LIBERTY
"Just last week, I was arguing the [illegal immigration] issue with a friend. I pointed out that every other country in the world guards its borders, and that definitely includes Mexico, which protects its own southern border while violating our own on a daily basis. He said he didn't care what other countries did. He believed that America, being America, should have a welcome mat out for anyone who wants to enter. He didn't want to slam the door in the face of poor people. I told him he was a hypocrite. After all, I knew for a fact that he had locks on the windows and doors of his home. Why shouldn't poor people be allowed to enter his dwelling and set up housekeeping in his living room?" —Bert Prelutsky
You just HAD to open that door didn't you Ta Ta!~
You just had to~!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
I have such strong feelings about this subject that if I get started, I won't ever stop.
Maybe I can say this in less than 1 billion words...
I think that there are different countries for reasons...
You may visit a country..any country...coming in the right and legal way..( not with a back pack on and 17 family members trailing behind you wading across the rivers border.........
Visit our country... BUT if you are not willing to go through ALL the red tape and legal paper work to be a permanant citizen... take on our English language as the one you will speak.. abide by our laws and customs, have work so you can support yourself, and pay U.S. taxes....
Then stay the hell out!
We don't need or want any more people to have to subsidize.
The United States is literally busting at the seams. You can not over crowd the stew pot with the too many different kinds of vegetables.. after awhile.. you don't have stew.. you just have a mushy mess that isn't worth anything.
Everyone wants to come to America and do what? Do they want to be Americans and act like Americans? No!
80-90% collect food stamps, have housing, and medical cards..and who pays for it? WE DO.. and we have people who are American citizens who can't afford insurance and are living in less than desirable housing..and working full time!
We have children that are abused and hungry and old people that can't afford a/c in the summer or heat in the winter.. We have homeless people on our streets and we want to allow every other country to dump their homeless and poor on us?
I don't think so!
America IS NOT a giant welcome mat! And what really chaps my hide is that when they sneak in here illegally.. we coddle them.. They are breaking the law!~~and we give them money and food and housing and benefits and they commit crimes and we know that they are not legal citizens.. and we still coddle them, and give them more money for lawyers etc..
WHAT in the hell is wrong with this picture! And do we send them back immediately? Noooooo... we let them stay!
And they refuse to speak English.. they bash our customs.. they want their own churches and their own grocery stores etc etc etc... the list goes on and on and on.....
If they want everything that they have in their own country then why in the name of the Lord don't they just STAY in their own country!?
If anyone thinks I am heartless, their wrong. I care about people as much as anyone.. but we can NOT save the world.. and to try to save the world we are going to destroy ours...In fact we are on the way down.. We can not support everyone.. it is killing us.

Ms. T,
You should go on the Sean Hannity show. When immigration is the topic, he always asks the caller why these people should be allowed to break the law?
You'd make a great guest.
Ta Ta
That is something I don't understand. Just being an illegal immigrant is breaking the law. So why aren't they punished? If I went where I was told not to I would be charged with trespassing. And prosecuted. So why aren't illegal immigrants punished? I could rant about this for a long time, too.
I wonder if any of our legislators read this forum.

Well thank you~~
I love Fox News..and Sean Hannity and the Bill O'Reilly ( The Factor)
I just need to be on the board of the Border Patrol.. or better yet.. Put me on the Borders...
Yeahhhhh THAT would be a good job for me..

Look at this....
When Bill O'Reilly got into that heated debate with Geraldo, it made the news on Good Morning America etc.. But for all the wrong reasons...
The subject matter NEVER made it to the people from the other networks.. but the "Heated Argument" sure did.
( What is wrong with this picture?)
What the liberals on these other networks and what Geraldo ( who would like to see open borders) doesn't seem to understand is that.......
IF that Illegal Mexican had been shipped back to his own country when he had the FIRST drunk driving charge, we wouldn't have 2 dead girls.
It ISN"T about drunk driving.
It is about a person who isn't even supposed to be on our streets, or in our country.. let alone driving drunk for the 3rd time, no less..and 2 young girls being killed because of it.
THAT is what it is about.
If the border patrol and our government and the law had done their job... he wouldn't even had been here.
Hense.. no illegal.. no dead girls ...and one less drunk driver on the streets.
