am bidding you all a farewell for the evening..

Well it is 11:00 and we have had a full day.
To start out.. I have been sick with a horrible head cold since Tuesday. I have done no massages and Rochelle and I have kept Mason away from me for fear that he will get it.
She has taken the week off and I have stayed inside and gone through 4 boxes of Kleenex.. a half bottle of pure Eucalyptus oil spray to keep my sinuses from blowing my head apart.
I have had an eye Dr appt for 3 weeks and I didn't want to miss it, so off we went to Coffeville where I had my appt. got bifocal glasses ordered ( they will be here Wednesday) and then we headed back to Independence. Messengers was having a sale on furniture and I wanted to go in and look at divans and recliners.
Well, we did more than look. We bought a sofa with 2 built in recliners, and a Lazyboy rocker recliner, a really cool large end table with long straps and buckle like deal on it.. and a dining room table and 4 chairs.
So guess we are set with some furniture for the new house.
I have a great solid oak kitchen table with 4 chairs  that I bought 2 years ago.. but I wanted one for the dining room.. so I really like this one. Guess I will sell my kitchen table and chairs cause I don't have room for both.
Then we stopped at Walmart and bought an 18 pc fried chicken, some baked beans and some twice baked potatoes..and took off for Mama and Daddy's campsite.
We had a wonderful evening laughing and eating and visiting with them and then we came home. Got stuff unloaded and I am now in my night shirt and have my chest sprayed with Eucalyptus and have sneezed about a million times and already gone through a half box of Kleenex on my poor old sore nose...but I had a great day and now am ready to go to bed.

Good night everyone.. sweet dreams...

Well, the day is done and I am more than ready to hit the hay.
Didn't get everything done that we wanted to, but that is ok...I'll go to bed in a bit and get up early and get started and maybe have a bunch done before my little angel boy Mason gets here by 8:45.

I did get my new glasses.. and I don't know if I am sold on them or not. I have my magnifying glasses on right now. I'm afraid I am going to have to use them when I work on the computer. The reason is:
The kind of bifocals they got for me is the ones with the invisible line.. BUT.. ( here is the crappy part) there is just a small window in the middle of the bifocal part that is "bifocal".
The other parts on both sides are blurry.
Go figure!
So you can't look or glance to the side and see. You have to turn your head and then kinda "find" that spot and then look.
And where the invisible line of the bifocal part starts, it is too high. So when I look out, I have to kind of drop my head a little bit.
Very un-natural for me ..
I am not good with change of any kind, and my patience is very limited to having to get used to anything new or different.
So I can't really say I hate them..( yet) but I am close to not liking them much.
But I promised myself that I would give them a try through out the weekend.. then if I can't get used to them the way that they are, I will call them and I will have the ones with the line in them I guess and the bifocal part clear across.
( Why they can't give me the full bifocal part clear across the bottom without the line is beyond me. ..cause that is really what I want)
but we will see....
We Took Mason with us to Coffeville today and he is such a jewel to take places. He had his first teething biscuit and man oh man ..did he love that.
The longer he chewed on it, the softer and soggier it go. He got it in his hair and all over his face and hands and arms and clothes. LOL
So in the Pizza Hut bathroom, I virtually bathed him and changed his clothes..But he didn't care.. he was happy.

On the way home between Moline and Sedan, there was a semi truck and trailer that went off the road and was turned over on its side. By the black marks on the road, it looked like his tires went over the edge and he couldn't get it back.. either that or he went to sleep.. Haven't heard anything about it.

Picked up Ashley from Moline  school today and she was with me tonight until almost 8. She loves school and it is amazing to me what they are having them do in Kindergarten. Writing and numbers and all kinds of stuff that we didn't do until about 1st grade.
The little pistol is going to be a card shark. She beat me a few games of Crazy 8..and the ones I beat , I had to work hard at. She holds those crazy 8 cards until the end and then just hammers me with them..  ;D
( That was why I didn't get the rest of the guttering done.. but time spent with her is more important than the guttering being washed.  ;))
Well, I have blabbed long enough... Better get to bed if I am going to get up with the chickens..

How was your day today?

I've got lineless bifocals, and they work great for me.  The bottom bifocal goes clear across the bottom, and you shouldn't have to struggle to get focused.  My vision is REALLY BAD, and I use these glasses for everything, including the computer.  Give them a try, and then complain if they don't work for you.  Just an opinion........

Teresa, I know exactly how you feel.   I am still trying to get used to the new glasses I got less than a year ago.  I have to have trifocals and I did pretty good with them as long as the focal parts went all the way across the bottom of the lens.  This time they told me I couldn't get those any more and had to go with the partial bit.  I got the biggest focals available but I still have to move my head instead of my eyes to see and as for reading, there is no comfortable place for the book.  Either it is too high or too low and my head goes up and down like a bobble head.  Quite tiring.  I don't mind the line because if the glasses are adjusted right, it becomes invisible.  But the reading bit is too low and the distance bit is too high.

Post by: frawin on September 21, 2007, 07:44:18 AM
Teresa, I have no-line trifocals and have worn them for many years!!!  For me, they are much easier to use and especially with the computer.  It sounds like your glasses are either not adjusted on your face correctly, or perhaps they lenses need to be prepared differently.  For me, I have to have the mid-point, and lower-point lower than they normally put them.  If they make them for me like most people, I am looking through the mid-point (tri-focal).  It is most uncomfortable, and makes my eyes pull.  Don't give up until you have them readjusted, or perhaps talk to them about how the corrections are actually positioned in the lenses.

I can't imagine just having a little square for the bifocal, either.  I have worn no line bifocals for years and love them.  I have the line a little higher on mine because of doing acupuncture and using the lap top all the time, but it
is all across the bottom.  Perhaps whoever sold them to you was trying something new and wanted to see how it
would work out.  If you don't start to adjust to them within a few days,by golly, I'd go back and get what I wanted.
(I always hate it when I say what I want and someone else thinks they have a better "what I want").

Post by: Teresa on September 21, 2007, 10:49:22 PM
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and sharing what you have.
They told me that they couldn't give me the bifocals with no lines. That if I got the half and half..I would have a line because it is ground in.
Maybe I misunderstood.. They were wonderful there and told me to try them and if I didn't like them to bring them back and they would keep trying until I got something that would work..
I am going to go back on Tuesday I think.. The distance vision isn't right either. I still think I should be seeing sharper than I do.. and I am going to get the half and half.. line or no line..
I have really weird eyesight .. I really like Dr Rettele, so I am confident that I will get it straightened out.

I had a very busy day today.. It is just too much to write about.. but I will say that in the middle of doing 100 things all day I did manage to make and cook Derek's birthday supper and it was delicious! We all went to Marks and ate there, so it was a good family time.
But get this.. Kjell couldn't get over how much my family eats. We came home and we were putting the leftovers in the fridge, he said..
" I only ate this much and that much.. Is THAT ALL the food that was left??"
I have to laugh..
Let me tell you .. My family eats!

I boiled 2 full chickens ( and a bunch of bony pieces that I saved for broth making) and made 12 eggs ( 8 cups of flour)  into noodles..and peeled about 7# of potatoes and mashed them. I made 18 LARGE crescent rolls  And a Norwegian cake for dessert.

I had about 2 cups of potatoes left... 3 cups of noodles, 2 rolls, and half a cake.
My family have always been huge eaters and when we have BBQ's and cook outs there is always plenty of food set before everyone. No one ever leaves my table hungry.  ;D
***As you can tell by the way we are all shaped***  ;D :D

Kjell and I have  huge day tomorrow. I start out doing a massage early in the morning and then the rest of the day we are going to go over and work and paint on the house.
But I am excited to get started on it.  I will take before and after pics.
The little house is already sided, but the windows were not wrapped ( who knows why they weren't  ::) ) So we are going to trim them out in a color, but I don't know what one yet..
( But my mama will have to approve.. )  ;D ;D hahaha( private joke)

But I will share the pics of what it is and what we change on it..when we are all done.

