Marilyn (Ames) Wilkerson, age 80, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away August 26, 2023. She was born on February 21, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Lee (Chig) and Ann (Frazier) Ames.
Marilyn grew up in Moline, Kansas, graduating from Moline High School with the Class of 1961.. She later graduated from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. She married Leland Wilkerson in Howard, Kansas on July 29, 1967, and together they moved to Kansas City.
Marilyn was a member of the Valley View United Methodist Church where she was in the choir and played handbells for over 40 years. She was an avid fan of both the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs and would listen to the games on the radio. She enjoyed watching her daughters play sports and never, ever missed a game. She volunteered for her daughters' PTOs and the Rosehill Elementary libray for many years. She also belonged to various clubs over the years including bridge, Bible study, Red Hat, Gourmet Chorale, bowling and Pogo games. Marilyn loved to travel and was an excellent cook.She kept her mind sharp by reading and doing daily dictionary words and trivia. Above all, Marilyn was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, friend, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, Leland; two daughters, Michelle (Nenous) David and Nicole (Rick) Rocklin; her brother, Bill Ames; and four grandchildren, Dahlia and Ashur David and Phoebe and Miles Rocklin.