You are absolutely right, Ms. T. If he had been sent back the very first time he was arrested for DUI, then the fatal accident would not have happened. If he had been charged and convicted for being in the US illegally, then maybe those poor girls parents would not be grieving today. However; as long as the US does not get tough on our border, then we will continue to have these problems.
Looking at another side of immigration, the following link might be of interest. The link is to a terrific series on looking at immigration numbers as dictated by Congressional policy.

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains things better than all the balderdash you hear on TV.
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do.
I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.
I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!!
I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker.
Oh yes, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?!
Only in America....
I am an immigrant and some people think I should sympathise with the illegals--well I do not! it took 2 years to get all the paperwork and interviews taken care of so that I could come to this country legally My fiance got posted back to th US while we were jumping through all the hoops had to have a medical exam to make sure I was disease (std) free had to sign a paper to say I had never engaged in prostitution then had to sign papers so they could do a back ground check to make sure I was telling the truth had to have a mental exam to make sure I was not insane and had to take an intelligence test to see if I was smart enough to come to America it is a slow and frustrating process (and not cheap but probably cheaper than paying a coyote to get me across the border)) then after I lived here for 7 years I was able to repeat the process so I could become a citizen (also not cheap) It was worth the hassle. I have absolutly no sympathy for illegels and do not understand why they cannot go the embassy in their respective countries and do it right...then they would not have to worry about who is at their front door or INS showing up at work and seperating them from their children or any of the other stuff they are constantly wah wahing about. Yes the legal way is slow, but all the countries in the world expect immigrants to go through very similar processes so why IS the US expected to welcome all the illegals with open arms and wallets? Oh and as an after thought when I came here in 1978 and got my son enrolled in school I was told by his teacher not to read to him until I learned to pronounce words the "correct" (American) way ;) I think they should still do that :D
I hear you loud and clear MarineMom...
Kjell came here almost 3 years ago from Norway, and he had to do everything that you did.
It was sooooo S_L_O_W..
and they lost papers and even one time threatened to send him back because THEY had lost some of the millions of documents that we had sent to them... 2 times no less.
And when we sent them a 3rd time... they casually sent a letter that they had suddenly found them and they were in the processing field.. and to check back in another 3-6 months..
sighhhh.. The system is so over crowded and unorganized it is a miracle that anyone gets papers processed at all.
He was told that he would be immediately deported if he tried to board an airplane without me, and he had to buy a $1,000.00 plane ticket so that he could go to the airport in Norway.. get off the plane.. touch his feet on European soil ... get back on the plane and return to America.. where he went through tons of red tape once again... ( They wanted to make sure he wasn't going to stay here for more than 6 months at a time without leagal papers) Duhhhhh... ::)
I had to go through lots of screening myself, and more times than not..this quick temper of mine was really close to telling them how the cow ate the cabbage... but.... I was smart enough to know that it would only have made matters worse. As they don't care.. and would have slapped me with a fine and sent him packing...
Go into an immigration office and there is a room packed with people and get this~!! They all have English speaking representatives doing all the talking and negotiating for them..
It was a madhouse in there.
I say .. If you can't speak the language, then you need to go back to where they can understand you!
He just these last few months got all the papers done and he is as legal as I am now..
( Don't you dare say anything to that Ta Ta... cause you KNOW what I mean) :-X ;D
You know ... He is still paying Norway's income taxes ( a different system there) and he is paying income taxes here.... so he is more than pulling his weight. And then to have the illegals sneaking in getting everything free and the government letting them stay for free??!
You have no idea how much disgust we have for the system ...

They lost my papers several times as well both when I was trying to get here and again when I was trying to get citizenship seems to be a routine thing for them to misplace documents at INS
Got this in an e-mail and thought it deserved a spot on our illegal immigration board. I searched Snopes.com and truthorfiction.com and did not find where this was a false e-mail.
A REAL EYE OPENER
Cheap Tomatoes ...
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat,
Republican or Independent
From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen
to the news about the student protests over illegal
immigration, there are some things that you should be
aware of:
I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language
department at a large southern California high school
which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its
students average lower socioeconomic and income
levels.
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate
High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where
these students are protesting, are also Title 1
schools.
Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free
lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not
talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full
breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that
would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is
monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in
the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I estimate that well over 50% of these students are
obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or
more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day
care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls
(some as young as 13) so they can attend class without
the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters
or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT
WORK)
I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or
risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though
there was little need for anything; my budget was
already substantial. I ended up buying new computers
for the computer learning center, half of which, one
month later, have been carved with graffiti by the
appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and
grateful to have a free education in America . (OUR
TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I have had to intervene several times for young and
substitute teachers whose classes consist of many
illegal immigrant students here in the country less
then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female
teachers, calling them "Putas" whores and throwing
things that the teachers were in tears.
Free medical, free education, free food, day care
etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled
to not only be in this country but to demand rights,
privileges and entitlements?
To those who want to point out how much these illegal
immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE
their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay
less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world
of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.
Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher
medical costs, more crime, lower standards of
education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases
etc., etc, etc.
For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.
We need to wake up.
The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't
have the guts to enforce it.
Does anyone in their right mind really think they will
voluntarily leave and return?
There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens
that contribute to our country and many that I
consider my true friends. We should encourage and
accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and
legal way.
It does, however, have everything to do with culture:
A third-world culture that does not value education,
that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping
out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate,
and an American culture that has become so weak and
worried about "politically correct" that we don't have
the will to do anything about it.
If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward
this to everyone you know.
CHEAP LABOR?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage
Consumers don't want expensive produce
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs
But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap
labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such
thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and
five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour.
At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income
tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income
Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to
$3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
He qualifies for food stamps
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay)
health care
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
He requires bilingual teachers and books
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they
qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can
qualify for Medicare. All of this is at taxpayer's
expense
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance,
or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins
and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to
$30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or
$6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime,
graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people!
I don't know how many of you folks may have seen (or if you did) the lengthy article that appeared in the Ark City Traveler a few days ago, and then a very abbreviated version of that was in the Independence Reporter on Sunday, April 15, 2007 that talks about meatpacking towns preparing for raids on illegal immigrants arrests.
Since the Dec. 12 sweeps at Swift plants in six states, immigrant groups have been holding workshops, teaching undocumented workers how to prepare for their arrests by doing such things as drawing up legal documents , so someone could care for their children and handle their financial affairs.
In addition, the United Food and Commercial Workers union has printed bilingual immigration rights kit it plans to distribute nationwide to workers in the coming weeks. The kit includes practical information, legal documents and sample letters. Etc...etc.....etc...
THESE PEOPLE OUGHT TO BE ARRESTED BECAUSE THEY ARE HELPING PEOPLE BREAK THE LAW
We have churches that are aiding and abetting people breaking the law. We have chambers of commerce who want them to do it, politicians who want them to do it.
What happened to our nation of laws?????? Is this a "pick and choose?????" Are these laws worthless????
I am wondering if the Creekstone (I think that's the name of it) facility that's located near Ark City hires illegal immigrants.
I think Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of England said it best.
"America is the only county he knew of, that everyone was trying to get into instead out of."
The thing that really burns me, is that the immigrants can go to school and on to college and pay less then the people born in america. Correct me if I am wrong but I think our Great Govenor signed a bill on this a couple of years ago.
If you do not work for your citizenship, you should have to leave. You can't stay forever on a green card.
Army Mom
Interesting topic. Immigration and illegal aliens are topics that we debate within my workplace and the area where I live quite often. And, it's a topic with content almost identical to what you all have stated here today. After spending the first 44 years of my life snug-as-a-bug in Kansas, I immigrated to Canada. Insane? Possibly. Irresponsible? Maybe, in that initial moment. Happy, ABSOLUTELY! (But, the happy is due to the magical man I fell in love with and married.)
My point is...I have experienced the immigration process going north across the border. I/we filled out all the papers, paid all the fees, met all the requirements and timelines, did the obligatory waiting. After, I became a legal resident one of the first thoughts I had was "it was ALL far too easy". Okay, we could argue because of the nature of "me" and my background there was no good reason for the process to be difficult. It was still FAR TOO easy. Following that I waited the necessary 3 years and then decided in the long run it would be far easier and less bothersome to become a Canadian citizen (basically ending the every other year stream of "permanent resident" paperwork). I am still and will always keep my US Citizenship. I filled out the paperwork, paid the fees, took the test and attended the Citizenship ceremony. I left thinking "that was FAR TOO easy".