Need to get to bed...
Hope everyone sleeps well.

well, now my two cents worth on the glasses.  I was in trifocals for years. *(bifocals before that)  If you have to move your head to get rid of the line, then they are not adjusted to your face right.  You should only have to move your eyes to look through the top, middle or bottom.  When you look straight ahead, you should not see but the top part.  Course, now I have had cataracts removed and lens implants so don't wear glasses at all except to read and the opt. told me just go to Wal-mart and get some cheap glasses that work which is what I did. (can't say they were exactly cheap, tho)  Now have about 4 pair - one at the computer, one in my purse, one at work and one that I can't find.  ::) - anyhow, ask for an adjustment -
Title: Re: Good Nite All
Post by: Ms Bear on September 22, 2007, 04:56:38 PM
Teresa and Wilma, I agree with Flo.  If you have to move your head to see your bifocals or trifocals are not right.  And if the frames you picked out were not adjusted to you before they measured for the placement of the lens they are not going to be right.  It should not make you tired or strain your eyes to read or see.  Hope you will go back and insist on getting them fixed.

I have had cataract surgery so I don't wear glasses anymore but because I spend a lot of time on the computer I have monovision lens implants.  The left eye is for reading and computer, the right eye is for distance.  Very hard to get used to but now I really like them.

Ms. Bear,

My contacts are monovision, and you're right, it did take awhile to get the old brain programmed to use one for close up and one for distance.  I love them now though.  My glasses are no line bifocals, and I don't have any trouble switching from one to the other.
Title: Re: Good Nite All
Post by: Wilma on September 22, 2007, 05:26:04 PM
I had hopes of no glasses after my cataract surgery, but that surgery doesn't correct astigmatism.  Astigmatism was my first problem with vision.  Then came the bifocals, then the trifocals.  I see my eye doctor next month and I will get something done.
Title: Re: Good Nite All
Post by: dandymomma on September 22, 2007, 11:19:23 PM
Nope, the only thing for astigmatism is laser eye surgery. As nice as it would be to wear non-perscription sunglasses, I just can't bring myself to have my eyes operated on, laser or not. I'm kinda squeemish that way.

Reminds me of when the doctor found a cyst in my breast. After my husband and I got back from my mammogram appointment he tells me he wants to feel the lump. I showed him where it was and he just kept pushing it around under my skin. BLECH!!! Stuff like that just creeps me out!!!

Had the eye surgery several years ago to correct my near-sightedness.  I wore glasses/contacts, but haven't had to since. Mine is a success story as I haven't needed to wear anything prescription.  First thing in the morning small print is a little blurry, but then after only 5 hours of sleep, what isn't? At this point in my life, those are the only 2 parts I want anyone to mess with anyway.

Post by: Teresa on September 23, 2007, 09:02:35 PM
Well, it has been a VERY busy day and I am more than ready to get in the hot tub for a bit and then get my sore tired body to bed.
Mark, Kjell and I worked non stop today from 10:00 - 3:30 at the "farm" cleaning and pressure washing the inside of the big container that was flooded. Lost 700# of charcoal.. It was all busted and had 'melted' all over the floor and then we had chemicals that had spilled and all the stuff was rusted and ...ohhh ..it was a nightmare mess. Had to scoop shovel all the crap that was on the floor and haul it off.
So we took everything out and sorted and kept and threw away. Then we loaded up all the trash and bagged it up.

Then while Mark  pressure washed the inside of the container..( which is an old railroad car)  Kjell and I went out and bailed water out of 2 of the tin boats that were still clear full of water, and leaves and slime and mosquitoes. YUCK! Then we drug them back up to camp. Picked up more big pieces of wood that had floated in the woods. We picked up and washed off about 15 huge pieces of ridged sheet metal and loaded it in a  flat bed trailer.
Then Kjell got on the end of the pressure washer and Mark and I brought every item that we saved from the container over and Kjell pressure washed it and then we carried it back into the container for storage.
I took the pressure washer and washed off the tractor and bush hog. I had grease and dirt and oil splatters all over me. IN my hair and in my eyes and everywhere. ( Kjell took a picture of me ;D)
Plus cleaned up all the campsite and stacked chairs and gathered up more trash that the wind had carried off.
Whew.. we were all worn slick.
Then I had to come home take a shower, and fix a couple dishes to take to Jerald and Barbie's for the get together they were having for supper.
Tomorrow is another day and we have to go work some more on the outside painting of our other house.. But I will worry about that tomorrow.. Right now I am just ready for my beddy bye bye. (http://www.cascity.com/howard/animations/yawn.gif)
G'night.

PS~ I am attaching a few of the pics of us today.

I'm just stubborn, I guess. I've had prescription glasses since my early 20's and probably haven't worn them 20 times since; though I do get them updated every 5 years or so.  Ha!  I can get by without them and still pass my driving tests, so I just leave them in the glove box.  If they'd have had that laser surgery available when I was younger, I'm sure I'd have tried to get it done.  Now I'm so close to needing reading glasses it wouldn't save me much trouble... Of course I'm stubborn about that too...  I actually do need reading glasses for some things, but only use them when I can't avoid it.

I got a little done on the house this weekend, mostly primer, but a couple new spots of test color.  Some day we'll have to choose. but I've got gallons more primer to put on so I can keep testing new colors for a bit longer.  All my guys were gone most of the day, so the dog watched me paint, then we both rested a while.  Did a little housework and that's about it.  The cat and I aren't getting along well now ~ both of us want to be the boss and we're having a standoff.  >:( She can stare me down pretty easy, but I'm bigger & can put her outside.  Yep, kind of reminds you of that Fred Flinstone cartoon ~  and that's just about how much luck I'm having too.  HA!

Hope you all had a good weekend.  Lynne & Terrell stopped by & gave me a little of the bean salad they'd made for the picnic.  It's delicious.  I've sure enjoyed the weather lately, though I've got a bumper crop of mosquitoes.  The only good thing about winter (to me) is that the bugs all go into hiding.  And it makes me appreciate summer. Okay, that's two good things, but that's it.

Have a good night and I hope today was the start of a great week for all of you...

(That's my wicked witch laugh, it's really better in person. :-\  ::)) I didn't mean to worry you Teresa, and:  No ~ Terrell & Lynne knew, they are the ones that told me when I saw them on Friday afternoon at the grocery store.  They'd just made the salad early so it would have time to marinate...

Now, when it comes time to decide what color trim you want on your house, you can quick look at the rainbow I've got going on over here to see  if  any of these work for you. Of course we're planning white trim with a colored house, so you'll have to think backwards.  Yeeks!  Marty was working out of town all weekend, so I think I'll run get a little "bistro orange" to splash on one section and mess with him a little (that color is a family joke)

We were sorry to hear the picnic was canceled, but made good use of the afternoon anyway. Like you Teresa, we were "mucking" out a couple of old buildings: the house and garage just south of Harmony, which we bought Friday afternoon. I know....we need our heads examined, but we do believe it was a wise purchase. Terrell says if we buy one more house, we'll be able to buy a hotel, but I think the rules are four houses, not three. All I know for sure is we need to be passing "Go" pretty soon so we can collect our $$$ for the next round of play! LOL

PS: Glad you liked the bean salad, Joanna. We gave some to Kevin Mitchell too, so we had just a dab of leftovers to take home.

