Title: British Evacuation of New York
Post by: W. Gray on November 25, 2013, 02:44:59 PM

From LarryJ's Slice of Wry post earlier today:

"In 1783, the British evacuated New York during the American Revolution."

Most people seem surprised to learn that Washington's victory over Cornwallis at Yorktown, VA, in October 1871 did not end the fighting or the Revolutionary War.

The Treaty of Paris in September 1783 ended the war almost two years after the Yorktown victory. The British occupied New York until they went home in November 1783.