Through all of that process I had ONE face to face meeting with an immigration official regarding my application to live in Canada, and that was the day almost 7 years ago when I went to pickup my "landed immigrant/permanent residency" papers. Not once during the time period they were "processing" my application did Immigration Canada request a meeting with me and my sponsor/husband to verify any information we had provided. That's just NOT right. It's scary.
For the past six years I have worked as a civilian employee of our Regional Police. I work for the police within the Provincial criminal court system. (Regional police being somewhere between metro-police & large sheriff's department...Provincial court system being much like a state court system on steroids.) It just amazes me the number of people that go through our local court system that have been "tagged" by Immigration Canada. Meaning Immigration wants to be made aware of the OUTCOME of court proceedings. They don't deport them. Instead the accused are sent through the court system, 90% of them legal aid recipients. We, the tax payers, carry the burden. Just like in the US.
The greater Toronto area, which I guess we are part of, is a huge very diverse multi-cultural area. We have them all. From all corners of the world. Everyone from China to Serbia to the Philippines to the Caribbean to the Middle East to Somalia (and yes, Mexico) and on and on. Overall, do they conform to their new country? Do they try to blend and adjust? NOOOOoooo. We are expected to conform to them. Just like in the US.
Canadians are just UP in arms about the new border crossing requirements and issues. Canadians love to cross the border. A lot of them for daily work purposes...a lot for travel and vacationing and they are just livid that they have to have a passport. It just irritates them that suddently they have to PROVE they are Canadian citizens, that they are HERE LEGALLY. Personally, I think it's great. I think it's SMART on the part of the American government. Cuz, you know why?
It's FAR TOO EASY to get "into" Canada.

I went to college here while I still had my green card and I had to pay the same as everybody else. I did not get any special breaks at all, my scholarships were given (or taken away) according to my gpa which had to remain a 3.5. My class book and lab fees all were the same as everybody else taking the same courses. So I'm not sure that immigrants get special breaks although I have heard but do not know if it true or not that people coming here on student visa's get cut rates. people on a green card are here legally and have most but not all the same rights as a citizen the right to pay taxes for instance but not the right to vote

American Suicide??!!!!??
We know Dick Lamb as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of America's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.
Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"
"Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country."
History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnicrebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.".
Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. Make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. Make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.
Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together."
Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."
"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."
"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."
"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common Language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and eographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" --From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."
"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."
In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said,. "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book "Mexifornia." His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."
There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.'
American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."
Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path especially The American Dream.
We have let IT happen a little at a time! I refuse to press one for English, and sure enough a real live person comes on and talks to me.
I am calling a business in an ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY, WHY WOULD I EXPECT YOU TO SPEAK ANYTHING BUT ENGLISH? Submersion is the best and quickest way to learn English!
But what do we do......
print things in different languages, >:( teach English as a second language, we make it so easy not to learn ENGLISH.
Jody, Myrna volunteers at the Election Office during elections here in Midland. This is America yet they have to have a Spanish speaking person available to help voters and you have to have all of the ballots available in Spanish and English. You have to be a US citizen to vote and you have to speak/read English to pass your citizenship requirements, so why do we have to have interpreters at the polls. Simply because we are losing our country to people that do not pass citizenship requirements. The longer this goes on the bigger the voting block that will be controlled by the largest group of illegals that are entering this country. Many towns in Texas, New Mexico, Arizonia and California are 50% to 90% hispanic, and a large % of that are illegals. If these people really want to come to America to help improve it and because they love it, why don/'t they stay home and love their country and work to improve it. Americans need to demand their Congressman, Senators and President stop the entry of illegals now before we loose control of this country completely. We need to stop all illegals which come from every country in the world.
How about if our Congressmen, Senators and President were placed in the position of being replaced by an illegal immigrant just because they haven't been stopped. Would they do something about it then?
You say contact your congressmen, senators, etc?? ??? I've tried that in the past and that didn't work. >:( They tell you what you want to hear before election, then afterwards they do as they please. >:( I've tried contacting them in the past, but what I had to say fell on deaf ears. >:( This last election one person in particular did not get my vote, but so many people believe the lies that are promised, and he was voted back into office. >:( So much for my soapbox for today. :-X
How about we declare tomorrow soap box day and let everybody talk about their pet complaints?