Well, I've been on here and blabbed on several topics, so guess it is time I gave it a rest.
I hope everyone gets some much needed rest and peaceful sleep tonight.  It has been a nice cool fall day here today, had a shower and that always makes the air nice and fresh -- Fred is going to Howard tomorrow -- I am facing a mountain of ironing   welllllllllllll not quite a mountain, but looks like a sizeable hill to me, so I will stay here and get some needed things done.  I made a big pan of Oatmeal carmelettes bars and took to the office and let everyone have some treats --- We will be gone from here before Halloween - so my Trick or Treats have to be done early.  The homes around Independence are decorated so nice -- Dee Gee and his lovely lady have their yard all Jazzed up with pumpkins - scarecrow and bales of hay.  It looks GREAT
Guess I will call it a day - watched Dancing with the Stars and then decided I would rather be on the forum, so I turned off the TV  I try so hard to watch the GARBAGE that is on, but just can't seem to make myself enjoy very many of the new shows.  Guess I really am getting old and crotchy.
Nite all~~~`Sleep well -- Angel kisses on your cheeks.

Oh, sally, I'm sorry to hear about your bloodhound.  I always wanted one of those, but never got the nerve up to try and deal with the "hound" odor.  I'm sure you will miss him.  Dogs are such a delight for anyone.  I never have figured out how someone can be scared of dogs.  Cry the tears for him because you will miss him.  Remember, though, God gives us our dogs back when we go to Heaven.  They meet us on the "Rainbow Bridge."

He is running and baying at the moon on the other side Sally..and he will be greeting you when it is your time to cross over.
You know, I still once an awhile hear my little poodle, Taffy, jump on my bed and lay down. Her bell on her collar was a different one and made it's own distinct sound. She has been gone 3 years now and I have heard her about 4 times. I think our pets still like to come and be around us once and awhile.

Thursday I headed to Grove, OK to meet up with my YaYa sisters which I have spoken of before.  We had a wonderful time.  We played a great board game/card game called Sequence.  I loved it and will start a little group here.
Jo, I found a place, but can't remember the name, in Grove that had some flour sack dish towels. I can't remember the name of the place, but it is in a house, on a corner across from a decorating shop.  Anyway, next time you go down there maybe you can find it.  I believe the house is painted either blue or purple.  (Rambling as usual).  We ate a place called Caffe Tarimisu.  The food was excellent and the desserts where just the best.
Friday we went on to Chanute, KS for the 45th High school reunion.  What a wonderful time.  However, we rode on a flatbed truck and sat on bales of hay for the parade on Saturday.  I breathed all of that in and within an hour had laryngitis and couldn't speak above a whisper.  I ran around the banquet Saturday night with a legal pad to write my conversation on.  No way I would miss the party.  Drove home yesterday, went to the clinic, picked up the dogs and crashed.  Worked today, but am more than ready to crawl under the covers.  I feel so blessed to have my old friends and to keep collecting new ones.  Can't wait till we have our gathering.  Good night Elk Co.

The Tarimisu at the Caffe Tarimisu was the best we've every had.  The mint cheesecake was so yummy as well.

Boy am I cranky tonight.  My good Gateway laptop, two years old, had to have a new keyboard and touch pad installed last month.  I got it back and within two weeks it was doing all kinds of weird stuff that I have never had any computer do, I took it back to Best Buy they kept it overnight, made some adjustment and pronounced it a software setting.  I picked it up last Wed night and then took off on my trip.  Last night as I was uploading pictures from the trip it started doing some weird things again.
When I got home tonight and turned it on, it started beeping incessantly and I couldn't even get it to shut down.  I ran it
out to Best Buy in the rain at 8:00pm and as I was showing them what was happening, the screen went out.  Yikes.  They are sending it back to have it all replaced for the second time.  Thank God it is under warrenty, but wonder, if they can't fix it
right the first time  can they do any better this time?

I'm back to using my six year old ACER laptop which may actually outlive the two year old.  So......... Thank God for the ACER.  Thanks for listening to the rant.  I'm off to bed.

I am leaving in about an hour for a trip to CO with my sister.  One night we will be staying in hotel in Central City that is suppose to be haunted.  I lived in the city for a couple of years in the 60's.  Never heard about it being haunted then.  But it wasn't a hotel then either. They give a tour about the haunting which should be fun.   We are taking two laptops so we can check in but hopefully we will be so busy that we won't.  Not sure when we will be back.  We will hit some slot machines so may be back real soon. Later..................

I am not aware of a haunted place either but I do not stay long enough to find out.

Before Central City became a gambling Mecca, a movie company filmed The Duchess and Dirt Water Fox, a western comedy, starring Goldie Hawn and George Segal.

Dirt was hauled in to cover each of the streets. There were no modern buildings in the town. Central City was supposed to be San Francisco and the photographic back screen used with the street scenes was of the Pacific Ocean docks with sailing mast schooners at anchor. Since Central City has steep streets, it filled the bill just fine.

The movie has a good amount of action. During one of the bad guy/good guy chases down several town streets one can see plainly a sign with large letters saying "Idaho Springs" with an arrow pointing in the proper direction and "Georgetown" with an arrow. Both towns are just a few miles from Central City.

Before gambling, Central City was the major area  with Black Hawk less than an eighth of a mile away just a blip. Since gambling took over, Black Hawk is the major area and Central City just a blip in comparison. That is not to say it is not a good place to visit.

The reason for the reversal comes from the fact that when coming from Denver on US 6, Black Hawk was the first gambling town and everyone stopped. People just did not seem to get the rest of the way up the street to Central City. At one point, the town was down to four casinos.

Within the last two or three years, the town of Central City constructed a four-lane expressway through the mountains directly from I-70 to Central City. Black Hawk tried to stop construction but failed.

Cars taking that route now come to Central City first. The road has helped some but Black Hawk still prevails.

Here we are in CO- cooler too.  My cousin was in the Duchess and the Dirt Water Fox.  Only a short bar scene and much of it was cut.  He was one of the locals.

The gambling in Central and Blackhawk is a sore spot with the locals.  Central voted to keep the city as natural as possible and to retain the history and only iin the business area.  My grandparents lived on the Casey in Central for many years.  After they passed my uncle took it over.  The home was paid for for years but when gambling came in the property tax made it almost impossible for him to survive. Many of the locals left.  I have one cousin who works in Central but was born there but now lives in Littleton.

We spent many summers visiting family there and I had never heard of the haunting.  It is above what once was the Chandelier House.  It is not the same town but will still be fun seeing the old house plus we go on up to Apex and American City.  During the depression my grandparents lived in a little cabin with their huge family in apex.  Last I knew a dentist from Denver owned it.  Going to check the rest of the days happenings.  Later..............

I love stuff about hauntings and ghostly apparitions..
Wish I had the gift to see them.. How cool would THAT be. Sometimes I "feel" a presence.. but I don';t think that is a ghost.
More likely one of my "helpers" that are invited to guide me as I do massages.
Although I did have a client who saw one of the ancient ones who come to help me on occasion. I have never seen him with my physical eyes.. but Mike did. Described him to me and said he wanted to give me a message ..
Which answered  actually the question I was mentally asking myself about a technique I was using at that very moment.
Most would call it creepy.. I just call it cool.

Let us know how the gambling went too.
Lordy I DO love those slot machines..  :)

Where is everybody tonight?  I know there is about 4 college football games tonight and at least one baseball game on TV, but that shouldn't take everybody.  After 2 full days of garage sale, I am ready for bed.  Second daughter and I just might have to let Mizzou play the rest of their game without us.  They shouldn't have started so late anyway.

We did pretty good with our sale.  The main trouble with having a garage sale is that you can't go to anyone else's.  It is good to see the people that come to mine every time.  Some of them come just to see us.  Some are old friends from way back and some just new acquaintances.  Met a couple of Forum members today.  I would say it was a good day.  So, good night, sleep tight.

But, Waldo, everything we sell is an irreplaceable treasure.  Janet and second daughter visited every yard sale in town but were very circumspect.  They didn't bring much home.  Second daughter did buy an ornamental coon at your mother's sale.

Now this is true.  My husband and second daughter would go to Dwight and Gleneva Winn's sale late on the last day and pick up most of what they hadn't sold.  They also brought home the last of some other sales.  Is it any wonder that I have so much "stuff".

Vacation is over.  The slots were kind.  The haunted hotel did not appear to us.  Not even in pictures-we found no light spots or anything unusal.  Enjoyed the mountains and the changing of the Aspens. Part of Central City is empty.  Most of the buildings going up on the right side of the road are empty.  The Wells Fargo Shop is closing out.  One of the few shops left.  The owner passed away a few weeks ago and his wife cannot handle it by herself. Sad.  A new Antigue Shop opened under the Golden Rose Hotel  with a large inventory and reasonable prices.  We gambled in Central City but Blackhawk was full.  The new highway from Idaho Springs to Central City was a beautiful drive.  A new view to the area.  I still prefer Highway 6 and the drive through the canyon.  Old habits die hard.  Central City business owners are paying for the new road hoping it would help their business.  In Blackhawk the Old Lace House still stands in Blackhawk surrounded by huge casinos.  The mountain has been cut out around the Lace House to make room for parking etc.  It looks like a huge decorated egg.  But not pretty.  The courts are to decide what to do with the house.  They will probably move it up the road where the rest of the homes have been replaced.  On the way to Central City cemetery- new condos sit to the south of the road.  Also on the new road to Idaho Spring just outside of Central City there are new condos.  My gradparents old home still stands stately in Central looking over the destruction of a little mining town.  The new owners are taking spendid care of the home.

I'll send a few photos soon.
Goodnight.

It is truly beautiful---looks and feels just like Teresa and Kjell.  The only thing that resembles the house before they moved in is.......the kitchen sink is still in the same place as is the bathtub/shower and sink and stool, the closets and the outside doors.  LOL  Other than that -- it is a total transformation.  I just hope the pictures do it justice, but I don't think it will show you the complete blending of all the colors and artistic arrangements that Teresa and Kjell have accomplished.

Teresa, I am anxious to see your pictures.  I wish I could stay up all night and work like that.  We used to do that--both of us would come home from full-time jobs, fix a meal, put the kids to bed and work until 2 or 3 A.M. and back to the job the next day.  On top of that Frank was "moonlighting" on Saturday and sometimes Sundays as a butcher in a busy grocery store.  We would work on the house and when it was done, then the yard came next--sometimes they both had to be tended to at the same time depending on the season.  Those days are gone--We work hard now, but our bodies just won't let us put in those kinda of hours.  I may need to call on your expertise when we get moved in!!!!!  Enjoy your house now that you have put in all of that labor!!!

Yes, Myrna, I understand about the slowing down.  i still have the same desire to get things done but certainly do not get everything done I plan.  Maybe I need to re-plan.  I think back to when my kids were young and how busy I was and everything I did.  I get tired thinking about it.  That must be why we are still putting in windows and still working on the floors.  More time in between work than work. We'll either get it done or won't!  Seems like I get so many more interruptions now.

Teresa & Kjell, Glad you are getting settled in your new home.  Sounds like you have well.

It is time for this one to go to bed --- I know it is early for some, but today has been a doozy.  Years past I could work from the time I got up until the wee hours of the morning -- but, I'm telling you the truth...NOT ANY MORE !! My 12 to 14 hour days are in the past.
I did have fun though -- I worked in the gatehouse booth and I just love it !!  I love to meet new people and seems that everyone that comes through and stops at my window, have a smile on their face, and are happy to just be out and about.  The time speeds by and I get to laugh and visit, and it really doesn't get much better than that.  The rangers that work out here are so very nice and helpful to all the campers and "lookers", so what I am saying is --- Working as a Camphost here at the Elk City State Park has been a pleasure this summer.
Guess i will sneak off to bed..early ?? Maybe, but we have to be at our sweet Teresa and Kjell's home at 8 in the morning, and will be enjoying our massages, that she has so graciously awarded us. It is raining right now, so that is my nite nite sounds  Wishing you all a pleasant night of restful sleep.

How embarrassing!  Due to the coverage of the San Diego County fires, we won't be getting to watch "Dancing" tonight.

It's Tuesday morning.   The fires are still "roaring."   We are fine this morning, the fires we were seeing east of us got "contained," and we're thankful for that.   Cathy called about 6:30 this morning and they've had the emergency call to evacuate, due to a big fire over by the Harrah's Cassino.   We can see the black smoke east of us, coming from that fire.  There are still a lot of evacuations going   on.   The wind just howled off and on all night here.   Matt Laur is in Rancho Bernardo for the Today Show.  There have already been 154,000 acres burned in this one fire that is affecting our area the most, over a thousand homes/structures burned, and I don't know if they even have any idea of a % of being contained.  Last night it was zero.  Our humidity remains at about 5%.  We're now being encouraged to conserve not only water, but electricity, as so many of the lines are down.  They're declaring a "transmission emergency."  We're fortunate to still have our electricity on, as there are thousands of homes w/o electricity.  We haven't been out and about at all, and probably won't be, as the air quality is to bad.  We're not to use our cell phones either, only for emergency use, as the towers are so overloaded.

Cathy's got here, they each drove a car here and now they're going back for their third car, and more things they thought about on the way to town.  Their nice old dog, Dixie, is in our garage.  She's hardly ever been "to town," so I can't tell if she's excited, or not.  But, she's a good "girl."

Well, I think the reason Marie Osmond fainted was because they had all the a/c turned off in the building because of the smoke?  Would that be right; is it filmed in an area that is affected by the smoke and fires?

I didn't actually see the faint; I finally pried the remote away from my hubby right when they were going to commercial break after she fainted (she was the first dancer).  I've never been a fan of reality-type shows, but this one is GOOD.  The only thing I hate is that America can vote for their favorites and sometimes knocks a lot of decent dancers out early because they don't have enough fan-base.  Wayne Newton held on for 3 weeks; his dancing scores were always the LOWEST, but because he has a lot of fans, the votes pulled him through.  I'm pulling for Jane Seymore (Dr. Quinn medicine woman) and Jennie Garth (from 90210).  But of course, I don't actually VOTE.   ;D

Well it is Thursday night and I am back on line.  We arrived here at Portobelo RV park in Aransas Pass, TX at 3:50 PM and it was so good to see everyone again.  We had quite a time getting set up --- so many people stopped by and welcomed us back "home".  The temp was 83 when we arrived.  This is the first time ever that we took our time coming down -- we went to Columbus KS and had some work done on our RV, and I just want to say, that K & K Camper Sales in Columbus is by far the best place to buy - sell or trade RVs, and those young men REALLY know their stuff.  They can fix any and all problems that you might have and do it quickly and are so very nice to deal with.  The owners  The Kirks' are super nice people.  Anyway, they had us ready to roll at 11:30 AM so we decided to just take off and get somewhere down the highway.  We went down the east side of Oklahoma, through the beautiful mountains - I was amazed at the beauty and size of them.  Gave our diesel truck a work out, but had no problem at all and we decided just outside of Sallisaw that maybe we needed to find a RV park to stay the night -- I got our our Trailer Life directory and  found a number for the Brushy Lake State Park -- I called and they said we could have our choice of all the parking spaces, as there was no one there at all.  We went up hill and down hill and got there and that is the most beautiful clear blue lake that we have seen for a long time.  Had a super camp site --- took a long walk, I cooked supper - watched a little TV and had a wonderful restful night.  Awakened and found there were others that chose to stay the night.  Left there and drove as far as Palestine, TX  Repeated the steps that were used the night before, with the exception that for about 90 miles THERE ARE NO CAMPGROUNDS on Highway 19.  Finally got down to Palestine  and there was ONE.  I  called and got a site  and met a wonderful couple from Indiana   Had a cocktail with them and visited for a while before we all went in to eat.  We all left this morning about the same time -- they just a while before us  and down the road about 2 hours later, we came up behind them -- we passed them, with all four of us waving like we had known one another for ever...then we didn't see them any more until we pulled off at a roadside park at LaGrange, TX  and we were sitting in our RV eating lunch and they passed by --- honking and waving.  They were on their way to spend the winter down at Brownsville, TX and we stopped here.  The world is full of wonderful people.  When we pulled into our site, we were pleasantly surprised that a friend from Lawrence, KS  was here and had mowed and trimmed our lawn.  We are completely set up -- ready to spend the next 5 months with wonderful winter time friends.  It is time for me to go to bed, Fred is already there, he was very tired after driving all this way, and then he does all the outside and I do all the inside.  Oh yes ~~~~We paid big bucks for our diesel --- any where from $3.15 to $3.40 a gallon.  It takes a strong stomach to digest those kind of prices.  I am going to call it a day ~~~~~Nite all  -- sleep well.