Yessssssssssssssssss! Let's declare Friday as Elk County Soap Box Day! That should make for some interesting posting and reading.  Time for everyone to vent! Then when everyone's thru with their soapbox, this whole thread can be forwarded to the dudes (cough, cough) in Washington!!!!!
So often, we get caught up in a debate over political semantics and end up ignoring the hard-shell realities of what we're talking about. According to ImmigrationCounters.com, here are some of the realities that the politicians who support the current bill dealing with illegal aliens would airbrush out of the picture:
Number of illegal aliens in the country 20,807,645
Money wired to Mexico City since January, 2006 $22,213,001,672.00
Cost of Social Security services for illegal aliens since 1996 $397,450,739,563.00
Number of children of illegal aliens in public schools 3,958,789
Cost of illegal aliens in K-12 since 1996: $13, 965,063,431.00
Number of illegal aliens incarcerated 332,594
Cost of incarcerations since 2001 $1,398,127,429.00
Number of illegal alien fugitives 642,799
Skilled jobs taken by illegal aliens 9,872,838
Figures can trick your eyes.
Take particular note that items 2,3,5, and 7 reflect BILLION not millions of dollars -- and that item 3 exceeds one-third of a TRILLION dollars.
Can you imagine how much it will cost taxpayers if we triple the number of illegals entering this country?
The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual manner, think about whether you want the "politicians" spending your tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans . It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . . .
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?
a. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.
b. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
c. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.
Washington, D.C. ... HELLO!!! Are all your calculators broken?
A conversation between a Customer and Bank of America Bank:
The Bank: Bank of America, can I help
you?
Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my
account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.
The Bank: Why?
Customer: You're giving credit to
illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business
elsewhere.
The Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't
want to see you do that, but we can't stop you. I'll help you close the
account. What is your account number?
Customer: (gives account number)
The Bank: For security purposes and for
your protection, can you please gi ve me the last four digits of your
social security number?
Customer: No?
The Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify
your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of
who you are.
Customer: Why should I give you my
social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your
bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social
security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their
business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a
credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You
wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?
The Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.
Customer: Why not?
The Bank: Because you would have pressed
'2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling
in on the Spanish line.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
AND THE LAST STRAW IS when I got up this morning (my inner clock hasn't changed yet so it was 5:00 a.m.) poured a cup of coffee and turned on the TV for the morning show and guess what was on? HISPANIC TODAY SHOW. They were intervewing the governor of Sonora at the time. Now they need their own Today show? ::) >:(
Teddy was right then and he is still right.
And caught up in the mess are the kids.
The Nebraska teacher that ran away with her middle-school student. They were tracked down in Mexico.
She'll be extradited to face charges in Nebraska.
It appears the student is stuck in Mexico because his family are illegals.
He won't be allowed back in this country - at least that's the current news.
Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling your
neighborhood heroin dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist."
You are soooooooo right, Judy. And, Mom, don't you think that is as it should be. ??? I wonder if his family will go join him. Do you suppose that might be the reason the teacher ran away with him? Just to get him back where he belongs? Uh, probably not. The way older women are making fools of themselves over younger men. Especially in illicit circumstances. :o :o
Oh, yes, Wilma - that's as it should be. Illegal is still illegal in my book.
It's just sad when parents don't consider the effect on kids of their illegal actions.
(This is ignoring HIS running away. That's a separate issue. I was just commenting on how parents behaviors make life tough for the kids.)
We had a terrible accident a few evenings ago on our Papermill Road just outside Newark. The road has some rather signifigant curves as it leaves town. A young illegal, no license, no insurance, drunk, lost control of the BMW he had "aquired"and hit a man going to work just up the road. The BMW flipped up over the Honda, took part of it's roof off, became airborn, hit a telephone pole sideways about 8 feet off the ground and split in half, spilling out the illegal and his 2 buddies. Not a pretty sight. Both drivers and one passenger died at the scene, one illegal is still alive in critical condition. A number of families' lives have changed forever.

They said it is true..........