Jo, I'm always happy to hear that you have arrived at your destination, safe and sound!  It sounds like you had a really nice trip "south."  And, you're right, the world is full of nice people, wherever you go.

Take care, and, enjoy the winter!

Jo, glad to hear you had "happy trails" to your your winter place.  How cold does it get there at it's coldest? We had friends who went to Florida every winter too.  Everyone arrived just before Thanksgiving and the Park owner would do a big Thanksgiving dinner for everyone so they could all get together and share all the previous year's stories.  We know others who go to Arizona every winter too.  You ''snowbirds'' must know all the good places! :D :D :D

Diane, normally it doesn't get real cold --however three years ago on Christmas eve we had SNOW  !!  I was absolutely so happy, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.  I LOVE winter -- but Fred does not !!  so when it started to snow about 8:30 - I was outside happy as a lark in the spring time.  Then on  Christmas morning we woke up to 6" of the beautiful white fluff.  We have a park dinner on Thanksgiving and on Christmas -- I was the happiest person at the gathering  lol lol lol   there were grumbles "I came here to get away from this stuff"   "Are you crazy???You like this??"  on and on -- but they could not dampen my heart's prayer for snow.
It usually doesn't get much below 50's - but last year we had two hard freezes and we ran the furnace A LOT.  If everyone ever figures out that the "chill" may be coming from my talking to the winter people  I may get ejected from here.  It is in the 80's today and a nice breeze from the north east..very pleasant.  We are happy to have arrived safe and sound.  We are already hearing horror stories of some of the problems that have happened to others that arrived here this past week.  One of my friends fell land broke her hip - one of the men here had a motorcycle accident - a lady turned left in front of him..buggeedr him up pretty bad...and the park managers husband slipped and fell into the boat trailer jack and really done a number on his leg.  Another couple crippled in yesterday with a broken spring on their truck.  So, we were blessed once again.  And we give thanks every day for all the blessings we receive.
Hope all is well with you all.

Jo, glad you made it safely!  I remember the snow that year!  We were at our son's in Houston.  Our grandson had seen snow before visiting his other grandparents in Lubbock, but our granddaughter had not seen it!  It was amazing because Christmas Day at noon it was all gone and we were out in shirt sleeves.

Oh, Roma Jean, that would thrill me if you will do that.  If I had known you were that close I would have left some butterfly kisses along the trail for you.  I hope you had a wonderful trip.  We have brilliant sunshine this morning and NO FOG  yesterday you could not see very far.  I have to go to the laundry today, sometime, but I have a wonderful 4 line clothsline here right behing our RV  so laundry is fun for me without having to feed the quarter gulping dryers...the washers are bad enough.  This old tightwad likes putting quarters in SLOT MACHINES only.    :D :D :D :D :D
Be good to yourselves and have a happy day.

What a long day it's been, but FUN!  I'm down at the Nature Conservancy, Tallgrass Prairie, just north of Pawhuska, OK.  I'm helping them work their bison herd, and scanning all the ID's into our software program.  It is an easy way for them to keep track of 1600+ animals.  We worked 532 head today!  We started at 7:15 am and ended around 4:30.  We even took an hour and a half lunch break (the ladies cook wonderful meals), so you can tell the rest of the day was fast and furious.  We averaged about 49 seconds per animal.  I'll try and get some pictures taken and posted, but the lady who normally does the computer work (and I just give her guidance) was sick today, so I had to do all the computer work myself.  I was glad to have internet access this evening, as it's hard to keep up with all the forum posts if I miss too many days!

It's been a beautiful fall day.

I enjoyed watching the leaves fall this morning.
It seemed when I woke this morning there weren't any leaves on the ground,
then they all decided it was time to drop, and they just floated down.
Now my yard is covered.

Good evening to all of you,
This the end of another wonderful day.  I am starting another adventure -- although not really any different from what my days have been for the past seven months.  Fred and I have been returning to this same park for the past 14 years, but this year, before we returned, I was speaking to the manager of this park, on the telephone, and mentioned that I was working as a camp host at the Kansas state park  When we arrived she said she wanted to talk to me when we got all settled in.  So the next morning, I went to the office to see her and she asked if I would be interested in working in the office 18 hours a week ~~ so that is what I am doing this winter.  I had my first day today and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Here I am... just two months shy of 78 years of age and have gone back to work.  ::) ::)   Jeepers, I can honestly tell you, I love it !!!  I ask in my prayers every night to grant me the patience and wisdom to "be trainable"  and also ask for the patience  of those who have to train me.  It was a FUN, enlightening day.  The shocked look of those that walked in, and saw me, was such fun !! I know so many of those that return each year, it is just like "coming home".  He just keeps showing me a good time, and this "ole girl" just keeps on lovin' each and every day, that He grants me.  And by the way -- the light of my life is having a wonderful day each and every day, also.
So Fred and I say, "Sweet dreams and blessed days ahead. for each of you".   G"night

That's wonderful, Jo, that you have the opportunity to do something useful at our age.  No, I didn't mispell your.  I meant our age.   It is much more useful than jogging or running.  Maybe you aren't so old after all.

Congratulations, Jo!  I posted something for you, but I think it went into the "black hole," as it seems to be nowhere!  It is great that you can work a few hours a day.  I'll join Wilma in saying how nice it is that people "our" age are given an opportunity to continue doing what we are capable of doing.  I work a few days a month at the Escondido Chamber of Commerce office.  I prepare the Agendas for the several monthly committee meetings, then I attend the meetings and take the minutes, then type up the minutes.  I type letters, copy documents that need to be mailed out, etc.  When I quite my part-time job at the Wild Animal Park in February, I really didn't want to work anymore.  But, Harvey, (who is Cathy's husband, therefore, my son-in-law) is the CEO/President of the C of C., and his secretary is on a medical leave, and he really needed "my" help, so, I'm helping!  I feel that I am blessed, to be able to work.

I am so glad that you enjoy this job..
Sorry I didn't get you called back. It has been a VERY busy day. Started my day at 5:45 this morning. Did an hour and a half massage.. then an hour massage.. then bookwork, then housework.. then Kjell and I hauled 2 huge truck loads of BIG rocks and worked outside  finishing up the winter landscaping. Raked and burnt leaves ( again) by then it was dark so I came in cooked supper.. did dishes.. and now it is time to go to bed..as I have another big day tomorrow and Sherri and Curt will be arriving here in the afternoon to stay the night.  I think she wants a massage too.. so I better get my fanny to bed.
I hope everyone is enjoying the falling leaves and the summer like weather.
Isn't it just beautiful out?

G'night and sweet dreams..

 >:( just what do you mean by "enjoying the falling leaves"?  I'd enjoy them if they were in the yards of those they belong too instead of blowing over into my yard.  Last year I sacked, sacked and sacked more leaves and didn't seem to make a dent.  Didn't know then that you could rake them out to the ditch and burn them.

I don't like the leaves AFTER they fall... only WHILE they are fluttering down.. hahaha ;D
We raked and burnt and raked and burnt and raked some more and burnt some more then Kjell mowed and caught all the rest in the bagger ..so our yard looks so nice.
Got as much done with the yard and flower beds etc that we can do until spring time. but at least it is nice and neat looking for old man winter. We really love this house... and everyting we have done to it makes it so warm and cozy.

Well, 5 days and close to 1900 bison later, I'm home!  As always it was a fun week down at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.  They have such good people who work for them, and we always have a good time.  Yesterday morning we set a new record; 353 head.  We started at 7:30 am and ended about 11:50 am.  That put us done with the adults.  They are doing the rest of the calves this morning; probably about 300 of them.  Over all 5 days, we averaged about 49 seconds per head.  That was running them into the chute, scanning the EID tag, getting a weight, deciding if they were keepers or sellers, giving a vaccine to the keepers, putting a metal tag in the ears of the sellers, and then sending them down the alley.  They have such excellent, SAFE facilities that it's very easy on the animals and the people.  Unfortunately, since I was running the computer the whole time (and I realized I forgot my camera) I didn't get pictures this year.  These are from last year when I was there.  There was a professional photographer there this year, though, and she's going to put a website together, so I'll let you know that website when I get the information.

Yes, I enjoy a buffalo burger every once in a while, too!  I haven't tried them at Poplar, but I like going to Ted's Montana Grill and having them.  They have every kind of hamburger you can imagine... and a lot of the names for the burgers are named after Ted's ranches (they're all my customers, too).  I haven't ventured far from the burgers, but I've heard the meatloaf at Ted's is very good, too.  I also have got some buffalo and beef hotdogs from a place in Colorado that are amazing!  They almost taste like a polish sausage.

I do have some of these pictures from last year.  I'll have to dig a little deeper to see if I can find any others (I spent 2 weeks in Nebraska on bison ranches last year, too).  Notice they close-up on the head... see the yellow EID tag in the animal's left ear?  That's how we can tell who he is and what his info is.

I work for AgInfoLink (Ag-Info-Link), which is a company that does "animal traceability".  Basically, we have a software program where the eletronic (radio frequency) ear tags can get scanned to and the animal's data shows up on the screen.  The data is stored in the computer software, not on the tag.  The tag is about as big as a quarter (picture below) and has a radio frequency chip in it where the 15-digit number is stored.  Ranchers use this to help speed up paperwork on their animals.  They don't have to flip through mountains of papers on a clipboard to find the animal.

Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is part of The Nature Conservancy who has preserves across the US.  Tallgrass is down North of Pawhuska, OK.  They own almost all the land North of Pawhuska to the KS state line, West of Hwy 99.  It's the largest bison herd that TNC owns.  TNC allows for tours and even just driving around on the plains to see the buffalo, actually.  They also do a lot of research on the range, too.

Most of my customers are cattle owners, but I have a pretty large group of bison customers, too.  All of Ted Turner's bison ranches use our software, and I support them on their computers.  Most of my work is from home doing customer support over the phone, but I have the occassional trip out to help work animals, or to go out and sell more software, or to train someone new how to use the software.  Our corporate office is in Longmont, CO, but we all work from home!  We also have offices in Australia, South America, Canada, and Mexico.

In Elk County??
Hmmmmmm I think only one actually.
Brian Miller the owner and operator of our Poplar Pizza here started another one in Andover Ks.
Andover is almost to Wichita...
and the people there ( and I have talked to a few of them) LOVE the place.
They are just hooked on all the different kinds of things he serves and offers.
We are very very lucky to have one here.

The people of Coffeyville are still moaning about losing their Poplar Pizza place.  It was heavily damaged by fire nearly two years ago and Brian didn't see the benefit of rebuilding, which is understandable.

It's a great place, complete with that Buffalo, N.Y. atmosphere.

One---Poplar Pizza here in Howard.  I think they serve pizza in Longton, too and maybe Moline but Howard has the only place named Pizza.  Our Poplar Pizza opened a branch in Andover earlier this year.  Andover is about 10 miles east of Wichita and so we go through it on our way to and back.  The Poplar Pizza is on the south side of the highway.  On our way home this evening, first daughter just happened to notice what they had posted on their sign.

I was interrupted while I was typing this and Teresa got in ahead of me with some of my information but I am going to post it anyway.

Well, Thanksgiving Day is almost over and I survived.  Had 7 adults and 5 children and I didn't have to do anything but eat.  I think the commotion all day is more tiring than anything.  The older I get, the more tiring it is to have the house full of people all day.  We convinced 2 little great grandsons that I do have eyes in the back of my head.  I wonder if they will remember it.  It was a good day in spite of being so tired tonight.  How did the rest of you do?

a wonderful thanksgiving day with family, food and a lot of cleanup.  My back just simply will not bend one more time.  Those great-grandsons were a joy and played so well together, but are getting just a bit big for gr-g'ma to pick up (but I still do).  And to top it all of, was almost done eating when it hit me  ::) :-\ forgot the green-beans.  No one missed them and don't know where we'd have put em anyhow.  Sent loads of "care packages" home with everyone and still have enough turkey to boil in the leftover turkey broth for some homemade noodles.  (right now food don't even sound good).  :-\..  I read the "HOW TO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING" before the blessing and really had everyone's attention.  Some very good food for thought lest we forget just how fortunate we really are.  Hope everyone had a great a day as I did and now me wittle body says it's time for that bed.  Nite-all and aoyp.

Tomorrow is the 1st of December   here is a pre-Christmas poem
I truly wish these words were not the case of today's world.

'Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - No one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a " Holiday "
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Durbin, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Reed, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.

It's time to turn in for this Saturday night.  We have enjoyed watching the OU Sooners beat Missouri for the Big XII Championship this evening!!!!

Great job, Sooners!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here.  First daughter brought Christmas out of the closet today.  Now it is strung here and there and everywhere.  My little hand crocheted angel tree is on top of one of the TVs.  The angels are small ornaments that I bought at Batson's 35 years ago and the little doves are from the cake our children gave us on our 50th anniversary.  The other TV holds an assortment of hand crocheted angels in various stages of completion.  The completed ones are on the mantel and the dining room table is covered with angels that not yet have their wings, along with the tree top angel that I bought to replace the handmade one that I gave to first granddaughter last year because she couldn't find hers.  The angels under construction are being made by first daughter.  I am afraid my days are crocheting are limited.

We must have put the lights away in a hurry last year as they are tangled.  I thought the white balls had been lost until we found them in the baby basket that is stored in the closet.  Why is there a baby basket in my closet?  Because I can't part with it.  My mother-in-law gave it to us more than 58 years ago.  My four daughters and three of my grandchildren spent the first months of their lives in it.  Enough reason to keep it?

The tree won't be put up until the week before Christmas because of limited space.  It will have to either block a window or the computer.  Can't spare either of them for very long.  I have a plant thingy on wheels for big, heavy plants so they can be moved easily.  I will stand the tree on this so it can be moved from one place to another until time to put it away.  The only bad thing about today is the weather.  We are expecting freezing rain tonight and tomorrow.

So now it is time to say good night to all and think about bed.

For those of you not in Elk county... we are in an ice storm warning until Tuesday at midnight.  It started to rain around 1:30 or so this afternoon and it was right around freezing temp.  Since then, more rain and less temps... = freezing rain.  Hopefully the rain will subside or it will turn to snow.  Otherwise, there may be some power outages and very dangerous situations.  In January 2005, the ice storm cut out power to most rural people for at least 5 days.  Luckily, those of us in town (we were there at the time) were only in and out of power for an hour or so at a time.  But they've been through the entire rural area and replaced all the power lines and power poles since then, so hopefully they will hold up.  Not sure my internet satellite will hold up to the ice, but I can always string my hair dryer out there and defrost it off (hey, priorities here!).
Stay warm and be safe!

We had ice this morning, but it melted off this afternoon.  I'm south of I44, North of I44 is much worse I understand.  We may get another wave tomorrow night, but so far so good.  After our January storm, we are all paying very close attention here.  Hope you all stay warm and safe down there.

I just let the dog back in and saw lots and lots of mud out.
At least on the dog's feet. LOL
But, every weather report says "it isn't going to last"
I really hope the temp stays at or above freezing. I
don't want to live through another ice storm like Tulsa is having.