How it is done in "BIG D" TEXAS Parkland Memorial Hospital
Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas is a fairly famous institution and for a variety of reasons:
1. John F. Kennedy died there in 1963
2. Lee Harvey Oswald died there shortly after
3. Jack Ruby-who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, died there a few years later..by coincidence
'On the flip side, Parkland is also home to the second busiest maternity ward in the country with almost 16,000 new babies arriving each year. (That's almost 44 per day---every day)
A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants. That's 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas
According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004 but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.
The average patient in Parkland 's maternity wards is 25 years old, married and giving birth to her second child.
She is also an illegal immigrant.
By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay. OK, fine. That doesn't mean they should receive better care than everyday, middle-class American citizens. But at Parkland Hospital , they do. ' Parkland Memorial Hospital has nine prenatal clinics'.
That's right !!!! NINE.
The Dallas Morning News article followed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and pregnant with her third child---her previous two were also born at Parkland . Her first two deliveries were free and the Mexican native was grateful because it would have cost $200 to have them in Mexico This time, the hospital wants her to pay $10 per visit and $100 for the delivery but she was unsure if she could come up with the money. Not that it matters, the hospital won't turn her away. (I wonder why they even bother asking at this point.)
'How long has this been going on? What are the long-term affects?
Well, another subject of the article was born at Parkland in 1986 shortly after her mother entered the US illegally - now she is having her own child there as well. (That's right, she's technically a US citizen.)
These women receive free prenatal care including medication, nutrition, birthing classes and child care classes. They also get freebies such as car seats, bottles, diapers and formula.
Most of these things are available to American citizens as well but only for low-income applicants and even then, the red tape involved is almost insurmountable.
Because these women are illegal immigrants, they do not have to provide any sort of legitimate identification - no proof of income. An American citizen would have to provide a social security number which would reveal their annual income - an illegal immigrant need only claim to be poor and the hospital must take them at their word.
Parkland Hospital offers indigent care to Dallas County residents who earn less than $40,000 per year (They also have to prove that they did not refuse health coverage at their current job. Yeah, the 'free' care is not so easy for Americans.)
There are about 140 patients who received roughly $4 million dollars for un-reimbursed medical care. As it turns out, they did not qualify for free treatment because they resided outside of Dallas County so the hospital is going to sue them! Illegals get it all free! But U. S citizens who live outside of Dallas County get sued! How stupid is this?
As if that isn't annoying enough, the illegal immigrant patients are actually complaining about hospital staff not speaking Spanish. In this AP story, the author speaks with a woman who is upset that she had to translate comments from the hospital staff into Spanish for her husband. The doctor was trying to explain the situation to the family and the mother was forced to translate for her husband who only spoke Spanish. This was apparently a great injustice to her.
In an attempt to create a Spanish-speaking staff, Parkland Hospital is now providing incentives in the form of extra pay for applicants who speak Spanish. Additionally, medical students at the University of Texas Southwestern for which Parkland Hospital is the training facility will now have a Spanish language requirement added to their already jammed-packed curriculum. No other school in the country boasts such a ridiculous multi-semester (multi-cultural) requirement.
( Sorry for the length, but this needs wide circulation particularly to our 'employees' in Congress.)
Remember that this is only ONE hospital is Dallas , Texas . There are many more hospitals across our country that also have to deal with this.
UPDATE!!!
HOUSE PASSES IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL
Topeka, KS—The Kansas House of Representatives approved House Substitute for Senate Bill 329, the Kansas Illegal Alien Reform Act today.
Speaker Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) said Kansans across the state demanded the Legislature respond to the increasing burden of illegal aliens.
"The failure of the Federal Government to enact meaningful reform has forced us to act," Speaker Neufeld said. "Kansas welcomes those immigrants who have followed our country and state's laws to come here. However, illegal immigration has put a tremendous financial burden on our state, especially on our schools, social services, hospitals and justice systems. "
House Federal and State Affairs Chairman Rep. Arlen Siegfreid (R-Olathe) applauded the work and great debate of his committee and the House.
"We began this process with several proposed bills that seemed miles apart. With great effort and diligence, House members considered each approach carefully and crafted a bill that I believe addresses the concerns of all Kansans," Chairman Siegfreid said.