I will if I have to, but would rather NOT......
This morning I braved the ice and walked up to post office and home again.
It didn't look to bad, until I was to far out to go back, so almost tiptoed up to the
library and then back across the street...........almost like walking on a hockey rink.

But, I made it back home safely and here I stayed until I just have to get out...or until the
roads and sidewalks are in better shape.

Stay warm and dry all and will catch up again, tomorrow.
Hugs and God bless
;)

"For those of you not in Elk county... we are in an ice storm warning until Tuesday at midnight."

Ice is "the worst," in my opinion!  I drove from where we lived south of Longton, to Independence, for 24 years, (60 miles, round trip) and, it was always the ice that would "do us in!"  Sharon Nichols and I rode together to work, and we got caught at work too many times, when a quick ice storm or blizzard would blow in from the west.   We can laugh about it now, but several times we would have to roll down our window on the passenger side to look for the line on the side of the highway, to see if we were still where we should be, on the road!  I suppose that's one of the reasons I'm enjoying retirement, and not needing to be out during the winter storms!

We had a little more rain over the week-end, in San Diego County, and the Mountains in the area are beautifully covered with snow!  It's kind of amazing, for us now, to look out over the valleys to the east and north east, and see the Mountains snow covered!  The ski resorts are so happy, to be getting snow this early.  They really need the snow, as well as the moisture it brings.

Take care, you all!

Ashley was here with me all day as she didn't have school because of the road conditions.
We walked all over town (very gently) and did all of our errands and walked  back home where she helped me make a big pan of cinnamon rolls.  She then decided that we needed to walk up town AGAIN.. sighhhhhh...((As if a 6 yr old girl and a 54 year old woman creeping around town hanging on to one another giggling wasn't enough for the town to witness one time.. she wanted to do it again))  ::)
But..being the MeMa that I am, I said ok.. we would bundle up again.. walk to the video store and rent a video and watch it while the dough was raising the second time.
So we did. We watched "Ice Age" and she knows it by heart, but I hadn't seen it and we laughed so hard. That is a cute show. then we finished up the rolls, she helped do the dishes.. her daddy came to get her and I got ready to go to the City's Christmas party.
Got home about 9:30 and it was raining out and there was ice on the handles of things but it wasn't freezing on the street.. weird weather , that is for sure. Maybe the freezing part will not hit us too hard.
But regardless, I am ready if it does.. so? We will see what Mother Nature has decided to give us in the morning.

One of the things that seemed so weird to me when we had the ice storm in January, was that everything could be so frozen and falling to the ground, but the streets were not frozen, just wet. The little freeze we had yesterday was that way.  It always seemed to me that in the past when we had a freeze, you could barely drive or walk on the pavement.  Perhaps the global warming is coming from the inside out.  Whoa!!!! That could make for a good TV movie..

Anyway, we are very blessed here today, it is about 50 and everything has melted. Just dealing with the usual muddy, wet dogs.

We thought that was the one we had. She owns the first one.. But this one was called Meltdown . Guess we will have to look for the 2nd one.
The best part of having kids and grandkids is the fact that you can go to all the kids shows and fit right in.. LOL
And is there anything more precious and fun that hearing kids get really really tickled and laugh that hard belly laugh?
She did over this show and I laughed at the show but more at her.

Here it is nearly 9 p.m. on Tuesday night here in Sooner Land (Oklahoma City/Edmond) and our electricity has just now come back on after a couple of days with none due to the icy weather.  We are ever so THANKFUL for the power!!!!!!  Luckily we have a gas fireplace in the den for warmth in one room and a gas cooktop to cook the defrosting meat from the warming freezer, and a gas hot water tank so we could at least take hot showers.  Otherwise, we were dark and cold and not enjoying this adventure of not having TV, computers, telephones, light, heat, etc.  The power lines all across the state have really taken a hit from frozen, falling limbs, and there have been too many accidents on the roads and highways to count.  Many, many linemen from surrounding areas and states have arrived to help repair the damage.  Some forecasts are for 7-10 days until all repairs are completed.  We hope it bypasses Elk County!

I'm glad for you, that your electricity is back on!  It's at times like this that you are happy for all of your gas burning appliances!  We've been seeing the devastation that the ice storm has caused, on T. V.  Take care!

Unless it gets really cold tonight, the ice storm has bypassed Elk County.  This is what we went through a few years ago when we lost our electricity for 5 days I think.  That's when the National Guard came out and helped Elk County move broken trees.  I'm glad you have your electric back on.  I wonder...Frank and Myrna, how did you survive in the new place?

As far as the cute kids' cartoon films, I've seen them all and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. All the ones you all mentioned are really cute. I'm not sure if there is a third Ice Age film or not. Sometimes they make films that go straight to video but I'm not sure on that one. Our library has a large tape and DVD collection, I can check there.
I'm glad the ice storm missed some of you. Now it's headed our way, but I think another system is going to moderate it and we'll get some snow and mostly rain.

Yes Bonnie, I like what I have seen of cars on TV.  Haven't seen it since I got this HDTV but know it will look awesome.  As I get older, I am enjoying the kid's stuff much more again.  I'm tired or drama and trying figure things out.  Just give me some good old action films and pixar.  Still love the Hitchcock movies or anything resembling them.

We use "Netflix," and order movies all of the time.  I choose a lot of the "old" movies, as they are just so good, and there's no bad language, for the most part.  Boy, how "things" have changed!

One of my patient's gave me a three months subscription to Netflix for Christmas.  (They figured I would love it, but wouldn't do it for myself).  I just got my second one today, "Night at the Museum".  I have a feeling that I will get hooked on it.  It is so easy to do and it is such fun to come home and have a movie in the mailbox.

It's really inexpensive, considering how many moves you get to watch for the monthly rate you pay.  We get two at a time, for $13.00 a month, I think it is.  Since we seldom ever go out at night, we get the movies in the mail box, watch them, send them back, postage prepaid, and in a couple of days, we have two more movies.  So, we probably watch a minimum of 6 a week.   And, I select the movies we want to order.  I think that every movie that was ever made, is available!  We just finished watching "The Lies Men Tell," I think it was, with Kirk Douglas.  I ordered about every Christmas movie that I could find, we've really enjoyed watching them.  When I see the name of a movie I think we'd like, I come in on the computer, order the movie, and it goes to the bottom of our list, unless I click for it to be sent next, then we'll get it in a day or two.  So, it's a nice modern convenience.

I watched Night at the Museum last year in Florida with Chuck's nieces and nephews; very cute movie!  We watched Narnia the year before (I think that's when it came out?).  It was a very good movie.  It's one of those that you can see the parallel with the Bible stories... or you can just watch it for a fun movie.  Pretty intense for very small kids, though.

We have done fine.  Our utility lines are buried, but we were concerned about the supply lines.  The power has flickered off and on a few  times, but never stayed off.  Guess they might have been changing grids.  There have been areas in town that have been without power, and the rural areas are a mess.  Some friends live SE of Bartlesville and came in for a luncheon yesterday.  They said they had to dodge power poles, trees, etc.  They had gas to heat water and cook, but no heat.  We are very thankful that we had power nearly the whole time.  We didn't have the computers on much as the power flickered and it is so hard on them.

It isn't late, only 9:30, but it is cold here in south Texas.  Not as cold as it is in Elk County, but when we are supposed to have 30 degrees in the morning, that is cold here just 1 mile from the ocean.  I have to work tomorrow and I have packages to mail out, hopefully the window at the Post Office will be open, so I can get that done before I have to be at the office.
I hope y'all have have had a great day and the rest of the week will be good for you.  Stay well, and be careful out in your cold, icy weather.  Fred put my miniature rose bush in the storage shed so the little yellow roses will be warm and safe.  These cold temps are NOT what we came south to enjoy   lol

What a good night for snuggling in with the cat on my lap, the dog beside me, a big bowl of popcorn on the table and a funny movie to watch!  ...  Well, it's not a good night for much of anything, really; but I'll make the best of it just like everyone else!