Rep. Richard Carlson (R-St. Marys) said those businesses that are found guilty of knowingly hiring illegal workers will face severe penalties including contempt of court charges and fines.
"There was much concern about what the legislation meant by businesses 'knowingly' hiring an illegal immigrant," Rep. Carlson said. "The vast majority of Kansas businesses comply with federal and state labor laws. Our goal with this legislation is to stop those few businesses who intentionally hire and abuse illegal workers – not punish those who follow the law and mistakenly hire an illegal worker."
Among the bill's other highlights:
Requires the Dept. of Labor to use E-Verify to verify all employees hired by Kansas businesses;
Establishes an employment verification training center at the Dept. of Labor;
Imposes criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly registers an illegal alien to vote;
Enhances penalties on those who use or sell False ID documents.
The House passed the measure with a 96-27 vote. A Joint Conference Committee will meet to work out the differences between the House and Senate immigration reform bills.

I received this today and thought it was good enough to pass on. (I didn't check anywhere to try to see if it was true or not - It just sounded like something that needed to be said)
ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER
This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper...................
Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!
New Immigrants
From: 'David LaBonte'
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to 'print' it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined.
Dave LaBonte (signed)
Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:
Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture.
Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan .. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussoli ni and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picki ng up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red , white and blue bowl.
And here we are in 2007 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life . I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

KEEP THIS LETTER MOVING. FOR THE WRONG THINGS TO PREVAIL THE RIGHTFUL MAJORITY NEEDS TO REMAIN COMPLACENT AND QUIET!! LET THIS NEVER HAPPEN!!
I hope this letter gets read by millions of people all across the nation!!
I hear Oklahomas anti-illegal law is workin pretty good. Think they all moved to Northwest Arkansas tho :P
Not all of them!
I had to sign on for this one. Yesterday, here in Los Angeles, thousands (and a lot of thousands) of Latino people crowded into downtown shutting down a lot of major intersections to protest treatment by the government. They were demanding fair wages, access to government programs, and recognition of undocumented workers. Last year, when they had this same Mayday protest, things got out of hand and it turned into a minor riot with the LA Police acting like riot troops. The result of that is that the entire LAPD underwent (sensitivity) training to better handle this years crowd. This year the crowd was somewhat smaller because last year many employers fired those workers who failed to show up for work in order to march in the protest. My daughter (eighth generation American) works in this area and found it hard to get to her job and to leave afterwards. How ironic is it that people who are here illegally and breaking the law by being here are openly demanding fair treatment from a government whose laws they have and are breaking. ???
Larry, you make a very valid point. Unfortunately I am concerned that we are about to put someone in the Whitehouse that gives in to the illegals, every candidate Democrat and the liberal running on the Republican ticket has made comments about giving benefits to the illegals.
Frank
I just can't keep my mouth shut on this one. I can't stand the thought of illegal aliens getting benifits that they shouldn't receive. It makes me sick. I can't understand why they should get special treatment. If anything I think that the older Americans could use some assistants. I know that when I get ready for retirement, there might not be any social secrety (spelling wrong), but I feel that this older people that are US Citizens should get more benifits. I mean come on. I work just the same as all people, well most people, and if I won't be given SS when I get older I would hope and wish that I wouldn't have to pay for the illegals to get my benefilts. It SUCKS!!!! >:( >:( >:(
hell they might as well go home anyway, all the jobs are gonna be in mexico before long anyway :P
You got that right Pam.
Pam , I think they need to go to China, that is where the work is, everything in the US is made in China.. I bet they won't march for free medical and social security in China.
Frank
If they did protest in China it sure wouldn't last very long :P Ate my last hershey bar today, not gonna buy em anymore, if I'm gonna eat imported chocolate I'll buy the good stuff from belgium :P not the mexican hersheys. I'd do the same thing no matter where they move to. They ought to stop lettin all the companies move out of the US, pretty soon we'll be importin EVERYTHING and then we will really be screwed blued and tattooed
Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use.
The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants!
That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down.....
Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the Border.
When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq .
Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military.
Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.
After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country.
He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot.
This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves.
If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo.
Problem solved.
;)
This makes me S-I-C-K!
The real cost and why we can't afford Health Care for Americans.
Hard nosed as it seems to some... I still say we HAVE GOT to close the borders.