Today we got the tile grouted in our kitchen backsplash.  We chose slate in a random mosaic and it looks great, but it's hard to grout when the tiles are all different sizes and thicknesses.  I did the south half of the kitchen last week and kept putting of the north half.  Our carpenter came yesterday to take final measurements on the trim work though, so my son gave me a stern look and told me I had to get the rest of it grouted before the trim goes up.  He told me last night and again this morning.  Wonder where he gets that bossiness from???

Anyhow, I got a lot of it done then started to be really worn out, so Marty helped me finish the last part.  I'll be able to give the tile a final scrub in a couple days and put sealer on it, then not have to worry about it again.  I got it all cleaned up and then scrubbed down the kitchen, so while I took a shower Marty & Clay made chili and chocolate cake.

Our son Chris called, they're having Christmas with his wife's family in Salina and told me that before 11 they had well over 3 or 4 inches of heavy snow.  How lucky for Dana's folks to have a house full of kids, grandkids and their dogs all housebound for the entire weekend!  It sounds bad, but if it were me I'd be enjoying every minute and I'll bet they are too.

Now I'm going to go get that popcorn in the pot and pour me a Pepsi.  Everyone stay safe & warm!

Thanks everyone.  We are really happy how things turned out with our kitchen too.  And Bonnie, I haven't forgotten, when I get the trim up (if?) I'll send you pictures...  Hoping it will be late this week.

Marty & I went to Wichita this morning.  The highways were really pretty messy, much worse than we expected them to be.  But on the way home this evening they were in pretty good shape.  Had a fun time looking around while we were there, but it's always a relief to be headed back home ~ a visit once in a while reminds us how much we really love living HERE.

We had a small turkey thawed out today, so had it ready in the frige and gave Clay instructions to put it in the oven after 1.  It was done and waiting for us on the stove when we got home, the house smells great!  Of course, he had to "sample" it to be sure it was acceptable.  HA!  Lester & Fifi are having a little turkey scrap this evening too, but Squirt has to wait till tomorrow when I can have her outdoors; she's a messy eater and tries to save the bones in the couch cushions for later.  Not acceptable...

We just got a call that our neice & nephew-in-law are stopping by in a little while, with their baby, Owen.  Looking forward to that too.
It's a great life!

My sister and I had a great no stress day today. We both sat here in the office and played some games on the computers ..then we cooked taco's for supper..ate and then Mark came over and he and Kjell and Sister and I played 10 pt pitch until  just awhile ago,
( about 1 in the morning.)
We drank 3 pots of Hazelnut Cappuccino coffee and ate cinnamon rolls and just had a great time.
Tomorrow Kjell is leaving for Wichita for the day.. ( He is being very secretive):-X Wonder if it has anything tro do with my Christmas present?..  ;)
Tania will be here again, after spending yesterday with her Dad, Mike Mills. I am going to give her another massage..give my sister one and then Tania is going to wax my eyebrows.( ouch)  and then they will be on their way back to Mullinville.

I am going to make chicken and noodles to take to Rob & Christina's for the Cookson Christmas tomorrow night on Christmas Eve.

We are then going to go to Derek's on Christmas day ..after I fry a huge platter of chicken gizzards and livers, fry and boil shrimp, and make ( at my girls request) my cheesy, bacon sour cream mashed potatoes.... Ashley wanted homemade tortillas stuffed with hamburger and cheese, so I am making them too.
Derek will have his smoker going with specialty cheeses and a spiral ham. He makes the best smoked cheese that there is.
Danny and Teri are bringing pies and other stuff too and Teri is making her salsa I am sure. Sandy Dunbar will be joining us this Christmas and if Mama and Daddy were here from Texas with us, it would be perfect. But I know it is a long long trip for them to make for just 2 days. .. so we will all call them on the phone and have to be satisfied with that.
Guess that is all for now...
I better get my head down..and try to get a bit of sleep.

Sweet dreams~~

Roma Jean, I'm just so impressed that you played Guitar Hero!  I've been an amateur musician all my life but I simply
don't have the dexterity to play that game. I think it might help to be 20 years old, and I can tell from your photo
that you're in that general age group (hey, a girl who drives all the way to Sedan to buy my book deserves a nice
compliment).

AOYP, heh?  I like that.

Roma, that looks like so much fun.

Music is a part of me.......and until I had the radiation therapy on my neck, I sang with all whoever sang.
Sang my way through high school.......Dad said, " if they would give you homework in music form then You
would do so well"....well what he did was tell me that I should buckle down and learn my lessons.....Nah.
I would rather sing with the choir, or to the radio, etc.

So I envy anyone who can make music. I can play a mean stereo, now' and I know good music when I hear it.
But, since I am cancer  free I will accept what is just me.  :D :D

Thanks everyone, it really is a blast.  I am definitely going to have to get my own guitar and Playstation 2.  Hoping some folks got the PS3 for Christmas and I want to sell their PS2.  One of my Grand nephew's said, "Don't get to good or we'll all have to start missing work so we can stay home and practice."  Ha, ha.  What a wonderful Christmas this was for me.  One of the best ever.

Well, I woke up this morning --- pleased as punch that I did -- and I had a good day - worked and was busy from 9 until 3 and never even took a lunch break.  Then when I got home, we freshened up a bit and went to Fulton/Rockport and met some friends that we had not seen for about 7 years...they owned a resort in Branson, Mo. on Tanneycomo Lake years ago, and we always stayed there - then when they sold it we stayed at another resort just 1 mile north of there.  Both couples became very good friends of our, and when I checked my answering maching Friday evening, we had a message that told us they were just 12 miles north of us at a RV park and invited us to come see them.  So we did that this evening - had a GREAT time, catching up on the past few years.
It really isn't late yet, but I put in quite a day , so I am getting ready for snooze land.
Rest well, everyone.

Well, the New Year's bug hit me a couple days early this year, and I was a cleaning fool yesterday.  Cleaned out my closet and my drawers.  2 big sacks of clothes that I'll take to Goodwill sometime this week (and a trash full of clothes not worth giving away).  FINALLY convinced myself that I'd never be a size 6 again...   :'(  boo hoo...  (I made myself feel better by saying that IF I do get there, all these clothes will be out of style... but then another voice kept saying, "Ha, they'll be back IN style by that time!".  That little voice got chewed out royally by the other voice... and then I went and had some biscotti.)   ;)
I still haven't had the urge to put away all the Christmas decorations, but maybe that will hit me tomorrow.  It's not too bad since all the snowflakes get to stay up (those don't come down until I feel the toasty spring sun on my face).
I hope everyone has a good, SAFE New Year's tonight!  See ya next year!

I like your picture too Tobina!

I got most of the Christmas decorations packed up and stacked in the dining room for Marty to put away later (lucky him!)  I also washed the vehicle...  I tend to do that 3 or 4 times a year whether it needs it or not  ???  Played on the computer a little too (imagine that!)

Tonight Marty & I are going to Wichita to play pool and cards with Lonnie & Ruth and some friends.  It will probably be the first New Year's Eve in several years that I stay up till midnight, hope I can make it!

I wish you all a wonderful 2008.  I have all my list of resolutions to start on in the morning. (I think I got some of them from that post a while back!)   ;D  Everyone stay safe and warm!  Happy New Year! :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR ELK COUNTY FRIENDS!!!!!!  It is 6:00pm, I already have my pj's on.  The temperature is dropping fast, the dogs are cuddled up, the Christmas lights are on and I'm here with my new TV and my laptop.  Life is good in Romaland.  Ha, ha.     A friend always has an open house tomorrow, so I won't leave the house until then.

Thanks for all the compliments, friends!  That was taken on Christmas Eve after church; we always meet at my Grandma's house and have oyster soup and get pictures taken.

Happy New Year to everyone!  I wish you all the very best in 2008!
